I hate to say it... but I think the only reason Cam isn't a 4* ATH with a sick offer list is that he is a short-ish white RB. It's the same reason Toby Gerhart was a 3* unranked RB even though he ran a sub-4.5 with incredible power and size.
I think this is an absolute steal and one of those guys you look back on later and say "how did so many people miss this guy?" Every class has a couple... whether it's a 0* Cody Grimm who walks on to VT or 0* Clay Mathews at USC. Hats off to the coaching staff.

WOW!! Just got done watching this kid's 10 min. highlight film.. As mentioned in earlier threads, he is not a "burner" however is very quick and shifty. He also appears to have excellent vision. BEST OF ALL... He is not afraid to put his head down and smack people in the mouth! I'm with ya "IrishInFL"... Who cares about stars.. This kid plays HS ball outside of TX he's an easy 4 star back. Reminds me a lot of Tim Dwight. EXCELLENT pick up by the IRISH!!! Hell YES!!!!!!!! Keep 'em coming!!

This Kid is an RkG I see him replacing Justice probably playing slot or safety but man can he play football good kid... in my opinion more talented version of Austin Collinsworth... basically player with a lot of heart and hustle and I love him cause he is from Texas... Congrats Cam

Like I said before, the only reason he is not a 4* is because he is a small-ish white RB. Hate to play the race card, but yes the white part matters. If he was black he would probably be a 4* ATH with people talking about him having potential at DB/RB/WR.
For reference, Toby Gerhart was barely a 3*... wasn't even a top fullback recruit much less a high RB recruit... and he ran a "sub-4.5" 40 with a ton of strength and power. If you don't fit what the billet of what the recruiting service are looking for then your star rating suffers. I think this is an absolute steal and McDaniel is the kind of guy who will give defenses nightmares in a couple years. He is probably going to be a better version of Danny Woodhead who is playing for the Patriots now. A Percy Harvin-esque back who is ideal for 3rd down, can line up in the backfield to start and then split out wide, and has the shiftiness to be effective in both the running and passing game at all times.
If we get Amir Carlisle we will officially have three guys with that make-you-miss big play potential... along with Davaris Daniels who I think will be a stud WR in the spread... and if we land Savon we will also have a powerful downhill runner. I cannot wait for 2012.
rivals mentioned it is likely he will get a 4th star at their next update

The only true downside I see here is his highlights look more like 4.7 speed than 4.5 speed to me. Great balance, great vision, good first step through the hole... definitely has the frame where time in the weight room will improve his top end speed.

He is playing 5A Texas football. Maybe he doesn't look as fast, because some of the guys he plays against are fast too. Just a thought. Personally I think he's got good speed.

Yeah, that's a good point. And the truth is you can teach speed a lot easier than you can teach qualities like balance and vision. Even if pundits who have never run track tell you that it's impossible.
