I think he really wants to stay East. I really don't think it is about him not wanting to come here.

So one of the main reasons that I've seen for why Savon would pick the Irish is that he wanted to be a part of a good recruiting class and many people have noted how much better ours is than theirs. But they just got a 4 star (ESPN) lineman today which makes 3 including Shuler and a DT. And many of their other 20 recruits are ranked as pretty high 3 stars. This has to be one of their best classes in a while and if they add Savon then I would think definitely.

Just struck me because I assumed they had a mediocre class but I kept seeing them get commitments from solid recruits and the 4 star OL today pushed me to post something.

Not that I think he's a Rutgers lock but just that this particular reason I don't think is so much in our favor as we assume.

He was also at Rutger's the past weekend, which the 4 star lineman Josue Matias was on along with a ton of other prospects and commits. Matias is a monster, and combined with Lumpkin (Savon's high school teammate) should create the foundation for a good O-line for years to come. Hope I am wrong, but I just really feel Savon will wind up at Rutgers.

I suspect Kelly is really pushing the "we're going to win a NC while you're here" angle on him, which is what he apparently did with Ishaq. I think that's what we're seeing of his finalists, a couple schools where he is comfortable that he thinks will prepare him for the pros in a safe way with a fullback (Rutgers, MSU, UNC) and a school that might win a NC but they don't run the kind of offense he wants (us).

Has anyone heard. I stumbled across this article...Dated Jan 15th. I thought the comment scout.com is reporting was pretty interesting. Is Rutgers no longer in the picture?

Savon Huggins: Notre Dame, Rutgers and North Carolina All Vying for 5-Star RB
Savon Huggins, a 5-star running back, is deciding between Notre Dame, Rutgers and North Carolina as National Signing Day approaches. Huggins has taken his official visits to Notre Dame, North Carolina and Auburn, and his father calls those his finalists, according to a Scout.com report. As he hails from the Garden State, Rutgers is hopeful to land Huggins. However, going up against perennial powers Notre Dame and North Carolina, which have both put together impressive recruiting classes, is not the best bet for a Big East school that went 4-8 last year.

It's between, ND, Rutgers and UNC. The ND, UNC and Auburn that I think is confusing you is where he's taken official visits and since then he's visited Michigan State and has since cut them and Auburn to have a final 3 of ND, Rutgers and UNC.

Odds are against it being ND but you never know. Seems like they really like ND a lot but are the worst fit for football as he and his father want him to play in a traditional system with a FB.

You mean he hasn't heard Springmann's being moved to FB.

Would love to get this kid, but odds are he will end up at Rutgers or UNC. I am very excited about our class and if we don't land this kid it's not the end of the world, but if for some reason we get lucky and land this kid he will be special for sure.

I think we are toast..... BTW Rutgers has the second best class in the Big Least behind Louisville. I know that is not saying much but.....

As of right now and next year...TCU is not in the big east. So it would be Lou. then Rugters.

The recruits they pick up this year will play in the Big East so twist it anyway you want to, TCU is a Big East team. So it's TCU, Louisville, Rutgers.

I would love it if Savon were to commit. But if he does, that would be a bonus. Cam McDaniel is a very good running back...not blazing fast in a timed 40, but remember this is the football team not the track team. He is a surprisingly strong kid (given his size) and he is very hard to bring down. He hits a hole decisively and possesses the vision and the instincts needed for a successful college rb. His hands are a big plus...in short he is a prototypical spread rb.

If we get Huggins that would be great, but I have trouble believing that he would want to play in a spread system.

We could very easily go to a variation of the pistol when this kid is in. He would be able to run downhill and we would have a lot of the options that a spread affords.

Oh, absolutely...not for a second do I think he would not fit in. I just think that that a pure rb like him would be drawn towards a more pro-style offense.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with you. I just want him because I'm starting to feel a sense of entitlement this recruiting cycle!

It feels good to be Irish all of a sudden!

In 2 years if Savon doesnt commit, we will forget about him and that will be because Cam is the real deal, he keeps getting overlooked in regards to Amir and Savon, but if you watch his high school tape and realize he is doing it against some of the best competition in the nation, he will fit in nicely here that is for sure.

According to the threads on here Cam is faster than Savon in the 40. 4.53 vs 4.55

Same speed for all intents and purposes. But again, it's not about straight away speed, it's about football speed and that is where Cam will hopefully wow us all!

40 times are and always have been given way too much credit...I for one have always preferred to see film and on film the Mcdaniel kid is fast, he may not break the 60 yard runs if he gets into the open field, but I can't remember Armando breaking any big time runs outside of the k.o.r. against hawaii. If the kid can get downhill hard and fast with one cut and get us 20 yards when it's there, than that's great, but please don't put any stock into his 40 or Huggins.

Just ask Mike Floyd. He keeps getting knocked for his lack of speed/40 time, but then everytime I see him play he's getting into the 2nd and 3rd levels with ease. Football players are football players bottom line.

Some scouts say that Huggins is the best lateral moving back they have seen in sometime. I love the ND bias guys but Cam McDaniel is no where near Huggins. I do believe Cam will play a contributing roll on this team but at max it will only be special teams for the first two years. I do think he can be a guy like Danny Woodhead. Tough as an ox with the heart of a champion that everyone always underestimates....sigh.. man I hate the Pats.

I would take times that require lateral/change of direction movement/speed over 40 anyday. With that said a 4.35 shuttle isn't exactly lighting, but the scouts i'm sure study much more than i do. I'm no cam mcdaniel band wagoner, personally, but to compare running backs based on 40 times is ludacris.

I agree. It's fun to say that we can easily see Cam becoming a star simply because we're bias, but what's to say that Savon isn't currently underated as well? When you say Cam will play himself into a 4-star, what's to say Savon wouldn't play himself to a 5-star?

I think Cam will be fine, but Savon is the real deal.

Questioning a kids character you do not know on this board should = banned in my opinion! If he was actually here showing signs of being a me player or there was evidence from HS teamates or something maybe but these comments seem out of line!
