With the 4th overall pick in the 2011 irish Envy NFL Mock Draft the Cincinati Bengals select.....

Cam Newton, Quarterback, Auburn- The fact that Carson Palmer would rather retire than play another football game as a Bengal forced my hand in this decision.

My reason for going with Cam Newton over other quarterbacks in the draft is based on raw talent and potential. The fact that no quarterback has come out of that system in Missouri and been successful, scared me away from Blaine Gabbert. I've never been all that high on Gabbert. Ryan Mallett may be the most physically ready for the NFL, but in my opinion he is not a good leader. Questions of drug use and accusations of him being a poor team mate took Mallett out of the equation for me.

Cam Newton seemed like a safe choice. He has been a winner at every level and I can't punish him for accusations that seem to be more circled around his father at this point. His upside made him a clear choice for the number four pick in the draft.

Bengals won't draft Cam Newton. I'd boycott the season if they did. From what I hear we didn't really like him all that much. I think the Bengals go best player available at 4 sign a FA QB and draft a QB in the second round. Ponder possibly. Cam Newton won't be the pick at 4 if it is a QB it will be Gabbert but its the Bengals and they wouldn't surprise me if they did take Newton, which is why this isn't so far fetched.

I'm not thrilled with Cam Newton, but it's not so far fetched for the Bengals to draft him. I'd like to think the Bengals wouldn't be dumb enough to do that, but it's the NFL, and these front office's make a ton of mistakes around draft time. I don't have any problem with your pick though, Irish Man3, it's a mock draft.

With the 5th pick overall, the AZ Cardinals select Von Miller. Obviously, they have a problem at the QB position but I don't see a "sure thing" QB on the board. The Cardinals recently released Joey Porter, Miller is a beast who will contribute immediately to a team that desperately needs a stronger pass rush. He ran a 4.46 40 at the combine along with a 37" vertical leap. He's already drawing comparisons to Demarcus Ware while being a high character kid as well.

Awesome Pick

Von Miller is a monster and showed up at the combine and dominated.

Great pick and much needed in the desert. No brainer for the Cardinals in my estimation.

With the 6th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select AJ Green, WR Georgia. The Browns' biggest need right now is a defensive pass rusher. I could have easily gone with Da'Quan Bowers here, but Green is a special talent that does not come around every draft. The Browns have the worst wide receiving corps in football and Green will give Colt McCoy a much needed weapon. The Browns will certainly have to go defensive in the second and third rounds, but for right now they get their play maker on offense. His sure hands and good rout running ability will help with the transition to the West Coast Offense.

I like the A.J. Green pick and I think you have more options in later rounds to help out the defense. Once you get past Green and Jones, the wide receivers fall off substantially, in my opinion.

With the 7th pick in the 2011 Irish Envy NFL Mock Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select....Da'Quan Bowers, DE Clemson

I mean possibly the top prospect in the draft still available at number 7, how could I not pick him. ESPN has him ranked as the # 1 prospect. The 49ers need D-line, outside linebacker, corner and quarter back help. Von Miller was off the board. Prince Amukamara was on the board and I could have taken him, but Bowers upside and his ability to get to the QB was to much to pass up. Also, could have gone with Gabbert, but with Harbough we will give Alex Smith one more year. Possibly to keep the seat warm for next year with Luck! If AJ Green was still on the board I would have grabbed him to pair with Crabtree. Again though I think getting Bowers at #7 is the steal of this draft so far.

I was wondering how far he was going to fall! I was shocked he made it this far, but there is usually one every year, although I can't imagine it being Bowers!

Can't believe Bowers to #7. Two picks I would LOVE the 'skins to get are still on the board.

Yeah but I think a lot of teams can benefit from the amount of depth at the DE and DT positions this season. There are a few guys that in a normal year would probably be taken in the late 1st early second round that will fall into the 3rd round because of the amount of depth at those positions this season. Patrick Peterson is the best player in the draft and should go to Carolina #1 overall, mainly because of his versatility.

That's why I liked taking A.J. Green because there will be opportunities to get quality talent at better value in later rounds

Peterson is definitely the best player in the draft.

With the 8th pick, the titans select Blaine Gabbert

Blaine Gabbert was just much to talented to pass on. The titans immediately fix the hole they had at quarterback with blaine being the most proven NFL ready quarterback to come out of this draft. He has arm strength and accuracy and has decent speed for outside the pocket.

I agree. AJ Green and Julio Jones are obviously a head of other receivers but at the DE and DT positions there is value just about everywhere. DE and DT is loaded this year especially DE.

If AJ Green was still there at 7 I would have taken him also, but he got picked one pick before me. I would have spent my second round pick on the D-line, but at #7 at a position of need and the best player on the board I had to take him.

Goodness. You guys are some SERIOUS football fans, or recruiters in disguise. Heck, my thought today was "should I buy toilet paper at the 99 cent store or at the Dollar store. Geez... Well, I didn't have a dollar, so I didn't poop today.

He's been on the clock for 28 hours. I'll give him until tonight. My contingency plan is to look at all the major mock draft sites and take the most popular pick. Give it until tonight gents.

If julio jones doesn't get taken soon i would be pretty surprised.....i honestly considered him with my pick but the fact the titans need a QB so bad kept me from pulling the trigger

It's 2156 Alaska time. When I wake up in the morning, around 0700-0800 Alaska time, if Wyvern hasn't made his pick, I'll make the consensus pick for him so we can move along with the mock draft.

With the 9th pick in the draft, the Dallas Cowboys select, Prince Amukamara CB (Nebraska).

Dallas needs help in the secondary, Prince Amukamara is still on the board at nine, you have to think that he's going here. I'll leave you with the analysis of Mel Kiper. I chose to use his because of his impeccable hair. "But because the mock draft can't account for draft board trades, if the draft played out this way with the picks ahead of them, the Cowboys could do a lot worse than to grab the best pure technician at the corner position. Amukamara should transition quickly, and Terence Newman isn't getting any younger."
