If he truly wants to play both sports he has a much better shot at doing so at ND than at UNC. He is a 2* prospect and the #62 point guard. UNC consistently recruits top 10 talent each year at the guard positions.

I agree with you. UNC has a very good basketball program and he would have a VERY difficult time making the team I think. I'm not saying he couldn't.., but realistically if he wants to play both sports, then he stands a much better shot at doing so at ND. UNC brings in some of the top talent in the nation when it comes to their basketball program.

It will be difficult for him to play 2 sports at both schools especially if he wants to play quarterback. Being a QB involves putting a lot of extra time in film and such. Nothing is impossible, but it is a hard task.

Correct, and the seasons overlap a lot if you go bowling. But no matter what way you slice it he would have a much better chance at playing basketball here than for the Tarheels.

He is a football first Kid, and a really good talent at that. He would be a 5 star if he was taller. The 2 sport thing is basically he would be 100% football, and practice with the Basketball team. - Information from IrishIllustrated Podcast last week.

Is he a standard age high school senior (i.e. 17) or was he held back a year? Maybe he will still grow a bit?

His breakdown on Scout sounds really promising, if the only thing holding this kid back is his height that's not a big deal - he's hardly a midget and it's not like Tommy is a giant or anything.

New Freebie on ISD about Golson and his visit. He is down to just UNC and ND.

Golson Focusing On UNC, ND
Written by Christian McCollum Tuesday, 16 November 2010 14:11

Golson plans to decide in the coming weeks.Myrtle Beach, S.C., quarterback Everett Golson returned from his official visit to Notre Dame on Monday and told his Myrtle Beach High School football coach Mickey Wilson that he had a very good time.

“He had a great visit, enjoyed himself and really came away impressed,” said Wilson, who talked to Golson on Monday. “He watched the basketball game. Of course, they went to the football game and visited all of the football facilities. He just had a good time.”

The 6-foot, 170-pound Golson is verbally committed to North Carolina to play both football and basketball and it’s an option in South Bend as well after meeting Irish men’s basketball coach Mike Brey.

“He had a good conversation with Coach Brey,” Wilson said. “If he decides to go to Notre Dame, that’s something that’s available to him.”

Golson has also been approved for early enrollment at Notre Dame and felt good about his meetings with Brian Kelly and the Irish offensive staff.

“He met with Coach Kelly, Coach Alford and Coach Molnar,” said Wilson. “He said it was great and he really likes those guys.”

Wilson does believe Golson would be a good fit in Kelly’s offense.

“They’re pretty similar to what we do as far as being in the shotgun and throwing the ball around,” he said. “He has the chance to be creative and make things happen in that offense. That’s a strength of his and I think if he was to go to Notre Dame, it would be a good fit from a football standpoint.”

Since he plans to enroll early, Golson would likely have the chance to compete for the starting quarterback job in the spring.

“You would like to think so, of course you never know with a freshman coming in how that would play out,” said Wilson. “I think he is good enough to come in and compete right away.”

The NCAA investigation into North Carolina led to Golson looking around at other schools, including Notre Dame, Clemson and Tennessee, but it appears to be down to the Tar Heels and Irish at this point.

“I think it’s fair to say that. I think that’s probably where we’re at,” said Wilson, who added there are no plans for Golson to take any more visits.

Myrtle Beach resumes postseason play with a third-round game against Berkeley High School Friday night. Whenever football season ends, basketball season will begin with Golson expected to make a decision within that timeframe.

“He’s going to take a couple weeks here to digest the visit,” Wilson said. “We’ll still keep our eye on what’s going on with North Carolina and at that point, he’ll make a decision.”

With no NCAA ruling imminent and Golson expected to enroll early, it’s likely he could be making a decision without knowledge of the penalties enforced against North Carolina.

“It’s just tough to tell,” said Wilson. “You never what the NCAA is going to do. We’ll just keep our ears to the ground and see what’s going to happen.”

Ok... So Kelly is fine with him playing basketball too?

Because It was from my understanding that Kelly didn't let Bubba Starling play baseball.

Any clarification on this?

No, he didn't want Starling if he wouldn't be fully committed to the university, that meaning leave school after one year for the MLB.

Someone needs to provide a link on that. I don't remember Kelly saying he couldn't play baseball, that would quite the contradiction seeing as playing point guard is way more physically and mentally challenging than pitching every five days... although maybe concerned with bubba's arm.

Wait, I don't understand how he could play basketball at the college level? He's only 6'0 tall.

i dont want to be a hater but 6 foot is kind of short for a quarterback.... it matters less in the spread but who knows

I think height is very overrated. If some one has heart and the ablilities to play. I'd take him.

Nate Robinson( 5'6) Rajon Rondo( 6'1) Chris Paul(6'0) Jameer Nelson (6'0)

Anyways the point is some what made, when it comes to basketball and height. When it comes to QB's just look at Drew Brees(6'0) Vick(6'0)
Plus many others in college football

I by no means am comparing him to those athletes but it just shows anything is possible.

Vick - 6'0"

Especially fitting after last night, but unless the kid can throw 65 yards on a rope like Vick did on the first play last night, the comparison is hardly apt. Still, I'm not overly concerned about his height, Drew Brees is short too and the standard NFL QB is expected to be a barely mobile lumbering giant capable of seeing over 6'7 lineman. That's not what we need - look at how often we throw on the run. Tommy is doing fine and if he's 6'2 I'm 6'6.

Would it be better if he was a little taller? Sure. But he's a kid, he's probably still growing, and I like his highlight tape.

As a KU and ND fan I had the pleasure of watching Todd Reesing destroy teams from a college spread offense and he was listed at 5'10", but he's about 5'8" max.

Nice article on ISD about him. He's going to announce in the next few weeks for either UNC or ND, (possibly Clemson). For the most part he said it's down to NC and us. I'd like to see him run this offense.
