I think yesterday's game should have shut up veryone saying that we don't need Floyd to be a great team. We lack that go-to wide out, and really missed MF in the worst way.

MF would not have played more than a series or two anyway.

We can't judge the qb's based on the spring game. Do you guys have short memories or something? Last year Nate Montana and Rees looked far better than Crist in the spring game (statswise and overall poise). Yet in the fall, Crist was clearly number 1 and much better than Montana and Rees. The backups were garbage compared to Crist, and we all saw that firsthand against Michigan.

my thoughts LYNCH is a beast.... messed the offense up almost every snap we need some number 19 jerseys!!!!!

so really i couldn't judge the QBs that well.. i can say this OPTION plays like i said as soon as we signed golson the kid is the future QB not this yrnext three are his and, hendrix also they will be great QBs at ND in the future yrs..

jonas grey looked so slow tho i like the guy, but didn' look well..
the rain really messed up the recievers felt like we should have had at lest 3 more touchdown passes..

i want to see arron lynch and manti lined up behind him.. that will be intimidating

The guy's name that I'm not hearing much here, but whom Kelly liked, is Alex Welch. Kelly even said in the post-game that they'll be able to play two effective tight ends in a set, and named Eifert and Welch while doing so.

Welch played really well. Seems to have good hands and a good feel of when to sit in the zone.

Another player I thought played well who no one is mentioning is Dan Fox. He is a real solid player.

Welch played excellently. Solid pass catcher with great hands.

Fox was also great. Stayed stride for stride with Wood on a checkdown route and dumped him short of the first.

The Eifert-Welch pass-receiving tandem not only gives us depth, but also gives Kelly real offensive array options. I don't believe that he feels the same way about Ragone for some reason, except on a run-threat situation for blocking.

Dan Fox MIGHT turn out to be even more important. Diaco seems to be clearly not confident that Carlo is the man next to Manti, and is looking for a "Brian Smith"-type of ILB. If it turns out not to be Carlo, and Moore is not quite there either, it could be Fox.

I, despite this being just intrasquad, and despite a lot of walk-ons getting schooled by the big talents here and there, was very thrilled by what you guys reported and then was available on the replay videos. I saw lots of QB talent, lots of emerging WR talent, Lynch and Nix beyond expectations even against our big boys in the O-Line [which I think is the solidest thing about our O], Spond and Shembo ready to heal our biggest question-mark other than QB, a good-looking Wood at RB, another hopeful Wood at CB, Welch, etc etc etc. I am really optimistic about these guys who seem to jump in quality every moment.

Clearly. He called Carlo a liability earlier this spring. Which is kind of sad, since I like Carlo and thought he had a solid season last year.

Isn't the rap on Carlo that he hits like a truck but covers like one too?

Didn't Rees throw like 2 passes in last year's spring game?

As Old Man Mike said, it looks like Lo Wood is going to be able to play some good ball for us too. At a position of need, no less. Kelly didn't take it easy on Wood, throwing a lot of complicated reads at him. I didn't see Wood miss any of them either. The high-low Kelly threw at him is a very difficult read for even veteran corners. Wood correctly sat low and got the pick. It didn't look all that great of a play, but as any of the coaches on here will attest, he made the correct decision on a very difficult coverage.

Our Dime package should be straight...Gray, Blanton, Wood, Jackson, possibly Slaughter/Motta and McCarthy. With the incoming freshmen we could build some depth.

Woolybugs...

Its not that i disagree with you, but..well maybe I do.

A three level flood pattern, for a CB is not challenging. Its on the simple side of things, as far as I am concerned.

Lo is not responsible for the flat player in that scheme. The OLB, I believe it was Spond, has to buzz the flat and get underneath that route.

Lo is reading receivers 1-2, with almost a deep quarter responsibility. He made the correct play, was out of position for a few moments, but recovered in time on a "poorly" thrown ball.

I would give more credit to the OLB, for recognizing pass, and hustling out to the flats .

Missing on the previous post about the "dime": Harrison Smith.

The dime will probably be Smith, Gray, Blanton, Motta, Slaughter, and Wood. But McCarthy is still in that mix, as is Jackson, and whoever steps up from the rooks.
