Ohh come on guys, lets be honest montana wont crack the depth chart and i understand respecting him because he made a commitment to notre dame but whats true is true....he wont crack the depth chart and his mom and sister and pretty easy on the eyes. Its not if they said some wrong like i hope he dies

This has nothing to do with being honest about whether he'll play or not. I'm the one who started the thread wondering why on earth he got a scholarship in the first place. I don't think any of us will disagree that he won't have much playing time.

I just think its disrespectful to him and his family to say things like "the greatest thing we'll miss is his hot mom".
I would hope that you all could handle yourselves in a better manner. I don't think thats too much to ask.
If I was a player/players parent/players friend and I read something like that I"d be extremely insulted and offended.

I think Old Man Mike said it best. Recall the kid from Rudy who played for Notre Dame always in the shadow of his father. It must be difficult to be Joe Montana's son (especially if you're trying to excel at your father's sports at your father's position). The kid did his best and put in a lot of hard work.

Also, let's lay off on the mom/sister comments. I knew his sister during college and she's a great girl. Even if the comments were meant as 'compliments' they are still disrespectful to the family.

Apologies.

You could tell all that from his facial expression but everyone else was "reading" too much into him being a legacy? Why don't we stop the speculation of whether or not he "looks" like he wasn't enjoying himself and he had an ego because of his facial expression on the sideline?

I think it's very inappropriate and premature to be counting our scholarship right now. Nate was the backup at one point last year, and a very good kid that works hard. I personally like him, and don't mind giving him a scholarship in that situation and letting him finish out his career at Notre Dame.

Yeah ummm...we are here to speculate. Lighten up, it's not like he suffered a career ending injury and is having his scholarship taken away from him.

My opinion was that nearly EVERYONE assumed he would just ride out his time at ND and be happy to never see the field again because he was a member of the Irish. I kind of thought the opposite, that he didn't look particularly happy last year, seemed a lot more aloof and less excited out of the "Red Hat Crew." Plus, he's already transferred in and out and to me it seems more likely that he would leave again, in comparison to someone like Massa who LOVES Notre Dame.

Not to say that Montana doesn't love ND, but he's already left once to get some PT at a Community College...it just wouldn't be that shocking to see him leave again because he wants to play football.

He'll never see the field. Can't fault the kid for leaving if he just wants to play some ball. We can use the scholly on someone else.

No disrespect to Montana, but he's just not that good. Let him fight it out with Tate Forcier up at Montanta.

Of course he shouldn't have a problem winning that battle, Tate can't pass his classes.

Let me just say that I've never advocated the whole aspect of 'legacy' scholarships being handed out like a thank you card. This isn't a fraternity; it's Notre Dame football. Not one member of the Joe Montana days is still around with the university, so I'm not sure why Kelly thought it was necessary to reward him a scholarship. Nate seems like a fantastic kid and a real competitive player, which I definitely respect, but he is not Notre Dame caliber and is taking that roster spot away from someone who could possibly be more deserving.

Best of luck to whatever Nate decides. If he wants to play quarterback at Montana, then I hope he whoops on Tate for the starting job. If he decides to hang the pads up and just take his Notre Dame degree, then I'll respect him even more.

As one of the board's most curmudgeony members, I'll say i'm proud of you guys for classy-ing-up this thread. And yes: I do think that a ND-oriented message board should be 100% classy---we have the Leprechaun Lounge for when the night creatures want to howl through us.

Hope Montana isn't being bullied out of school by the staff, ala Nick Saban's infamous "greyshirt" style, where coaches guilt a kid on scholly to either:

A) transfer on their own accord (the old "hey kid, you ain't gonna play, do the program a favor and compete somehwhere else")

or

B) have the kid fake an injury

*I'm not accusing the staff of actually doing this, just stating I'd feel bad for the kid if that was the case, and blackballing the Montana name from the ND brand would be a stupid move.

You say that like its a bad thing.

When you're obssessed with being classy (definite strain of this throughout the ND community), especially on a message board...I won't say it's a bad thing, it's just a buzz kill.

It was especially interesting reading KPENN's thread and all the sexist stuff in there (which I thought was funny) and then coming here and seeing that people were deeply offended that we'll miss Montana's mother and sister because (gasp!) they're hot, with the implication that (gasp!) Nate might be buried on the depth chart and (gasp!) probably isn't very good.

OMG SHUT DOWN IRISH ENVY WE NEED A ROUNDTABLE DICUSSION TO DISCUSS THIS BETRAYAL!!!!

I sure as heck ain't obsessed with being classy. I didn't read KPENN's thread so I have no idea about that.
I don't think its all that much to ask when talking about a player and his family to be able to talk about them in a respectful manner.
I don't think that those comments really added too much 'buzz' to the whole conversation anyways.
If its not necessary, nor funny, and can be offensive...don't post it.

KPENN's thread is in the Leprechaun Lounge where it should be and where it is welcomed by design of the Boardmasters. Generally elsewhere IE doesn't refer remarks about anyone's families. Many of the mods were walking on pins-and-needles during the Lynch saga. People take offense, regardless of whether one thinks it's justified. It does not seem too much to ask to honor one simple "sensitivity" about players' families.

Montana has a very good program, with a lot of fan support and a pretty good stadium. Usually ranked well in the FCS. SIU has played them - it's a tough game. I don't see Montana starting there, he couldn't start at Pasadena City College.

I'd like to see him transfer to somewhere where he will play...because he's not likely to play at Dame...
and I'd like to see his scholarship freed up...

BUT That Notre Dame degree will help him alot more in life than his father's name before long.

God forbid the Montana's read this message board. Even if the mean things people saying here are true, it's not right. He's a son of Notre Dame.

Remember that.

Nothing wrong with speculating on who might be where on the depth chart. But, staying classy is just what we should do...even on a message board.

That Notre Dame degree will help him alot more than his father's name before long anyway.

I'm confused...
If he transfers, thus freeing his scholarship, he won't have a ND degree.

If he transfers that will only free up a scholarship for this year that will be available next year. So if you give someone his scholly this year that does not deserve a ND scholly, you are taking away a scholly for the next 3 years, not just the one Nate occupies this year.

They were separate train's of thought....
I should have separated them with an empty space!
