Ray Zellars one play why:

Man, I remember that play like it was yesterday! The stadium exploded when Zellars hit that defender.

I spoke to Ray a few times because we lived in the same dorm: Pangborn. Really chilled out and down to earth.

Tough question. Kinda like asking which was your favorite million dollar lottery ticket winner...

All great legends from before I was born.
Maybe by position, some I have read about and before my time, and some recent, and...just off the top of my head:

QB: Clements, Montana, Rice, McDougal, Powlus, Theisman
RB: Pinkett, Waters, Bettis, Brooks
TE: Bavaro, ah heck, who am I kidding. All of t hem. Hunter et al
OL: They all just hogs. Taylor, Young
WR/All purpose: Brown, Floyd, Stovall, Rocket, Getherall
DL: Zorro, Niehaus, Browner, Fry
LB: Crable, Manti, Crum
DB: Deurson, Lyght, Townsend

#2 Tom Clemens: the pass that sealed the Sugar Bowl was such a thing of beauty - gutsy call, calm and cool in the pocket and then the way the ball just seemed to float right into Robin Weber's hands. Take that Bear F****** Bryant!

Long group of others who are so close: Tim Brown, Tom Gatewood, Michael Stonebreaker, Todd Light, Rocket, Bettis, Bavaro and McAfee, Tony Rice for goodness sake, Eric Penick, Alan Pinkett, Bob Crable, Rocky Bleier and his honor Alan Page.

Favorite coach - Ara!!!

I'm on the same wagon of people who can't really remember the old time greats, (no offense meant). I'd go with Golden Tate, I've never seen a person make some of the moves in the open field that he did, and the combination of speed, elusiveness, ups, and power... it's pretty impressive. Plus he jumped into the MSU band!

1. Tim Brown, unstoppable on punt and kick off returns, last Irish to win the HT.
2. Chris Zorich, what a beast. (Can I use that word if not talking about Lynch?)
3. Tony Rice, all I can remember, is him running down the side line against West Virginia. Greatest play In Notre Dame history (During my lifetime).

Paul Hornung. Still the only player to ever win the Heisman on a losing team (1956 2-8-0).

There are so many to name but if I had to choose one it would be Lee Becton as I always patterned my running style after him growing up before my inevitable move to the trenches.

Marc Edwards, Jerome Bettis, Derrick Mayes, Kevin McDougal, Chris Zorich, Kinnon Tatum, and of course the Rocket are all right there.

To put in a dash of the Old Spice: Nick Buoniconti. Two-way All-American, All-Pro, Superbowl, Hall-of-Fame...and my teammate in ND intramural basketball [Hah!!]. I don't think many realize how small Nick was. I, at six foot, was noticeably taller [yet we stuck him at forward and me at guard]. As a freshman he weighed about 185.[He grew to about 215 at ND, and not a lot more in the pros---but sideline-to-sideline speed, skill, and toughness]. In our first basketball game, I don't believe Nick took a shot---total team player/no ego. On our first rebound, I heard a loud WHACK next to me and turned to see Nick staring at a football junior---a gigantic lineman with a wild red-haired Viking head about the size of a bushelbasket grinning at him and saying "welcome rookie!!", named Bob Koreck. Nick never flinched and waded in there the whole game. All these were little glimmerings of the man and player he would become. And he was a competitor at everything. When we were seniors, we played on different teams. The first play that I brought the ball downcourt, he, still playing the world's smallest forward, yelled to Angelo Dabeiro : "let's put a box and one on him!!". Thanks a lot, teammate, I then had a long afternoon. Gotta love him, though.

Brady Quinn baby!

seems like he's not getting as much love as he used to.

The best QB at ND that I have ever seen in person.

shark was unbelievable also.

the entire 05-06 teams were some of my all time favs.

07-09 had some very memorable players but the winning wasn't there to really enjoy them.

Brady was very goood in the system and had very good Wrs around him. That team would have been awesome if they could have stopped someone.

Hands down Rocket, I played against him in HS, he was a tailback and his brother Quadry was fullback, what a backfield. Kids from every school in the area would go see them play, if we wern't playing at the same time. Great person off the field as well.

Well since people are listing multiple players:
Zellars, Mayes, McDougal, Powlus, Denson, Bobby Taylor, Deke Cooper, Fasano, Benny Gilbo (SP), Corey Minor, Jeff Faine, Bryant Young, Shawn Wooden (FSU Play) man I could go on and on.

Lee Becton! HAHAHA! He was awesome. I also loved Randy Kinder! But the only play i can remember about him is when he got blown up by Westbrook (from UT) on an option pitch that Powlus should've never made!

Autry Denson was a favorite of mine when I was younger. I'd have to say more recently I would pick Manti Teo.
