I hope he goes to UM. I mean he is not going to get the same quality of recruit at Michigan that he does at LSU. I am not afraid of his coaching prowess, he seems over matched. I have no idea why he stuck with Jefferson all year, that guy was so hit or miss. I think with more consistant play at the QB position they might have beaten Arkansas and maybe even Aburn. Lee was a better play at QB, yet Miles refused to put him in, even when Jefferson struggled. I say bring him on, and watch UM struggle......

They announced in the BCS game...that he would take the job. I dont think that is a good call by him...he will not get the same althletes at UM.

Man I dunno. I mean, a large part of me felt LSU just wasn't his final destination. Michigan will be it. Period. I feel he's successful in Michigan, Carr-esque.

Thank-god we're not dealing with Harbaugh.

Without oversigning he is going to crash and burn. No more throwing kids under the bus.

Mr Miles is an 8-5 season away from the LSU fans calling for his head and being canned down there. There is a reason he would take the Michigan job and that is some longer term job security. With the mess RichRod left the fan base will give him some time

It seems as though Miles is throwing himself at Michigan and they are a little reluctant to pull the trigger. Could it me the money? The eating of the grass?

Michigan would be crazy...at this point....to pass on Miles. The guy has his deficiencies but has won a national championship.....he will be able to recruit at Michigan. LSU fans have always known that his heart is with UM and hate him for it.

That's what I've been thinking. I don't think they would can him next year unless they win 6 games or something. But two mediocre season's back to back and he would be out on the streets. And there won't be any Michigan type jobs opening up for him then.

I don't think we have a lot to fear about Miles. First, as many people in the past have pointed out, he is heavily dependent on his coordinators. If they come with him, then that's different, but Miles as a pure coach is not even close to what his record suggests.

Second, his gold recruiting line will vanish and he'll have to earn it at Michigan. He's not going to be gift wrapped 12 of the best players every year like he is at LSU.

Third, his hire is risky because it implies that he has to bring UM back to the promise land. You can't fault UM for trying to get the best coach available, and maybe Miles is just that, but he's going to face an uphill battle in rebuilding that program.

I was of the mind that UM would be better off bringing in a young coach who could rebuild, get Michigan back on track, slowly make them a winner and then hand the program off to someone like Harbaugh or another top-level coach.

I have serious doubts that Les Miles is going to be able to come in and really make a difference. In truth, he could have the same record and recruiting as another younger coach through year two or three, but since they're dishing out the money to Miles, the expectations are going to be weighing the program down. It makes you wonder just how much rebuilding Michigan fans and alumni think is needed. No doubt they'll be patient next year and maybe the year after, but what if Miles isn't taking off in year three?

The thing no one is talking about is that for UM to really take off, Miles will have to recruit on defense as good, if not significantly better, than he has been at LSU. And he has to do this ASAP. If he is ultimately hired, he has to secure a very good/great defensive recruiting class by next winter and he's going to have to do it for about three straight years. That's the reality, and I don't think Miles can do it and meet those expectations.

Let's not forget Miles isn't the brightest light bulb out there too. You're damn right I looked forward to him making a fool of himself.

Long-term I think UM is better off with a young and hungry coach who can rebuild the burnt ashes left by Rich Rod. I don't expect many UM fans to view things like that though.

Here is the flip side to that coin:

Les Miles can recruit. He is very good at it. He wasn't exactly handed those recruits at LSU, he is pretty famous as a salesman.

RichRod couldn't recruit for crap (except for his offense) and all of the 4*/5* talent Lloyd Carr had transferred or slowly started graduating from the day he took over. Les Miles will have no trouble getting a lot of good young talent in to Michigan. While the team might not immediately improve very much, in 2 to 3 seasons you can expect a Michigan team that beats the crap out of most of the Big Ten. The Big Ten, simply put, is the most consistently overrated conference in America. There just isn't that much speed or talent there outside of Ohio State. If Les Miles can get a nasty defense at Michigan they will win a lot of games with just that.

I don't expect Les Miles to turn Michigan into a super power overnight, but he does have a good young QB in Devin Gardner to work with and should be able to instantly improve that porous defense assuming his staff follows. With all that being said, I will be absolutely thrilled to see Les Miles versus Harbaugh on the other sideline.

I guess I'm just not that thrilled with Miles as a recruiter and believe that the LSU job really is easy to recruit from.

He'll be coming into a totally different atmosphere in Ann Arbor. He's not going to have 12 of Louisiana's best prospects signing with him early so he can focus on grabbing a couple stars out of Texas or Mississippi. Let's also not forget who preceded him at LSU too.

Of course he'll recruit better than Rich Rod, but that's not saying much. What I'm saying is if there ever was an SEC coach, with a good record and a national title, that was going to fail in a (somewhat) drastic job change such as Michigan...I think it is Les Miles.

It hurts the program to have a terrible year in recruiting. The next class has to be an absolute stud to help make up for it. If Michigan struggles next year (which is a good bet), they will have a hard time getting a good class then too...

Good thing Mr. Hayes was looking for coaching stability! The AD dropped the ball on this one.

I'm sure glad they passed on BK when they chose **** Rod. I hate U of M but never thought I'd see the day when they couldn't pull in their top choice coach.
