FWIW....there is some tough guy on another board that claims that he is a PSU lock. I dont think anyone one other than Isaq knows...

PSU is tomorrow (1/10) but has until 1/19 to withdraw from classes there. Syracuse starts on 1/18

The update from Orangefizz (which said that PSU was eliminated a week ago):

I-Team: Ishaq Williams Rules Out Miami, Penn State Sounds Like Favorite : Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News, Sports Rumors, Podcasts

Personally, as I've been saying for a week now, I think that Ishaq has been PSU for some time (the on-line directory -- despite everyone's arguments to the contrary -- is too much compelling evidence). But, he got cold feet on Sat regarding something. Maybe it is the future of Larry Johnson.

My thoughts exactly. He really had me fooled with his apparent "lack of interest" in PSU for a bit there... but it seems more like he was a PSU lean and then wanted to see how 'Cuse and ND would measure up. I think we may still have a good shot at him though depending on how things shake out.

Is he worried about Larry Johnson leaving potentially with Bradley or becoming the DC instead of being his DL coach?

The flip side no one is talking about:

What if he liked LJ but did not like Bradley... so IF Bradley gets the job that puts PSU in the lead? Is that possible? I think there are a lot of permutations here and the longer this takes to play out the better. Especially if we land Lynch in the meantime.

Very plausible ..... I had not thought of that scenario. I guess I have a little more hope now then I did before.

I don't understand why anyone would ever want to play at State Penn. Even with their consistently weak schedule each year, they are middle of the pack Big Ten.

Is it possible that the situation that is holding up his announcement isn't the PSU coaching but rather whether or not Aaron is committing to ND?

it's possible sure... though that is highly unlikely... moreso just a cherry on top thing at this point

Damn, this has been discussed like a millions times on this thread already!!!

Ishaq is a 3-4 rushhbacker. Lynch is a 3-4 defensive end. Different positions.

In a 3-4, a Weakside DE basically becomes an OLB, and a Strongside DE becomes a 3-4 Defensive End

Ishaq is a 3-4 OLB, and Tuitt is a 3-4 DE

Can we change the thread title to OLB, it is getting annoying constantly having to tell people what position he will play at ND if he chooses to attend.

They don't play the same friggin' position.

For the last time! Williams will play OLB, not DE.
he's an OLB in our system.

Seriously, can we put that idea about Lynch having something to do with Ishaq's decision to bed yet?

The DE v OLB & 4/3 v 3/4 non-issues aside, if William's wants to play in a dominating defense with a shot at an NC, Lynch joining Tuitt, Te'o, etc, might well influence William's decision to become a part of that group.

The Recruiting commitment stampede taking place at Auburn right now isn't due to their poor graduation rate (for any race) or high ranking on the NCAA's list of Most Year's On Probation.

Auburn is going to crash and burn soon, not only because of Cam Newton, but because Gene Chizik is a poor coach and their recruiting tactics are filthy.

I really believe that him waiting to announce helps us more than anything, although, I also think that we're hanging on by a thread with Ishaq. All the signs are pointing to Penn State, imo. I'm not sure if Lynch is helping our chances of landing him or hurting them. It really seems like he is not as flambouyant as Lynch and Tuitt, seems much more mild mannered.

This leads me to believe he's going to Penn St, but if we get Lynch, can't be too upset.

I'm well aware that they don't play the same position. However, neither do Dwayne Wade, Lebron and Chris Bosh, and their signings all had to do with one another.

Perhaps Ishaq likes the idea of playing with Tuitt and Lynch like they did at the AAAB game? Perhaps he dislikes the idea because they don't get along?

I want this kid... who wouldnt want a 4/5* player? But we will not be crushed if he doesn't commit. We have three LB positions filled with Grace, Rabassa, and Counsel. If I am not mistaken, Rabassa and Counsel are both o/s backers in the 3-4 and so would Ishaq. Lets not forget Shembo, Moore, Spond and Manti/Carlo for a couple years as well. If we get Ishaq were are very well depthed in the LB position...if we don't we target some 4/5* LB's in the 2012 class.

I don't understand why Ishaq would be interested in PSU either. Simply put, ND is on the rise and PSU's program is declining.

What are the chances that Joe Pa retires during Ishaq's time if he chooses PSU? I'd say pretty good.

Hate to say it, but Joe Pa will be planted before he retires from coaching. He sees the writing on the wall. Look what happened to Bear Bryant and Woody Hayes. Both of them didn't hold on long after they quit coaching.

Exactly my thoughts. Why go to a school where a Coaching change in inevitable at some point and the rebuilding would only begin. ND is already past a HUGE year in rebuilding and is way on the rise.

I think Ishaq is waiting to see whether or not BGIF gets banned before he commits.
