The SEC is holding on by its fingertips while the Big 10 seems poised to grasp control of football superiority. What do you think?

I would agree with that.

Ohio State will be elite as long as Tressel is around.

Wisconsin is at a higher level than what Barry Alvarez accomplished.

Michigan State finally has a coach and will be very good.

Nebraska will be incredible.

Iowa, with Ferentz, will always be the darkhorse.

Penn State was rebuilding this year, they will be back.

Michigan is incomplete but if they give Rodriguez enough time he will have Auburn-north campus going on in Ann Arbor. The Big Ten won't know what to do.

Northwestern's coach gets an A+ from me. The will trip some people up.

Very, very good conference in my opinion.

Thats a debate tough to dabble in . athletes are always going to be the main argument. also strength of schedule. in saying that whens the last time the big ten had a dominate team. most of them are the middle of the road at best and they always seem to beat each other. not saying sec teams dont beat on each other. but usually when one of them runs the table. they run the whole table. while big ten teams rarely come out unbeaten. final results (bowl games) down lie. but i would like to see more big ten vs. sec match-ups. just think big ten would loose a ton of mojo

Hopefully it shifts to Nothern Indiana

I agree. I hope it begins to lean towards the Big 10. I thin that when Kelly has his players ND's offense will run circles around big 10 teams defenses. And, if our defense continues improving...watch out.

If OSU beats Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl forget about. SEC will be done

I don't know about that... they have the lowest Academic Standards (sans Vandy) for Football players and as we learned with Cam Newton literally pay their players. I have a feeling that top notch kids will still love the idea of not going to class, and beginning professional careers a couple years early.

you realize 75% of all elite talent comes from SEC country, yes?

While Texas and California may seem "SECish"... they are not SEC country. Florida is a split personality at best, it's SEC country when the Ol ball coach or Urban are at their best, but trending ACC. So really, I'd guess its closer to 20% of elite talent comes from pure SEC states, bump it up to 30-40% if you want to keep Florida in.

The real interesting tidbit is that 100% of elite talent comes from ND country.

i will say theres a 9-3 team in the sec that will beat anyone in the big ten. and if they can "roll". what does that say about the teams that beat them. comparing apples to moldy oranges.

here is the top 150--- you decide---and when i said SEC country, i meant "southern states" (sorry for the miscommunication)

2011 College Football Recruiting - Top 150 - ESPNU 150 - ESPN

eta: on real quick count, i tallied 80/150 from SEC states. add in TX and that number grows well over 100/150.

its no coincidence SEC schools are consistently rated higher than big ten schools in recruiting each year...as long as the talent is concentrated in one region, it will always be difficult for the big ten to compete at an sec level. ohio state is the only school who recruits with the lsu, floridas, and bamas.

yea but players in the south SEC country live and die by football soccer is still big in the Big ten states and as much as we dont want to admit it a lot of big ten fans have other things in their life other than football... football is a religion down there and that is atttractive to recruits... it is at ND too but the rest of the big ten has a life recruits will stay in the SEC and there will always be talent and good coaches down there

My feeling is that people give the SEC too much credit. I think we all would agree that OSU and Florida have been the best in their conference since they got their current coaches. Yet OSU under Tressel has record of 105 - 22 where as Florida is 64 - 15 under Meyer. To me they don't compare. Sure you could say that NC's are the only thing that matter. I just think this is the last year that the SEC will have a legit shot at one for a while.

with the sec its almost like you'll see a rotation down there with bcs contention. florida. alabama. auburn. and then theres lsu. could possibly be the next in line next year. but didnt they start the rotation first feels like a vicious cycle until the irish come calling.

I've lived down here for 6 years now and let me tell you these people value baseball just as much as football. In fact I can't say that people down in Florida cherish football over people in Ohio where I grew up. Infact, Florida is a state with a number of football pockets where the talent is very good. once you're out of those pockets. It's not really impressive.

Florida is a come lately in football. Also a large portion of the citizens come from the North, especially the East Coast.
The other SEC states, not so much, and the traditions go back four or five generations (except in Arkansas and Kentucky where there are nine or ten generations per century).
When the SEC decided to recruit black players, they became real players in national football.
If a kid doesn't care about school and wants an early paycheck, it's the way to go.

Exactly! So to say people lived and die by football down here would be incorrect. It's kinda like saying 75% of the top football players in the country come from SEC country.

You were the one who said 75% of elite football players come from SEC country. How much recruiting do you follow? Also, no need for personal attacks. Yes, I'm in the Air Force and was having fun at work with that pic, but what does that have to do with football Rocket?

Once again, Florida can hardly be said to be pure SEC country.

Wisconsin needed an extra point to beat ASU and Iowa lost to Arizona.
I think the Big 10 is either the third or fourth best conference.

I put them something like this, with the number ratings giving an idea of how close the ranks are:

1. SEC 10
2. Pac 10 9
3. Big 10 7
4. Big 12 6.8
5. WAC 3.2
6. MWC 2
7. Big East 1
8. ACC 0.9

Basically the Big East and the ACC are garbage.

And Urban leaves the SEC, another block from the wobbly tower of Jenga
