FWIW, interesting thread on the University of Montana website. Intriguing if true, nomenclature aside, but there are rumors Nate and Joe are at the U of M discussing a transfer:

Update per SBT:
If the Montana family is serious about the Montana football program, the talks will have to escalate quickly into formal ones. According to the Missoulian newspaper, should Nate Montana enroll by Friday, he would be eligible to participate in the Grizzlies' spring practices. If not, he would have to wait until fall camp.

I think the most intersting part of this is how an ND follower initially found a Montana message board with a Nate Montana rumor.

It means we have a shot at Jadeveon Clowney. Sorry--just clownin' around. I love Joe and his sons, by the way. Just for the whole legacy bit. I would take Nick over Nate, though. Either way good luck if he moves on.

Don't throw himmunder the bus guys. Yes, he's not that good and it would free up a schollie for next year, but he is Irish!

FWIW-Montana is one of the schools that Forcier is looking at. I don't want that kid going to Miami.

If Montana left, the biggest loss would be his hot mom. She would be missed.

I say: be respectful to Nate and his family, wish him the best whatever they decide, and, if he transfers see the good in it for us, too---another scholarship opening possibility. Nate did all he could for us. That's all we have the right to expect from him. It was Coach that gave the scholarship, not Nate [or Joe] who demanded anything. God bless you young man, and we appreciate the service.

Mike

Mike you are terrific. The Montanas have done all they could for ND.
He is a good kid who just wants to play---being 6th on the list of 6
does not bode well for playing time.

He always seemed like the guy that would transfer. I think we read into him being a legacy too much. He did not look happy at times on the sideline to me, and I'm sure that even though he's probably a nice kid, there are some ego problems being Montana's son and wanting to play somewhere. Being 5th or 6th on the depth chart only adds to a likely transfer.

You could tell all that from his facial expression but everyone else was "reading" too much into him being a legacy? Why don't we stop the speculation of whether or not he "looks" like he wasn't enjoying himself and he had an ego because of his facial expression on the sideline?

I think it's very inappropriate and premature to be counting our scholarship right now. Nate was the backup at one point last year, and a very good kid that works hard. I personally like him, and don't mind giving him a scholarship in that situation and letting him finish out his career at Notre Dame.

I just feel this comments are very inappropriate, this young man made a decision to walk on and earned a scholarship from Notre Dame, more than any of us did, let's respect him during this decision making process, if there is one.

I was going to say the same. Very disrespectful and low. We, as ND fans, have to be a step above others. I can see very similar postings in the USC forum and thats outrageous.
Please edit those two posts and speak no as such.
Wish you the best Nate, Joe and Montana Fam! Hope wherever you go you prosper.

And even if/when hes NOT Irish, we as the Irish should have nothing to do with these types of remarks, EVER.

This thing is just a rumor from the Montana site at this point.

If it somehow turns out to be accurate, it would be nice if we could be respectful in our comments. Nate came to Notre Dame with very little experience and when the qb depth became an issue, his presence helped the team. Who would have expected a walk on like Nate to take the field at all, let alone taking the field against Michigan when it mattered. If we had kicked a fg on that last play against Michigan, I for one would be pretty happy with Nate's contribution this past year. And I wish him success no matter what his decision is regarding next season.

I didn't mean for it to be that disrespectful. However, with Crist coming back, Reese playing prety well as a freshman and Golson coming in, I really don't see much PT for him. Good for him for doing what's best for him. However, at the end of the day, was he really going to ever get much of a chance here?

I honestly hope the best for the kid and wish him well with whatever he does.

I also heard a rumor that Joe was threatening to pull him out if BK didn't play him over Reese. Don't know if it's true but it sounds like something Joe would do.

I think Old Man Mike said it best. Recall the kid from Rudy who played for Notre Dame always in the shadow of his father. It must be difficult to be Joe Montana's son (especially if you're trying to excel at your father's sports at your father's position). The kid did his best and put in a lot of hard work.

Also, let's lay off on the mom/sister comments. I knew his sister during college and she's a great girl. Even if the comments were meant as 'compliments' they are still disrespectful to the family.
