don't care if he's not ranked by scout.. I like him, and he is an excellent consolation prize if Marshall goes elsewhere

This says more about how good/detailed this staff is at evaluating talent. They have been very early to offer recruits, and they've beaten a lot of the powerhouses by building relationships early in the process

I absolutely agree. So far, there is not one kid from the 2011 , and the 2012 class they offered that I can say this guy is not good enough.

Just once, I would like to watch a highlight reel and instead of hearing hip hop or rap, I would like to hear something along the lines of "Rebel Rouser."

Doubt the family were ever Duane Eddy fans. Regardless of the music Walton can move. ND is his best offer so far followed by MS and UC.

This recruit is interesting to me for many reasons but one is that I've noticed Kelly is offering a "smurf-sized" blazer much more frequently than I expected. This is usually on offense, but even the occasional DB. I'm wondering what exactly this foreshadows? It MUST mean that "speed trumps size", doesn't it? Kelly must see putting blazers on the field in more than one offensive position even without "bigness". Is this running back and slot, or even RB, slot, and what we use to call flanker?? What do you guys think?? WVU got away with lots of smurf-blazers in their hey-day. And the old Detroit Lion "silver stretch" offense [a lot like the spread without any QB runs] was entirely smurfs at receiver.

See Belicheck, Bill. The Pats ran their offense this year with a bunch of undersized receivers (Welker, Branch, etc.) and backs (Woodhead, Green-Ellis) and a combination of size and speed at TE (Gronkowski, Hernandez). Kelly seems to be targeting some similar profiles. Love what he's doing.

Ok this may seem bad, but looking at his tape I don't like him. He is very very small, doesn't seem to have breakaway speed and goes down easily. Hey what do I know though.

He's got breakaway speed. He was timed in the 4.3 - 4.4 range.

Check out Riddick's measurables when he came in and compare. Add an inch and 10-15 lbs for a year of growth

Rivals HS profile of Riddick list him at 5'10" 185lbs 4.4 forty.

IDK his game day speed doesn't look 4.3-4.4 to me. He looks more quick than fast. But, again what do I know.

I actually love his film. He is definitely tiny, but looks extremely fast to me, and cuts on a dime. The thing I like about him most though is that despite his small stature, he does very little dancing and rarely runs east-west. He gets the ball and immediately heads down hill. Even on the toss sweeps and stretch plays, he gets the ball, looks for a seam and immediately hits it hard. He definitely needs some strength work in his lower half, but that is something that he can work on and will also naturally improve with his physical maturation.

Great analysis. I cannot agree more. Cut that ball up and bounce out. Bouncing in against the grain is a great way for little guys to be clobbered...

I hope we land him. Crazy quick and great overall speed. Would be a great slot/RB hybrid.

The only thing that concerns me about size w/ a RB is their ability to block when needed. I can't stand when our RBs either miss the blitz or get mowed over and our QB gets creamed. If he can gain some strength (which I have no doubt he will) and if he can block for our QB when needed, then I'm on board with this kid because from the video, IMO, he looks great.

Looks like he might be like the other Memphis duo (Kimbrow and Redmond) in that he is a packaged deal with his teammate Sheldon Dawson:

The event was dominated by Memphis natives and the top performance came from Sheldon Dawson, a prospect casual recruiting followers may not know. That anonymity should vanish following Saturday’s camp.

Dawson’s recruitment is unique because he was a backup tailback to teammate Jaylen Walton during his junior year. Even as the second option, Dawson was able to rush for over 1,000 yards. While several schools are recruiting Dawson as a running back, he also started on the defensive side of the ball at cornerback. That is where he worked under the watch of Ole Miss coaches and that is where he asserted himself as arguably the day’s top performer.

From the start of defensive back drill work, Dawson emerged as a fluid, quick and explosive athlete and with good size, his upside revealed itself immediately. However, when the drills moved to 1on1s, Dawson really stole the show. He dominated in a number of ways. At times, he wouldn’t let receivers off the line of scrimmage with a physical jam. Other reps he showed recovery speed and ball skills. He was a constant competitor and barely lost a rep all day.

The performance was so impressive that Dawson stated a strong case as the top player in the state of Tennessee. His film is impressive and the complete package he showed on Saturday is impossible to ignore.

Though his recruitment hasn’t had the fanfare of others in the southeast, Dawson is hardly anonymous to college coaches. Prior to the camp, Dawson reported 15 offers including the likes of Arkansas, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, North Carolina and Purdue. He also claimed offers from Ole Miss and Cincinnati and listed those two programs as co-leaders.

Dawson’s teammate, 2,000 yard rusher Jaylen Walton was also in attendance with Dawson and had a good day as well. With the two hopeful to play together at the next level, don’t be surprised if the pair leaves Oxford as Rebel commits. Their performances have certainly given Houston Nutt’s staff plenty of motivation to encourage a decision.

According to what I've read, Dawson is best at corner with excellent jamming and recovery skills. This is despite the fact that his yards per carry were 20+.{In his back-up role to Walton}

One wonders if ND can offer these guys as a package. We do have limited scholarships. [now that there are already four DBs in acceptance]. Arkansas offered FOUR guys from this same team, I believe. That included Dawson, but NOT Walton. Besides being confusing, this would seem to indicate that Arkansas doesn't view Walton and Dawson as a "package".

This whole deal is pretty muddy to me as to what's going on here. I suppose that the simplest interpretation is that we REALLY would like to get RB recruiting off the ground, found a "sleeper", and offered without regard to alleged "packages".
