Well, now he has said to scratch that top 7 he recently gave out and that everyone is even. He's been hitting the camp scene pretty hard, and has already camped at places like WVU and NC, and will go to Cal, USC and UCLA next week. On the ND front, in the Scout article I just read, he mentioned SEVERAL school he was interested in, and then listed a whole bunch of schools that offered (including Akron and Indiana???), and not once was Notre Dame mentioned in the article. Now, I knew we weren't going to get him, but to mention Indiana and Akron and NOT ND? Ouch!

It's all good though...we obviously just didn't fit for him, which happens. He's looking for 3 main things in a school: a good, stable coaching staff, the ability to play as a true freshman (he mentioned that a lot - "and not just special teams - DB"), and athletic atmosphere.

I will give him credit for one thing though - even though he is going to camp at SC, he says he can't really envision himself being a Trojan because of the sanctions (esp b/c he wants to play a bowl game as a true freshman). He said he'd have to talk to the coaches to see if they could convince him that it's not that bad, which you know they will try to do. But he just doesn't sound that happy to be Trogan with those sanctions looming over their heads, so at least he won't be a Trogan...

From Bill Kurelic at espn

Michigan State gets the first shot at Under Armour All-American defensive back Doran Grant (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary), who will be in East Lansing for an official visit to Michigan State the weekend of Dec. 4.

Grant's official visit to Michigan State is the only one he has scheduled, but he is going to schedule at least three more.

"I'll be setting up visits to Ohio State, Notre Dame and USC," Grant said. "I'm pretty sure I'll take a fifth visit. That would be to Michigan, Penn State or Iowa."

The Irish offered Grant a scholarship long ago, but for many weeks he had been saying he had narrowed his list of over two dozen offers down to eight schools with Georgia Tech on the list, but not Notre Dame.

"Georgia Tech is out now," Grant said on Monday night. "Notre Dame came in and started talking to me again. Since my --- year I've loved Notre Dame. I want to check them out and see what the new coaching staff is all about with coach [Brian] Kelly."

One thing that has not changed would be the two schools at the top of Grant's list.

"Ohio State and Michigan State are still my top two," Grant said.

Interesting. Still think picks O$U

Interesting indeed. Like always, if he does visit we have a chance.

Wow that's a big surprise, this is the best news we have heard in recruiting in a while. Get him on campus, that's the most we can ask.

At the very least this shows that our coaching staff is able to get the ear of big time recruits. We've got a long way to go with Grant, but I think this is an indicator of the recruiting abilities of Kelly's staff. It's reassuring after the events of the last 2 weeks.

Interesting... from his comments it seems like we cooled on him before he cooled on us... and then we started pursuing him again? I'm not holding my breath but this is certainly a fascinating development.

I'm trying to not get too excited about this but this could be big. Definitely do not want to see this kid playing at Michigan State either, so it would be a double bonus to get him to ND.

Seems like a longshot, but this would be a huge get. I'm quite concerned about the depth in our defensive backfield, and this is someone who could come in and start and the nickel back as a freshman.

Hey he went to the same high school as Lebron! Lebron spurned Cleveland so maybe Doran will spurn the Buckeyes....I know i know, it is an extremely far fetched comparison, but you never know!!!!

Doran Grant a 5-11 185 Cornbackback/Athlete was named the Akron Beacon Joural Player of the Year. There is a full page article telling his story.

Ohio.com - St. V-M's Grant looks ahead

Funny story...i coached against this kid when he was a freshman and when he got off the bus i couldnt believe my eyes... at 14 he looked like a 22 year old athlete. i had a bunch of average frosh so i made my team go right into the locker room so they wouldnt see him(and about 10 other kids just like him) untill right before the game. we gave a hell of a pregame rant and had a chance to win it late unfortunately we fumbled the exchange on a qb sneak from the 1 to lose. anyways, this kid is the real deal!

ISD had some articles on him yesterday too

Hey, sorry. I forget all that was in the articles. But essentially we have been/are in contact with him for the last month. He put us in his Top 5, along with Ohio State, Michigan State, USC, and I couldn't find the fifth. We are for sure (as of now) getting a visit.

Bottom line: We are for sure a player - especially if he visits.

According to Scout.com, Doran does not have an offer from ND.

Is this right?

Is he planning on visiting at any point? Would love to get this kid on campus and maybe make a push for him.

Hello I am Doran Grant's cousin and I am an Irish fan. I really want him to take a visit to Southbend. I don't know if it is going to happen but I am trying put my two cents in and convince him to take a visit. I am also a teacher at future Safety/Corner (although I think he will be a better safety) Eilar Hardy's school. Go Irish

Lol, I never had him in class. I never told him I was a Notre Dame fan until this year when we came back from the summer break and he was committed. I talked to him before he started taking visits and told him to take them all and enjoy the process. I told him to see places that you wouldn't have normally seen. When I saw him at the beginning of this school year, I told him how excited I was that he committed to ND. He had on a Notre Dame sweatshirt either Monday or Tuesday this week and I had one on Wednesday for a dress down day and he said"I like that sweatshirt." He's a great kid and I'm glad he's going to be a Golden Domer, now if I could get my cousin Doran to commit, then we'd really have something going.

I would be suprised if Doran ends up anywhere other than Ohio State. I know Michigan State is very much in the mix but outside those two, I dont see much of a chance for anyone else. IF he visits again, then I guess we can go from there.

Yeah it's pretty much down to MSU and OSU. Don't sleep on MSU, he had a great visit there and my uncle(his dad) played there. I just want him to see Notre Dame and if he decides to come to ND for a visit, I will try to be on the visit with him. The kid is smart and he is a student of the game. If he doesn't come to ND then I would love for him to go to OSU. He would be close to family down there(me) so if he needed anything he could ask me and not others. I just want him to go to school and graduate.

Much rather see him go to osu as well, wouldn't have to play him four times. Kid's a stud and would help us out right away if we're lucky enough to steal him away.
