I suppose that this is DUH-obvious, but if I were any of these guys I'd be nervous about signing with ND no matter how good I thought I was. It's not just the "competition" [these guys have to know all about Hendrix and Golson and how all sorts of people are saying that they fit the system], but the fact that the competition will have a full season or more head-start on them [NOT a level playing field]. And they probably don't want to add to that burden the addition of another stud in their own year. So even if they love the idea of playing for Kelly, they're keeping an eye on one another --- almost a Mexican stand-off. If there is anything to this dynamic, I wouldn't be surprised if we whiff entirely at QB this year --- I am probably wrong, but with our current QB structure it wouldn't be the most catastrophic thing I could imagine.
Since I am busy being wrong here, I might as well finish the cracked crystal gazing by giving one play-out: Kiel gets nervous and pops for Oklahoma. Miles gets nervous and does something similar elsewhere. Mauk thinks it over, decides that a year of red-shirting isn't terrible and verbals to ND with a plan to be the starter under Kelly his junior and senior year. THAT ought to ensure that none of the above happens.
