This guy was just interviewed on ESPU's Junior Combine and sounded like a complete idiot....not really sure if he could handle ND's academics. Maybe I'm judging a book by its cover, though.

You're judging a kid on one interview and calling him an idiot and saying he can't meet ND? Pot, meet kettle.

Notice how I called myself out on judging a book by its cover. Also I said he sounded like an idiot, not that he is one. The interview went a little like this...

"Tell us the story about being offered your first scholarship in 9th grade?"

"Um, you know, I ran the 40 time and then he offered me."

"What do you want to get from this camp?"

"Um, I don't know. I want to be good."

"But what do you want to learn?"

"I want to, um.....learn some stuff."

Just sounded extremely stupid. Maybe he was just nervous, but I don't think I've ever NOT been impressed with a Notre Dame athlete and his speaking skills. Like I said, I'm judging him.

Not everyone has great speaking skills. Plus most of these kids have never been coached on how to talk to the media. I don't find Michael Floyd to be the greatest speaker in the world. I mean he doesn't sound stupid or anything but I don't find him to be a great speaker. He's my favorite player but if he can speak or not has nothing to do with that.

I know the kid is a great talent but who is he playing against? The talent level he is playing against leaves a lot to be desired, Man. Darby is a gifted athlete.

5'11? is that tall enough for a Kelly DB?

Looking at the corners he has recruited no it wouldn't be. All of them are at least 6'0. Maybe he will be a RB for BK. If ND follows their path of recruiting 6'0 and above CBs then Darby would have to play on offense. I really think they should have went after Doran Grant harder than what they did even though he is 5'11.

He's only a junior in highschool. I grew another two inches after by junior year. There is still plenty of time for this kid to grow another inch. Diaco has flat said he wants this kid on his side of the ball (defense).

Diaco never said that or he would have gotten into trouble.

ND was one of five schools he mentioned that he liked in a rivals article today. Not a top five, just five he liked. Good to hear him talk about ND when its not an ND site interviewing him.

I am sorry but 5'11 is one inch away from 6'0. Why does everyone get hung up over ONE FREAKING INCH!

5'11, 5'10, I honestly don't care when the guy is the fastest kid in America for his age (and since he is competing in international races as well, maybe the world). You can't teach speed! Besides, Derrelle Revis is 5'11" so I'm sure that is fine. Just imagine that speed on defense and special teams!

Just get the kid signed and we'll worry about the "problem" of where to put him on the field later!!!

Something about height: what people really care about is effective range of body parts, not where the peak of one's head ends up in the measurement room.

I always ran into this in basketball. You really were recruiting shoulder height plus wingspan. With the exception of your brain and sense perceptors [which don't have to be "tall"], nothing from your neck up plays much role in your body function on the field. You guys know what I'm saying: in basketball, a so-called seven-footer with a dwarfed wingspan is a much "smaller" player than a 6'9" player with a pterodactyl's wingspan.

Height is only a rough judge of this effective reach [due to the fact that most of us are shaped sort of alike], but it's possible that the infamous "Six-foot" guideline has wiggle room in it depending on what the guy's effective reach actually is. That's why you measure more than one bit on a player. [and all this is saying nothing about a "short" player who is just freaky good "in the air"].

Darby Update:

95% chance he makes the trip with some highschool coaches for the spring game. He has no other visits set at this time.

Likes the Tee Shepard commit and is not worried that they will be competing at the same position. He wants to play DB.

Likes what ND brought in last year on the DL and would like to play behind a line like that.

Is friends with Keith Marshall. They have talked about playing together in college.

Awesome to get him on campus and being his only visit.

Awesome that he loves competition, it breeds success.

Awesome that he saw how well our coaches recruited the defense last year.

Awesome that he hopes to bring Keith Marshall.

Awesome period.

Not quite the Laura Vandervoort / Jessica Alba combo I've been hoping for, but it'll do...
