Thanks! It was awesome news to wake up to. Hopefully, the excitement will be with me when they get me up in the morning to start my rehab. I have to walk to the end of the hall and back. If the "Pit Bull" can get Tuitt back, I can do this. Thats what I'm telling myself anyway. In case some of you are wondering what the helll TLIf is, it is short for "Tansforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion". They take some bone grafts from your Illiac Crest and fuse your lumbar vertebrea. Slap some plates, screws and rods in and, hopefully, your good to go. At least thats what the doc said.

Man, that sounds like pure hell. Best of luck to you.

All the best, bigedefense. I hope the procedure proves successful. DO YOUR "LAPS!"

Six years ago I had 18 inches of artery in my left thigh replaced with Gore-Tex™ in a femoral-popliteal bypass. I, too, was encouraged to walk the halls as soon as a few tubes here and there were disconnected.

My dogged perseverance not only made me a regular and welcome sight with the staff at the station on the floor, it shortened my hospital stay by two days. When I made my final "victory lap" to thank everyone while I awaited the wheelchair to shuttle me out of the hospital, I was given an ovation.

I wish you good luck, welcome you back and look forward to your posts as Irish football continues its upward path.

I am very glad this all worked out for you the way it did. You must be a pretty tough old bird. What I am really, really, curious about, though, is how you got that little TM next to Gore-Tex. That really looks cool.

I'm a CNC machinist in the spinal medical field. Don't know if you got any of my implants in you but I hope your recovery goes well.

WOW! I go in for TLIF surgery yesterday afternoon and the last thing I read is Tuitt is GT verbal. I am in my bed tonight and I get online and the first thing I see is (Notre Dame Verbal)! I let out an obviously loud yell and 3 nurses come running into my room. They thought I had fallen out of my bed. I told them the great news and they tried to take my laptop away from me. NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND, I told them. I have some catching up to do. I am not allowed to get excited or they take it away (and told me they would take my morphine pump away) if I yelled again for something like that. Won't be online long tonight, so if some more Earth shattering news comes up, would someone PM me so I can stay up on the happenings. I will get to go home in a few days and hopefully, part of my rehab will be putting in several hours a day on Irish Envy. WELCOME BACK STEPHON!!!!

Hey Big D,
I hope you have a speedy recovery!!! To all who has said this class has great moms- I agree. For anyone who has access there is a story at Irish Illustrated: Tuitt opens up about Irish comeback.

Freebie from Scout:

For one day, Notre Dame had lost Stephon Tuitt from its 2011 recruiting class. On Tuesday, the 5-star defensive end from Monroe High School (Ga.) de-committed from Notre Dame and committed to Georgia Tech. On Wednesday night, after a meeting with the Notre Dame staff, Tuitt recommitted to the Irish.

Stephon Tuitt is one of the most important recruits in Notre Dame’s recruiting class, and Brian Kelly wanted him to know that. On Wednesday night, coach Kelly, coach Bob Diaco, coach Mike Elston and coach Chuck Martin met with Tuitt to see if they could get him back on board. By the time the four Notre Dame coaches left, the answer was yes.

“Coach Kelly and the coaches came down for an in-home visit,” Tuitt recalled. “That was the first time that I had talked to him (Kelly) in a while and I got some things off my chest that I wanted answered. There were some little things and some big things. We talked about everything and I got my answers.

“The little things actually turned into big things. Like what can you do up there in wintertime and what goes on up there. They’re probably little things to some people, but to me they were big things.”

A lot made of Georgia Tech being the local school and Notre Dame being far away, but Tuitt wasn’t as much worried about the distance as he was about making a final decision.

“It didn’t play a lot into it, but the distance was in the back of my mind, because this would be taking me out of my comfort zone,” he said. “Talking to some people like my grandma, I know that I’m going to have a lot of support. I think I just got really nervous and that’s it.”

Recommitting to Notre Dame actually turned out to be an easy decision for Stephon. He had committed to the school for specific reasons and the reasons he liked Notre Dame never changed.

“It’s all the things that I always liked about Notre Dame,” Tuitt explained. “It’s a great school and when I went up there I had a great time. Just thinking back to why I made my original decision, all the tradition, the history and the education… it was unbelievable. “

When asked if there were a chance that he would reconsider his commitment to Notre Dame in the days leading up to signing day, Stephon’s response was quick and decisive.

"Everything has definitely been shut done," he said. "I'm done."

Tuitt will be ND come NSD, not only is this kid a 5 * football recruit, he is a 5 * standout person (just like Lynch and Williams). I think once he gets here, gets associated with the team and the incoming class he'll adjust fine.

If I was employed as a writer with constant deadlines, I'd be monitoring all the good fan sites for ideas. Hard to keep up that pace on your own. This fellow is probably pretty good; others are, as we have seen, desperate hacks who put any old thing out there---proving that it's a rare bird who can consistently deliver good sports writing.

So, it seems IE has an even greater role in forming the entirety of thinking about the college football universe than we thought. I'll bet we could get Rich Rodriguez fired if we just worked at it...WHOA!! Boy, we ARE football, afterall!!...but I guess most of you already knew that.

Tough week for GT. After losing Tuitt (however briefly they "had" him), they lose their other 4 star DE, Darrius Caldwell from Atlanta to Illinois. They now have 0 DEs in their class. Tough to lose two major talents at DE when trying to run a 3-4, especially both from your backyard.

It's Georgia Freakin Tech. Nuff said.

bad program? no. middle of the road. but if they have expectations of going head to head with the big boys for 4 and 5 star recruits, they're going to be disappointed. often.
