Go n-ithe an cat thú is go n-ithe an diabhal an cat<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

is an Irish curse meaning, "May a cat eat you and the devil eat the cat."

It's a round about way of saying "Go to hell"

An apt message in Gaelic today (and hopefully for this coming season):

Happy St. Pat's to all!

Go Irish!

Another year, another St. Patrick's day, another "Happy Happy" and yet another "Enjoy and stay safe."

I'll be doing my usual (pretty much a 20 year tradition at this point) by having dinner at Curran's, a family (Irish) owned restaurant since 1948, with my son and a friend since they were four.

They serve the "traditional" corned beef and cabbage dinner. Corned beef is by no means an Irish tradition, though it's been adopted as an Irish-American fallacy for the day. I'm heartened by the fact that the family is well aware that corned beef is a New York City construct for St. Paddy's Day.

A pleasant twist is that the restaurant now has a liquor license so I can have a Guinness and my son and his buddy are old enough to join me.

Even better is that the friend has offered to pay ... after all these years.

It's also my daughter's second birthday! She held out until 0012 on the morning of St. Patrick's Day for her old man. How sweet of her!

Happy birthday to mgriff's daughter--who is she taking in the mock draft?

and Happy St. Patrick's day to all.

What are everyone's plans?

I am taking a half day and a couple co-workers are coming to my place to watch the games and then will prob walk down to the bar scene in between games. My friend has some ridiculous outfit he is wearing that he wore to Irish Weekend in Wildwood.

I am taking a half day to watch basketball, not for St. Patrick's day (that's just a bonus)--so im torn-- do I go down to the bar early to beat the crowd in order to secure a seat to watch the games but risk blowing alot of money, or hang at my place first with 2-3 cases of beer and then go out?

Usually I'm at a local Irish establishment at 10am to kick off the festivities and drink til I fall down. This year however, since the neww addition of my daughter we will be having a bunch of friends over for dinner and beer. Happy St. Paddy's to all of my friends here on IE Sláinte!

Well, my day was spoiled by my getting my version of the flu. A whole lot of belching and farting goin' on. I'm not sure I could keep a bowl of chicken soup down much less corned beef, cabbage and potatoes. I'll give Guinness a try, through.

My son, bless his red-headed heart, stopped by to check on me and give me a St. Patrick's day hug.

Oh, and to make matters worse, it's 52 degrees and sunny in Minneapolis (Yahoo!) right now. 'Twould be a fine day to wait outdoors for a table at my usual St. Patrick's Day restaurant.

Be careful out there.

dshans: Neutered just pm'd me to say that belching and farting was normal for you. Happy St. Paddy's anyway [They're NEVER going to get that PADDY'S vs patty's thing right]. Peace.

Muchas gracias, viejo hombre Miguel. For the "Happy St. Paddy's Day" and "Peace."

I fear that we'll go to our respective graves with far too many not heeding our clarion call in regard to the PADDY vs patty issue.

As to my bodily functions or misfuctions, Kneutered don't know Jack! [I'd use my name, as in "He don't know ****," but the filter machine would undoubtedly kick in.]

Paddycake, Paddycake, baker’s man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Roll it, pat it, mark it with a B,
Put it in the oven for baby and me.

See, Johnny, see how easy it can be ... even a cloven-hoofed beastie gets it!

May the wind at your back
Not be the result
Of the corn beef and cabbage
You had for lunch!
