Some of the comments on the article are kind of amusing.
My personal "luck has abandoned us" moment was when Ryan Grant all of a sudden got fumbilitis against BC in Ty's first year.
*EDIT* As irish fans we have to have it one way or the other. We don't really have a good argument for both NC's. We either give ourselves the one in 89 or 93. Not both. If we give ourselves 89 or reasoning for 93 goes out the window. If we give ourselves 93 we can't make an argument for 89.
I think the point was that we get neither. And that different standards were applied (how much should head to head matter) each year, pretty much based on people not liking ND. At least, that's the ND version of the story.
That 1993 team is really the first Notre Dame season I can remember all of. I was in 3rd grade. I remember seeing games from past seasons specifically the 1991 Air Force game as well as many games that the Rocket played in; but 1993 was that first season I remember all of. I remember running around the streets after the FSU win, crying after the BC loss and then being shocked we didn't get at least a share of the NC.To IrishTimer: The 1993 year is seared in my memory for the "sociology" that soaked through everything that year. You are absolutely correct. I don't believe it would have made any difference who was the "other" team---sports media nation was going to get that championship for Bowden regardless. And, there seemed to be a groundswell of sympathy [don't ask me why] even among the coaches to have him get it. Man, the size of the smiles over the old bastard getting his championship just about made this Old Timer puke.
