"We got another important commitment today, and that is Troy Niklas; we're waiting for his letter right now."
--Brian Kelly on UND.com
Thought you couldn't comment on a prospect until he signs the LOI?
Either way, this is awesome news.
Now does that other kid that was friends with him walk on here?
Joe Schmidt... and very good question I would love to have him as a walk-on.
I apologize if this had already been discussed at length, but scrolling through 11 pages of Troy Niklas posts is painful so here goes: Where is Kelly looking to put this kid? At 6''5 240 pounds, he looks like a DE, but with Tuitt, Springman, Lynch on board, do we need another Defensive lineman (I know you can never have anough great DL)?
Are we looking for this could to fill out and put on 45-50 pounds to be an OT?
I'm sure Kelly discussed his plan with Troy before getting him to sign....thoughts?
I think we should offer him a scholly. Kid is a baller that is totally under the radar. Plus, we have an extra spot with Okotchka gone.
On another note, I thought Niklas was going to do the hat dance? Its a shame if they announced his loi prematurely and ruined Troy's moment in the spotlight. Oh well, he will be on tv every week from now on.
Nah, with 6 5th years + Niklas we are at a full 85. Getting the kid on board as a preferred walk-on with the ability to earn a schollie is definitely the best way to play this.
Nice take from USC.
I am too lazy, but I thought that we could take 24 in this class. I even read somewhere that the board Kelly has, list 24 slots. Before losing Okotchka, we were still hoping for Niklas. Now we lost Okotchka, got Niklas and we are full? I dont get it?
I really think that this kid will take a scholarship before walking on at ND. Considering that we may lose a qb from transfer (complete speculation on my part, its just that we are getting backloaded in qb's), I really wish this kid would come to ND. Reason #234 why having Montana on sholarship is hurting us.
