Florida Recruits

Is it just me or are recruits from that state just completely overrated? I just looked around the NFL and NCAA to kids I played with in high school (e.g. Cody Grimm, Evan Royster and Keith Payne from my VA lax days) and they were all 3 star or no star recruits having great careers.

Royster was a 3 star recruit, #26 RB overall... despite being strong as an ox, dominating HS football and running a 4.4 40. He just set PSU's all-time rushing record and is projected as a first or second round pick.

Cody Grimm was a 0 star recruit who is now a starting safety in the NFL.

Keith Payne was a 3 star athlete despite running a 4.4 40 at 6'2" 215 lbs.

Especially looking at the measureables for Payne and Royster... it is clear to me that if they played in Florida, Cali or Texas they would've been ranked an awful lot higher. Why do recruiting services favor the Sunshine State so much?

I am going to go with because those states have better talent all around. I am from Missouri whhere its easy to go 3 or 4 weeks without playing any sort of talent. So if your a D1 caliber athlete you easily dominate those weeks. In Florida, Texas and Cali you usually dont have that. So when a player rushes for 1300 yards, picks off 8 passes, makes 120 tackles or 15 sacks (all just figures im throwing out there) in a season in one of the big 3 over other states they get rated higher. Just my take.

This is a non-fact, but maybe someone actually knows: some areas of some states have an "athletic culture" [using that term very loosely] which is very much more intense [starting very young] than others. My brother, the weight-lifting Olympic coach in Houston, tells me that not only is Texas a semi-crazed football culture, but has become a semi-crazed weight-lifting culture [not aimed a real weight-lifting competition but at succeeding in college athletics and generally being able to knock other people's blocks off.] Areas with such "cultures" are going to be breeding grounds for division-1 athletes in both power and speed.

They are checking out UF this upcoming weekend together.

I'm sure it is down to these two. Me personally, I don't care about these two anymore and won't lose anymore sleep about it. Hope they make the choice that is best for them.

it makes sense..they went to HS together, decommitted from ND together, and will go to UF together(visit), and will committ(again) together. I dont want to say i called my shot when Prestwood de-committed, but i called my shot (in a PM to Terry Tate). they are both going to committ to the same school, and that is going to UF.

This is pure speculation, but I bet UF tried to get Lynch directly and wasnt successful. UF did get to Prestwood, who decommitted from ND first. then prestwood focused on getting lynch to decommitt, and was able to do so (where UF couldnt). I would be absolutely shocked if lynch doesnt follow Prestwood wherever he goes. They are a package deal, with Prestwood being the alpha-male.

Who cares about these 2 kids. They are both not considering us anymore. They don't want to be here, we don't want them. There are still plenty of talent left on the board. Let's move on.

I actually think they both end up at FSU.

Prestwood, as far as we know, is still planning on making an official to ND for the banquet. So that's not true

check the date of that article, it is irrelevant now.

CBS has him at 4-5 round and it does not even include juniors or redshirt sophomores. Add Ingram, Clay, and Vareen and his position drops even more.

Evan Royster, Penn State, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com

And here's one from Oct 26th (the height of PSU suck this year) that has him as a 2nd rounder.

Evan Royster Scouting Report - 2011 NFL Draft Prospect

There are plenty more like this article. But it sounds like you're pretty confident so I'll tell you what... why don't you put your money where your mouth is and I'll bet you any amount of vBucks at 5:1 odds that he is drafted before round 5.

I stand corrected

Sitting or laying down works well too.

(Laying down is especially fine if she is wearing lace and leather.)

How about you quit this site if he is not a 2nd round pick? I could care less about vbucks.

He will be coming here just so that he can say that he has been on campus. And thats it.

I honestly don't see him coming to campus period. I think at this point it would be fruitless and a waste of time seeing how he dropped us off completely.

Patrick Patterson is laughing at this question. Evan Royster is not a 1st or 2nd round pick.

For what it's worth, Patrick Patterson plays basketball. Patrick Peterson plays cornerback for LSU... who I'm guessing you meant to refer to.

Right... because that was the mature and logical response to me making a friendly wager with vBucks as many do on this site.

I'm really curious who the heck is giving a tool like you positive reps. Such is the internet.
