Wake me up when some offensive playmakers commit

??????

Maybe my sarcasm meter is broken, but you sound like a 12 year-old kid when you say that. You win on the lines, both defensive and offensive - ask Bama and Auburn. (Of course, a stud QB helps!) You keep stockpiling these types of players along with the Lynch's and the Tuitt's and you're gonna be putting some big time W's on the board. If you don't know this, we're sure as hell lucky that Kelly knows this...

While I realize that depth along the offensive line is important, they've signed O-linemen in the past who haven't contributed yet. Yes, it is important toward the long-term success of the program, that just doesn't get me as excited as bringing in a RB/WR that can make plays.

As a RB in high school, I played behind lines where I outweighed 2 our of the 5 OL. Those were the cards I was dealt but it was still on me to make something happen whenever I got the ball in my hands. All I'm saying is that our schedule in pretty tough in 2012, we're probably not going to be able to bring any OL in this class that can help us win any games then but maybe Kelly & company could bring in some offensive skill players that can contribute during the 2012 season and help ND get some Ws.

You're being ridiculous by expecting freshman to contribute. In 2012, we'll have Theo Riddick, Cierre Wood, Cam Roberson, Tyler Eifert, TJ Jones, GAIII, Davaris Daniels, and others who will already have been in the program for at least a year. If you don't realize, we're lacking depth on the offensive line...and you can't get away with it like you can at high school (you're comparing apples to kangaroos).

It doesn't have to get you excited; that means nothing. This is a recruit's thread, and family's of recruits and the recruits themselves read these threads. And it's an a-hole move and disingenuous at best to write on a recruit's thread that his possible commitment bores you. What purpose did your comment serve? Do you think that his family members that could very well be reading this thread appreciated that comment?

As for 2012, again, thank God Kelly, whom you trust, doesn't think the way you do. Yes, the schedule is beyond brutal, but we still need these big uglies to get reps in practice and be prepared for 2013 and beyond. I'm glad that you had success as a RB behind a bad line, but in college, it doesn't matter how great you are if your line can't block. Just ask LaMichael James how it felt to go against Farley from Auburn.

Anyway, bottom line is, we NEED to keep getting kids like this, and if you don't have something nice to say about a recruit on his thread, better it be left unsaid. They're reading, trust me...

What do you guys think our odds are with him? I read a few posts back that he is also very high on Wisconsin. That worries me a bit because Wisconsin always seems to have excellent Offensive Lines. I'd love to secure a top notch O-Line commitment this early and Voltz certainly fits that bill!!!

Northwestern was his childhood favorite, he just visited there with his teammates this past weekend I believe, and he invited the NW Rivals mod to the press conference. So IMO it's safe to say that Northwestern is the team to beat. But in recruiting, you never know...

Fitzgerald is building a pretty solid program at Northwestern. Nothing elite, but solid 7-8 win seasons annually.

Don't know if they have any inside information, but I hope they are right. It does look like NW, but hope I'm wrong:

I seem to get more excited when we get big time recruits for the line then playmakers. Because its all about the lines. I'll say it again it's all about the lines. Ian Williams did a great job taking on blockers....who benefited from that...Te'o. If Ian was second class, they would have blockers coming after Te'o because one blocker could handle the NG. Likewise for OL. Big/fast talented lineman know how to play and open the holes for RB or stand their ground for the QB to make a throw.

Also I'm not speaking for recruits/playmakers out there but if two teams are recruiting me and I see they have some of the best lineman in the country compared to the other school who may have one...i think i will take the team with the better line because that will make me better...or look better because we all know lineman do all the work (lineman speaking).

Example: we didn't get Savon Huggins but we got Cam McDaniel who recruiters say isn't as good. Put Cam behind a great line and he will look like a number one recruit.

I still want the playmakers for sure but IMO the lines are what matter first and foremost.

Come to ND big guy we need you...I'm a long-term outlook guy..in the coming years we will be happy he did.
One last time: It's all about the lines

No RB will be making plays without a solid offensive line. In college it's right next to impossible for a good runningback to make a bad line look good. However, a great line makes bad runningbacks look good on a weekly basis around the country. Also keep in mind that great highschool runningbacks want to run behind great college offensive lines. Ask Savon Huggins. He actually told Greg Schiano at Rutgers if he didn't find some better recruits on the offensive line, that they could "lose" him. Talented runningbacks pay attention to what college offensive lines look like. Take this as another example: Tee Shepard and Ronald Darby have both talked about ND's defensive line class from last year and how intrigued they are to play behind that line. It all starts up front on both sides of the football.

Voltz would be a huge pick up for this team. However, as NDinLA already pointed out, Northwestern looks to be the heavy favorite. I think ND stands behind NW and Wisconsin with this stud. If that's the case, I hope Kelly and the staff are all over Destafano.

Wisconsin has to be attractive to any offensive lineman with their history with All-Big Ten linemen and NFL linemen. I'd definitely consider there if I were in his shoes.

Of course the correct choice is Notre Dame.

My sister goes to NU, and there's just very little excitement for football there.

If the kid has had his heart set on their since childhood, though, that wouldn't matter much. Just a lot of smoke favoring NW right now (i.e. Scout mod being invited to the announcement, he was just there this weekend with teammates, and it was his team growing up). Again, hope it's not, but if he chooses NW I will whole heartedly wish him the best.

Jason is echoing what I've heard as well.

Huge pull for NW if it works out.

Come on bro. Anyone who has watched football long enough knows the big guys are key. ND has been pushed around for many years on the lines even with good playmakers and it lead to defeat most of the time. I'll be double excited for you but it doesn't look promising we'll land this kid.

Wisconsin - constantly pounding the ball, produces quality o-linemen, they love their football there.

Northwestern - childhood favorite, very good and energetic coach, outstanding education.

Notre Dame - we all know why ND is a great choice.

I can't fault the kid for going to any of these schools. It's almost assuredly not going to be ND, but still, I wish the kid luck...
