That would be awesome. I would love to see ND vs Georgia and would help us with recruiting in the south.

The previous AD scheduled a home/home with Oregon and a 3 game series with Louisville. When this new one took over he cancelled them because of the "economy"

I don't think it will happen. Swarbick has been saying that he wants to schedule "similar" schools to Notre Dame. That means Michigan, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Navy, BC, Purdue, etc. Yeah, we'll play the occasional USF or someone like that but I can't see us going out of our way to schedule any SEC besides Vandy. But maybe I'm wrong.

I hope you wrong too. I wouldn't mind see us playing a Georgia, Tennessee or Alabama type school on a semi regular basis. SEC plays some good football so I think we should play a school from that conference every now and then.

What about Texas, Oklahoma, BYU, Miami...... I'm sure you can make an argument that these schools are "similar" to Notre Dame, but my list sure looks different from yours.

Notre Dame has been on a tear lately scheduling powerhouses, I don't see why this can't/won't be done.

Georgia would be a great match-up. That being said, our schedule is freakin' beefy as is!

Maybe we lighten up by 2014? Doubtful...

Meh...
the difference between UGA and Georgia Tech is slight... if anything. And since we actually have a history with GT, I'd rather play them.

If the SEC takes off the skirts and wants to play big boys during the regular season again, I hope to see Tennessee or Florida.

BYU is extremely similar, Miami is closer to ND than most think, Texas is a LOT better as a school than the majority of SEC schools. Oklahoma is the only one that doesn't really fit the bill, and we only play them once, right?

I'm just echoing what Swarbick voiced and what was voiced at the Yankee Stadium game. Whether it pans out remains to be seen.

I wish we could schedule Tennessee again, that was the easiest way for me to get to watch the Irish. But any sec school would be nice just so we can shut the sec up

Ga has backed out before. I doubt that they want another tough game on their sked. Just like Ohio State, they want a bunch of P....ys to pump up their record.
I would like to see them play us in an home and home, but it will never happen since we are getting better and aren't a pushover anymore.

Look, I'm the only Irish fan in a family of 7 Buckeye fans. I've taken a BUNCH of $hit, the last decade or so, about ND football. And I understand how obnoxious Buckeye fans can be, but the notion that tOSU is ducking good competition is just not true. Since 2005, tOSU has played Texas (2x), USC (2x), and Miami(FL). I know that they play a couple of MAC schools every year, but that's a commitment that the Big 10 Conference made with the MAC, and then handed down the schedule to their teams. It's not like tOSU went and sought out MAC schools to play, to soften their schedule.

Screw adding more tough games to our already unbelievable schedules of the future. If anything we need to soften up a few games.

Ohio State only scheduled those schools because of the BCS. Their schedule was so weak it really hurt their chances so to improve the chance of making a BCS bowl, they improved the schedule by adding one strong game.

You have got to be kidding.... Auburn beat 5 teams ranked in the top 20 this year. Alabama beat 6 teams last year in the top 20 including an out of conf game against Va Tech to win the NC. Florida beat 6 teams in the top 25 in '08 including Miami, Fla St. If you look at the SEC top to bottom, every game is a tough game. How can you blame these teams for playing some weak out of conference games, based on the conference they are in. ND has 1 win against a top 25 team in the last 3 years (USC was unranked this year). Also, I don't think GA would back out of playing us either. We all are huge ND fans, but let's be realistic. We would get murdered in the SEC. I think we are years away from anyone calling us "big boys" or intimidating any team from the SEC especially the likes of Fla, Ga, or Tenn.

I actually give Ohio State credit. They usually schedule one strong non-conf game a year ie: USC, Texas, Miami. the rest of their schedule are Patsy's, but last year they had USC and Navy on their schedule not bad. If you want to target a Big Ten for weak schedule look at Wisconsin.

You are right. The SEC is no joke and they play pretty darned good football. I would love ND to play an SEC team every year, I prefer Tennessee as I live here, but would like to play a Georgia, Alabama or Florida occasionally. It would give us more visibility down south in regards to recruiting as well.

I agree we usually play the top teams in every conference. Now with Big 12 (Okla) and Acc (Miami) to go along with everyone else. I would like to see the Georgia game, since I live in Atlanta and work with a bunch of Dawg fans. And you are right, it would be great for recruiting...As long as we win. The Wake game will get us exposure in the Carolinas, but we gotta get into the Atlanta market and Fla market. I was at the Tech game here in '06 and it was great. TONS of Irish fans!

Seriously, have you looked at tOSU's schedules for the last 15-20 years, or are you just speculating?

In the late 80s and early 90s, tOSU scheduled the likes of:

Pitt
Colorado
Alabama
LSU
BC
Ok St.
USC

I'm not saying that tOSU has played a murderer's row type schedule for decades, but they aren't ducking playing good teams, and never have. And keep in mind, they scheduled these teams while playing in the Big Ten, when the Big Ten was incredibly strong year after year. I still hate obnoxious tOSU fans, but I remain objective about the program. It is a quality program, and it has been for decades.

Get your panties out of a knot - I was referring to their OOC schedules...
