Really happy to hear the Vols picked this kid up. Their program is even in worse shape than ours. Lane Kiffin left that program in shambles and to see their struggles on the field and in recruiting; they have my sympathy.

I just read somewhere that this kid might not be going to Tennessee. Apparently he was messing with several colleges and saying he would commit to them.

He had a video posted on his twitter before the announcement with him committing to all 5 schools (including western michigan). It was a big joke to see how many people would watch it. He admitted it was a joke.

Unless something new has happened since then, we'll see if anything changes between now and NSD

What is the matter with Western Michigan? I hope he goes to my university and breaks all sorts of Greg Jennings records.

nothing is "wrong" with western michigan. ask deanthony why it was so funny to fake committing to them against the likes of tenn, usc, msu, and michigan haha

I hope they all pull their offers. That's a bush-league and immature move, the coaches should all agree to make him go through a year of junior college for it.

For those who care about such matters, when Coach Cubit was hired at WMU he said that he realized that he couldn't compete with the power programs in widescale recruiting, but he and his staff had to make heavy efforts at convincing about three blue-chippers a year to enroll. They had to be very selective in their targets, and use pre-established relationships, local Michigan talent, and the impressive appearance of the campus as a good atmosphere [like ND, WMU has markedly increased success in getting signees if they can get them to see the campus]. That someone like Arnett would be considering WMU is not really an obvious joke. They have put guys into the pros [other than just Greg Jennings] and one of Detroit's two top picks last season was WMUs safety.

Source: WR DeAnthony Arnett seeking release from scholarship

Tennessee wide receiver DeAnthony Arnett, who compiled the second-most receptions by a freshman in program history this past season, has asked for a release from his scholarship, a source close to Arnett confirmed to the News Sentinel late Wednesday.

Arnett’s father has battled health issues and his conditioned has not improved since Arnett enrolled at UT, according to the source, which requested anonymity because the release process is ongoing.

UT officials could not be reached for comment.

A highly touted slot receiver from Saginaw, Mich., Arnett was third on the Vols with 24 receptions, fourth with 242 yards and was one of three players to catch two touchdowns. Arnett’s breakout performance came three weeks into the season against Florida, when he led the Vols with eight receptions for 59 yards. Two weeks later, he caught two touchdown passes in UT’s rout of Buffalo.

Arnett saw action in all 12 games and picked up his first career start in November at Arkansas.

His potential departure throws adds even more ambiguity to what UT has at wide receiver in 2012. Star wideout Justin Hunter continues to rehabilitate from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The Vols’ leading receiver in 2011, Da’Rick Rogers, had his status with the program come into question earlier this month, though coach Derek Dooley strongly denied multiple reports that Rogers had been suspended.

UT has four wide receivers — Drae Bowles (Jackson), Jason Croom (Norcross, Ga.), Alton Howard (Orlando, Fla.) and Keithon Redding (Decatur, Ga.) — committed for the class of 2012 and has relentlessly pursued top-rated junior-college prospect Cordarrelle Patterson (Hutchinson, Kan.).

Other sites are reporting that he may transfer to be closer to home. I figure Michigan is out because of overload of receivers. Maybe between us and Michigan St if he transfers?

~ Btw, my first post even though I have been reading this board for 2 years now. Glad to be a member!

SpartanTailgate reported that Arnett informed Tennessee coach Derek Dooley he would transfer and added that he will be “exploring his options.” Those options include Michigan State, Michigan and Notre Dame.

That article was updated to include this

Is ND even a legit possibility (grades, scholarship numbers, etc), or is that just "a hat on the table" reference?

I have no idea, I would assume the grades wouldn't be an issue since he had an offer originally. Could be wrong though.

Isn't he tight with Justice Hayes? Also he has been tweeting with Shane Morris the last couple of days.

He didn't want to go to UM initially because he didn't like RichRod's spread I thought.

Regardless if I had to bet I would say MSU like the rumors suggest.

Arnett's original recruitment was a circus. He was a twitter fiend, and would have a new #1 after every visit. He was ALL ABOUT the Trogans, then suddenly was off them and on to a new school. Everyone thought he'd be a trogan, then we all thought he'd be a Spartan, and the Tennessee thing came seemingly out of the blue. And his announcement was the ultimate hat game/look at me performance. Always left a bad taste in my mouth.

Hopefully his dad gets better, and Arnett picks the right school for him. As others have mentioned, he'll probably go to MSU...

Ha that was suppose to say RichRods "spread" not "thread."

I also despise Shane Morris.

^This...I think it was the 7 on 7 in Orlando that Morris was in and he acted like a total douche. He was calling out players all the time and had a douche demeanor.

Yes it was Gridiron Kings. He acted like an asshat. He is indeed the douchiest douchebag in all of Douchebagville.
