First of all, this conversation shouldn't be in a recruit's thread, though it makes a lot of sense that it is. Maybe a mod can move it? Second of all, it doesn't matter if we have 50 special teamers on scholarship, Ruffer deserves one.

agreed, i don't care who has a scholarship or who doesn't have one, but Ruffer definitely deserves one.

But regarding prestwood, when someone just flatout decommits, i would venture to say he is gone. If he stayed committed and just wanted to visit other places, i would say he would stay a ND commit.

But since he decommitted, it leaves little hope and best of luck to the kid. It's his life, he may choose any path he would like. We are merely fans, where as this is his life.

It will be interesting how BK handles a De-Commit...as well as someone committed that take visits...I remember Charile stance was "if you are looking so are we..."

I think it's already pretty evident that BK and staff are looking elsewhere. That most likely explains the very late offer extended to the young Martin brother. Obviously, the staff had received some word of the de-commit before it went public. Kelly seems to be a true professional and will handle it the way he needs to while looking out for the interest of his recruits and the university.

According to ISD he is visiting UF and FSU and then ND in December with Lynch. His HS coach , who really thinks he should go to ND, is trying to move his ND visit up before he goes to FSU. Sounds pretty promising....

Eh, if he doesn't want to be there, let him go. He may want to wait until signing day to announce, but Kelly shouldn't. If they can get another o-lineman to fill his spot, and there's no spot for him come signing day, that'll make his decision easier. To borrow a phrase from Weis, "If they're looking, we're looking."

If he chooses to go to one of the Florida schools, I wish him well. But at the same time, he has no business getting offended if the Irish fill his spot w/ someone who wants to be there.

No, they had no idea.

I love it when Alice posts insider info. I just hope she doesn't start her own web site and make me pay for this info.

Kelly still has some wiggle room on this. The young man says he'll visit here but not make an announcement till NSD. That doesn't mean that he would not tell Kelly at visit time so as to hold the spot and still give the young man his NSD moment. Not saying that this is; just saying that it's possible. We have very few prospects as impressive as Jordan Prestwood and everyone here should really want him to come.

Yea, he sounds like a pretty honest kid. Personally, I respect the fact that he decommitted now, thus possibly risking his spot, instead of pulling a surprise switch near the end. This leads me to believe he's not interested in screwing ND over, and if he tells Kelly something Kelly can count on it.

We definitely could use him. And he definitely would do best to think long and hard about his future: ND offers a complete package that few other schools can come close to.

Am I the only one who really does not mind if a kid backs out?

I know ND has been burned in the past but I would much rather have a kid back out before NSD than leave after the class is locked up and he gets to school.

It is not like in the past where this happened in the last week or last hour...Coach and Co. have months to fill this spot if Jordan does not want it.

Also, the comments about not wishing this kid well are pretty pathetic. He is a kid and moving from Florida to South Bend is a huge move.

We do not know what the income levels of his parents are and if they will be able to see many games. Heck, Ian Williams in in his last year and it was just this season that his Grandmother (who raised him)was able to get to South Bend to see him play.

When I was growing up, playing in front of my family was a HUGE deal. I only played D-3 ball but went to a school just 40 miles away. We must think about these types of wants as well as education and what not.

I hope the best for Jordan. I hope he comes to ND because he is wanted and needed. But I simply hope he finds success, a great education and can make his family proud...wherever that is.

this happens in recruiting and it doesn't make him a bad kid. best of luck to Jordan and another space on the Irish train just opened up.

To young Mister Prestwood: Have a good life and a good career... Follow your heart, but come back to us if you can. Prestwood would be a fine name for a lad walking the path in Irishland.

Good Luck young man!!! I know that these can be difficult decisions. Take your time and councel with those you trust, parents, teachers and those you trust.

We will keep an IRISH helmet ready for you.

To all the folks posting here, I am glad to see that most have kept there thoughts classy. Thanks for that. These young KIDS, yes they are kids, are just going thru a tough decision process.

I can only think of 1 negative post...well done everyone!

