Stanford: Keys to the Game

Offense:

- Establishing the run. Understandably, we didn't really have the situation to run against Michigan, but it seemed like we completely abandoned the run in the second half tonight. There is no way Dayne Crist should be throwing 55 times. No way.

- Continuing the efficiency in the passing game. Please don't sling it 55 times again. We need to maintain this rhythm in the passing game. Crist needs to keep playing well and the receivers need to keep up their consistency.

- Playing mistake-free football/No mental errors. We could be 3-0 with a comfortable win over Purdue, as well, if we stopped committing so many turnovers. It all starts with the Floyd fumble against Purdue, then the three interceptions against Michigan, and tonight the two fumbles and Crist's stupid pick. If we turn the ball over, it becomes that much harder.

Defense:

- Stop the run/Make Stanford one-dimensional. If we can stop the run, maybe we can force Luck to beat us with the pass. This could backfire.

- Wrap up. Poor tackling led to multiple MSU scores. This goes out to Te'o.

- Pressure Luck. Try and force some poor throws.

Expect a sense of urgency like never before next week. We're facing a 1-5 start if we don't win this upcoming game.

These are all very good points, but I see Stanford winning this game pretty easily.

I'll be looking to take the OVER in this game. I'd be amazed if the Cardinal didn't put up 40 - and the Irish should be close to that.

I think Stanford is much better than anyone we've faced yet. The key will be getting our receivers in sync with the plays on every down. They are still learning the system from what I've seen.

I have faith, i don't know what it is ND can play the worst team in American, and it will be a 3 point game.

then they can play the number one team in the country and it still be a 3 point game. every game always seems to keep me on the edge of my seat, and ND always seems to be in a position to win. But as of in recent years, they have been heartbreaking losses.

this is a very talented team, they just need to click, it just sucks with the first six games, it doesn't allow for many mistakes to be made or ND will pay for it

THIS! In the 2nd and 4th quarter especially, every single run play seemed like it was removed from the playbook. Armando was running well (5.5 yards a carry on 13 carries). And then when we do run it, its an option? After Crist just ran out of bounds instead of lowering his shoulder for the first? YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRR (that, by the way, was my biggest complaint with Kelly's coaching all game. 3rd and 2, he decided he was going to go for it, and instead of getting the yards simple he tries to trick his way to those 2 yards.)

I watched the Stanford game last night...they are for real....Luck is solid, Gaffney is quick and pretty fast...there D is nasty....forget the guys name SVO? - this kid is a player- has the Zibby attitude.

Saying all that...ND wins against these M**** F*******....because we are ND and we will prevail.

I have a hard time thinking that this will be a close game.

I think Stanford pounds us in the ground and wins easily.

I hate to say this and hope that ND wins, I just don't see it happening.

Stanford is the better than any team we have faced thus far. Let's see if we are 1 and 2 against teams that are not the equal of Stanford, that does not bode well for ND.

We will not win this game unless we win the turnover battle by at least 3. If TOs are even or worse, we'll get pounded.

ya, im not saying we cant win this game but our defense has to create some key turnovers and we have to TACKLE (something that has killed us for the past couple of years)

and does anyone know how to make a thread

The transitive property often does not apply to football... case and point in the 3-9 year we beat Stanford who beat USC... and then USC absolutely demolished us.

My keys to the game:

1. Score 45+.
2. Have a positive turnover differential.
3. Bring the house on passing downs and pressure luck.

Seriously... we might as well bring a safety blitz every play because you know they aren't going to be covering anyone.

My keys to the game:
1) Pressure Luck.
2) Our cornerbacks stick on Stanford's WR's like glue.
3) Our offensive line block for Crist like they did against Mich. St.
4) Have a good running game.
5) Show why TJ chose the Irish over Stanford.

To put it succinctly as possible:

1- Mistake-free football. It's all kinds of cliche, but it true here. Notre Dame had way too many dropped passes and fumbles against Michigan State.

2- Turnovers. Force them.

Listen people, Brian Kelly and Diaco are too very good coaches from what I can see. Notre Dame outcoached Michigan and Purdue, and I'd say Michigan State was a push (Dantonio is a very solid coach too though). I don't expect to see Harbaugh outcoach Kelly, and that alone should keep the Irish formidable.

I think Stanford will go 10-2 at worst and make a BCS game, a very good shot at 12-0. If Notre Dame can beat Stanford, they can finish 10-2.

I'd say Stanford 45-35 though.

While Stanford seems to be the better team

While Stanford seems to be the better team

(as evidenced by the fact that the oddsmakers believe they are effectively a full TD better) I can see ND sneaking up on the Cardinal. Stanford has two much more important games coming up right after ND: at Oregon, then home to Palo Alto to host USC. Stanford's chances to win the Pac 10 could be determined by those two games.

I don't think it will be a blowout, but I can definitely see it being comfortable.
