With the 9th pick in the draft, the Dallas Cowboys select, Prince Amukamara CB (Nebraska).

Dallas needs help in the secondary, Prince Amukamara is still on the board at nine, you have to think that he's going here. I'll leave you with the analysis of Mel Kiper. I chose to use his because of his impeccable hair. "But because the mock draft can't account for draft board trades, if the draft played out this way with the picks ahead of them, the Cowboys could do a lot worse than to grab the best pure technician at the corner position. Amukamara should transition quickly, and Terence Newman isn't getting any younger."

Irish Lax is on the clock.
Yep. That's the pic i would have made them mgriff. No surprise good job.

Well that makes this pick easy for me. Hope MMG, IM3 and all other Skins fans approve.

With the #10 pick the Washington Redskins select Julio Jones - WR - Alabama.

Julio is just too good to pass up at this pick with Amukamara off the board. Redskins have big needs at QB, RB, WR and DB if they don't resign Rogers (which they won't). With Gabbert, Newton, Peterson and Amukamara all taken now... it is simply common sense to grab a big play WR like AJ Green or Julio Jones... and AJ is gone. Julio has the ability to play from day 1 and give the Skins two big play threats in him and Armstrong. With a good deep ball thrower like Rex Grossman (can't believe I'm typing that...) the Redskins might actually have a very solid passing attack this year if the OL plays well enough.

A guy with Julio's skills is a pretty big steal at #10... but WRs often turn out to be busts so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Interesting pick, and not a bad one by any means. Julio looks the real deal and with his combine results, arguably has more upside.

He could be a steal at that spot but I wouldn't mind them grabbing someone who could play opposite of Orakpo so he can't get double teamed every play. I know the comparison isn't fair but I keep thinking of Devin Thomas & Malcolm Kelly. I realize that both were taken in the 2nd round but they were projected by many as 1st rounders. I'll be interested in seeing what Jones can do in terms of pro days and private team workouts with his foot. If they do go with Jones then I hope that they address the 3-4 defense in the 2nd round.

By my count, that makes 6 guys that've been drafted that will take a pay cut to go pro. Oh the $EC.

Nicely done Lax. I like that pick with what is left on the board. I would really like to see them with Von Miller or one of the big play wide recievers like Julio or AJ. This is Santana's last year as well.

Lax- Great pick for our Skins. We need help at the skill positions, and since both Cam and Gabbert were off the board....

With the 11th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select: Jimmy Smith, CB Colorado

I know, it's McShay's pick. But it fits. Defense, Defense, Defense. It would've been temptiing had Jones still been around, but now that he's gone, they can address WR in the next rounds. And with Pat Peterson and Prince off the board Smith is the next best CB available at a position that the Texans so desperately need help at (pass D was worst in the NFL). I would go safety here, but it's really not a strong year for the centerfielder. And my OLB pick (Akeem Ayers) has had an awful combine. Smith is big, 6'2 211, has experience (a senior, learning curve should be short) and a great cover corner. Should fit nicely in Wade's new system. Lord knows we have lots of holes on that defense, this is just a band aid.

I honestly think they trade up to steal Prince. But that's another story.

10 of 11 of our top picks have been SEC and Big 12. Three CBs off the board already.

With the 12th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select: Cameron Jordan, DE California

With Ray Edwards gone, Minnesota will need a DE to start opposite of Jared Allen. More of a run stopper than a pass rusher, Jordan will anchor the left end while transferring to Minnesota's 4-3 base defense. Received All-American honorable mentions from Pro Football Weekly. Played in 50 of 51 possible games in his career at California. Jordan is a Viking legacy. His father, Steve Jordan, played for 13 seasons and made 6 pro bowls. Minnesota could go multiple routes because of their many needs. Expect them to trade down.

Agreed. This is taking forever.

There are a few people signed up to make picks that only come onto the board once or twice a week. I haven't been here for too long, but I check the board out on a daily basis. Some of these guys probably shouldn't have signed up. The guy whose pick it is right now hasn't been on in a week and has posted less than 50 times in a year and a half.

It hasn't even been 24 hours since the last pick...He's got until this evening before I make a consensus pick for him. We had trouble filling up hence my acceptance of everyone. If you note the first post in this thread, I asked only regulars to participate, but I can't really tell someone no if they want in based on intuition alone. Expecting only people who log on every hour is a bit unreasonable.

This is rediculous:

Reports are true -- it's a blast from the past. One hour ago, former Giants RB Tiki Barber filed papers to come out of retirement.

I get that. Its not your fault. I was just offering an explanation for why it is creeping along. On one hand, we shouldn't be in a hurry because we have over a month until the draft. On the other hand, when you're waiting to pick and its moving along nicely, then it gets stuck on somebody it seems like it is taking forever.

If we have similar problems with the 15th pick, we'll know we are in for a long draft*.

With the 13th overall pic in the 2011 NFL draft the Dtroit Lions select OT Anthony Castonza of Boston College!!
they seem to have needs there with free agency looming and injuries! my thing is keep the gun slinger on his feet and see what he can do(Stafford)
A former prep tight end, Castonzo surprised many with his ability to earn the starting right tackle spot, protecting quarterback Matt Ryan, as a 260-pound true freshman in 2007.

Poorly suited for the right side against power defensive ends, Castonzo was moved to left tackle in 2008 and started every game in his final three seasons at Boston College, earning All-ACC honors after each of his final three seasons.

Castonzo's long frame, balance and quick feet in pass protection are certain to attract attention from scouts looking for the next great BC offensive linemen. Scouts would like to see him continue to get bigger and stronger at the point of attack. However, the gains he's made over the past three years are impressive and Castonzo's steady improvement his senior season could be enough to warrant a first-round selection
per some site:)

Good pick, they have to keep Stafford clean and then you have Calvin. No brainer.

I'm asking for a replacement to pick for dboe right now. I understand everyone wants to get on with the draft, but please don't ask how long in the thread, as it's starting to become a trend. If you honestly are having withdrawals waiting for the next pick, first, you should get help, and second, you can send me a pm if it's been more than 24 hours since the last pick.

With that, I need a replacement for dboe as I have the next pick and I don't want to pick twice in a row. Some of you shaking with anticipation will undoubtedly become jealous with the amount of picks I'm getting, and do you best to start a neg rep Griff campaign here on the site. So, I'm going to offer this pick up to the first person who PMs me.
