A couple more game highlights. Sometimes it's hard to pick him out but he is #69 playing Left OT and switching between both DE positions.

9/10/10 vs. Northrop - Not a lot of big plays but it's hilarious watching him block some pour guy all the way out of bounds about 3/4 of the way through.
9/10 vs Northrop Link

9/17/10 vs Harding - About 2/3 of the way through has a nice series of plays as DE where he has a qb sack, absolutely lays the wood on the pass to the RB, intercepts a pass scoring a touchdown, and made a nice play chasing down the RB for a loss
9/17/10 vs Harding Link

And Big Tony IS BIG Tony!! What a giant! Reminds me of when I was in the same arena with George Kunz [ancient history guys---Notre Dame AA tackle and Atlanta Falcons AllPro]. Kunz blocked out the Sun and had shoulders like a sail. Hopefully Tony, and our other bigger-than-life tackle, Tate Nichols, can get up to George's standards.

I'll be at his game this Friday. His (and Remound Wright's) Saints are in the IHSAA Sectional Finals against the team I coach. It should be a great game.

In watching film of Dwenger's games over the past couple weeks, teams have really been taking some cheap shots on Springmann. Especially going low and chop blocking (not cut blocking) him at the knees. Glad he is okay and that for sure won't happen from my squad this Friday night.

I love this kid! He represents all things an RKG and Notre Dame recruit should stand for. Smart, Big, athletic and bleeds blue and gold. We as fans know what it takes to be a ND fan because we still tune in to NBC on Saturday rather 12-0 or 4-5! We need guys who WANT to be in South Bend, Love the tradition and are 100% committed to restoring Irish Glory. If a recruit is not up to the challenge and opportunity, they will be a bust...rather they are 2* or 4*. That is what I see in the past 3-5 years from our Irish. Weis recruited well but did he get guys who bleed blue and gold? No. You get a couple of recruiting classes w/ RKG's who LOVE ND and everything it represents...watch out (THATS when we'll be BEASTS!)

Should be a great game Mac. I will unfortunately be stuck in the Fort and can't make it.
There have been teams taking cheap shots at him all year, and thankfully, he has not been hurt. Northside even had guys kicking him in the nuts when he was down in the pile on tackles. I am told that happened a number of times.
Wright had 400 yards of total offense and 4 more touchdowns last weekend!
Columbia City has been great this year, so good luck to you. Here's to a competative and safe game tomorrow night!!!

Just as likely Hinton is the area recruiter. He definetly recruits Ohio. I think all of these guys are getting a shot at DE.

I just about had a heart attack on twitter.
Everytime ISDUpdate does a twitter update they place the commit's position and then say he's a commit.
In the case of Springmann it said 'DE commit Springmann was on campus for an OV this weekend' or something along those lines.
Looking at it really quickly without noticing the position made my heart skip a beat. haha.

And BGIF, I don't read badly.I was readly quickly through the message and for a split second thought it had said he decommitted. An easy mistake.

Reading your post it appeared Springmann had a heart attack. He didn't.

Please insert an "I" at the beginning of your first sentence.

Are we still thinking of this kid for DE, or with Tuitt and Lynch on board is he now firmly on the OL? I just don't see why we would put him at DE when we have some concerns with depth on the OL, and we have to top tier prospects ahead of him at DE?

Defense is OK, but probably means DE for sure, rather than DT. That would seem to mean four DEs in this class, which, given the whole picture of our team, seems heavy.

I suppose no one expects Big Tony to become a nose tackle, and I don't either. All that arm-&-leg length can get in the way there. When my brother played for Virginia Tech with Frank Beamer, he played a Virginia team whose "middle guard" as they called them then, was an overgrown monster named John Naponick [6'10". c.300lbs]. [tallest football player I ever saw, and center on the basketball team as well]. He couldn't get out of anyone's way in the center of the meathouse, and my "little brother" rolled him up into ungainly piles all day. Tech ran wild off right guard.

Big Tony, therefore, may be destined for a power-style DE where he can use his length, meaning he's "like" Tuitt in playing style. Maybe Kelly sees Kona and KLM as speed ends like Lynch, and if Hounshell goes that way too, maybe views Big Tony as one of only two power DEs after EJ graduates. Can't quite figure this one out; maybe you guys have the insight.

4 DE's in this class is probably a good number. As things sit now after 2012 our DE depth chart will basically be Schwenke, Heggie, Lynch, Tuitt, Springmann, and Hounshell. Now obviously we will add a few more DE's next year, but we really need to build depth so we don't have freshman stepping in and being major contributors unless they are just flat out great. Also, with the way that Diaco likes to substitute to keep guys fresh the more quality depth the better.

Just my .02

Springmann and Hounshell were both told they would be playing D, obviously things can change but as of right now they are D.

Kelly just had an in-home visit with him and he (Springman) was talking as if he was going to play defense. Not sure if you have other info, but as of now, it sounds like he's playing defense.

That's consistent with a previous interview where he mentioned they were starting him out.

I suspect somebody will move to the other side next August. OMM, Jeff Alm played DT for ND at 6-7 and as I recall did pretty well. I don't recall a taller defender. Patulski, DE, was 6-6 wrecking crew at DE.

I agree with Champs I expect a lot of rotation to keep legs fresh. Kelly's offense didn't run the number of plays expected in '10 but had more TOP than UC did the year before. As the offense matures the script says ND's D is on the field longer. Gonna be exhausting for 260 - 300 pound DLs playing 70 or 80 plays per game. Rotate 'em.