Jordan, no hard feelikngs, we wish you well. We hope you'll return to the fold as well. My dad told me not to long before he died that "you make your bed and you lay in it" You have to think life, football and life after football. Good luck.

Go Irish!

Well, no matter what happens I wish the kid the best!

Best of luck to Jordan wherever he ends up.

Wait, should I don my tin foil hat and come up with a conspiracy about how someone stole him from us! ...

Regardless, I wish him well wherever he ends up. Hope you find what you're looking for young man.

I would prefer a kid make it official rather than secretly decommit, this is more honest imo. Like most of you, I believe we should cut these kids some slack, there is a lot going on in a 17 year old kid's life when he suddenly is part of the star making machinery that is college recruiting.

We will be good either way...would love to have him attend ND but wish him nothing but the best regardless.

Good luck kid! Here's hoping you make the right choice to make you happiest in life!

Man, that's a bummer. I was happy to have him in the Irish Nation. Good luck, hope he comes back. It would be nice to be part of the Irish Rebirth. Lynch, the twins, Tuitt, Justice, DD, Ben, Connor, Heg, etc are going to start something big.

Go Irish!

I wish this kid the best of luck. Not all kids are willing to move so far away from home. I think if he does decide in the end to come to Notre Dame he will be happy later in life that he did. But ND isn't for everyone either and hopefully he finds what he is looking for. Hoping the December visit with Aaron will maybe convince him the Irish is the place to be. I think we reserve a spot for him if he still wants it. Best of luck to him.

I was upset when I read the news this morning in the Tribune. I am not worrried at all, the headline didn't read he decommits and commits to Florida. Like Mrs. Lynch said, he is coming in December with Aaron, so we are still in the mix. Unlike others, like Martin, when he decommited he never made a visit did he?? Plus he was second to commit to this class, so let him look around, and in December hopefully he sees ND being the place he wants to be. Thank you for your posts Mrs. Lynch, as always they are great to read. Can't wait until January for you and Aaron to come to South Bend.

This happens every year, and every year we freak out. These 18 year old kids are trying to make the biggest decisions of their lives, and have way too many people in their ears. I hate it as much as anyone else....probrably more this year than the previous one because this class seemed to have more of a brotherhood type bond going on. I hope that Jordan makes the decision that is going to make him happy for his reasons.

If he chooses to go to one of the Florida schools, I wish him well.

Yea, he sounds like a pretty honest kid. Personally, I respect the fact that he decommitted now, thus possibly risking his spot, instead of pulling a surprise switch near the end.

So, to answer your question...

Am I the only one who really does not mind if a kid backs out?

In a word, no.

Wasn't Jordan an early enrollee? How does that track with waiting until National Signing Day? Wouldn't an early have been in class for about a month before NSD? Which brings up another question; doesn't being an early, allow the coaching staff to count the early against either year, before or after? And wouldn't it allow a coach to potentially have a greater (than 25) number of recruits, if overall scholarships were available?

I don't believe Prestwood was an EE. Also EE's are counted in the previous years class but we are already at the 85 max scholarships so that doesn't pertain to this class.

I don't mind either

I don't mind either

especially if they do it now instead of at the end of the recruiting cycle.

Man, it's hard to keep the kids from Florida huh?

They have so many people in their ears calling them traitors for leaving the state, and God forbid going to ND.

Remember when he told Jevon Snead that Tebow was a Linebacker

Or when he told Omar that his D-line coach would be Mattison(?)
Or when he told Trattou that he would play defensive end.

I believe he told Trattou he would play OLB.

I think it was a case of Trattou being told he would play DT at ND and if he went to Florida, he would play DE. Funny thing is he played DT for his first couple of years at Florida I think.

By the way, he is going to be a early graduate.

Re-reading the quote, I guess it says something different than what I saw the first time; I thought the inference was, "early enrollee."

My understanding was that an early enrollee could count for either class, and was at the discretion of the school. Now if say a majority of the potential fifth years would be not invited back, or if there was other attrition, say two or three, wouldn’t that make a difference?
