I don't know how everyone else felt, but it seemed to me that NBC was all about Michigan prior to the game. All they showed before kick off was Michigan warming up, interviewed Dick Rod and so on. I was so furious I went to the coverage on the radio and turned the TV volume down, but the radio was an entire play ahead of NBC coverage, so I had to resort back to NBC... I don't remember NBC being so bad in previous years, although I have always thought the NBC broadcast team for the ND games suck. I just don't understand that if NBC is supposed to be this great asset for ND, why do they promote the other team so much????

I didn't pay attention to the pregame stuff.

In general, NBC is supposed to be "fair and balanced". When the deal was put together that was the desire of BOTH NBC and ND. NBC wanted ND's business but they didn't want to known as the Notre Dame Network which is what opposing fans call them anyway. ND didn't want them to known as the ND Network either despite wanting the exclusive deal and NBC's $$$$. That's the reason there is no ND announcer like Hornung or Pagna. The intent was that NBC appears neutral. Not an excuse that's the actual program since the deal was put in place.

If NBC had signed a contract with Alabama instead of ND, Kenny Stabler would be calling the games. Bama would have insisted one of their boys be at the mike. ND directed just the opposite.

The neutrality is silly actually as the SEC, Big 10, etc aren't going to sign a contract to play on NBC. Even BYU's indedepency isn't going to end up on NBC. ESPN grabbed that one too. Nobody else is going to play on NBC but ND. End result you can tune into the Big 10 Network or an SEC game or ACC game and hear announcers touting their boys with a down home flavor but you won't hear the same on NBC because they're "neutral".

Which asks the question so why does neutral NBC have a website devoted to ND football called "ND Central"? To promote ND Football? No, to promote NBC's broadcasts.

I mean seriously if you blindfolded me and made me listen to that broadcast, i would be wondering when michigan got their own network.

While they were annoyingly chipper on Michigan, I can understand the excitement to see the most dynamic player of the first two weeks in all CFB. DickRod is a story as well. However, last I check, ND IS A FREAKING STORY TOO!!! AND THEY PAY THEIR SALARIES!!!

I would settle for getting names right. Chris Thorpe looked a lot like Chris Stewart. Mayock also said something about Iowa referencing our team????!!?! WTF guys? I don't think we even have anyone FROM IOWA on our entire roster? So apathetic to ND that they can't even get the name of the team right.

I will admit, Iowa City is a former capital of Iowa and the Old Capital building has a golden dome. Mayock may want to differentiate in the future by noticing IA City has flags flying above the dome while ND has a statue of Mary. And the Basilica RIGHT NEXT TO IT IS A DEAD GIVAWAY AS WELL YOU..... oh wait, hire a BC grad and I guess I should not be surprised.

I am sure there is more since I had the constant distraction of a 3 and 6 year old running rampant.

For Mr. Mayock - See if you can absorb this in the next two weeks.

I may be wrong, but when he was talking about Iowa... I thought he was referencing Bob Diacco's time there as a player.

But maybe I'm wrong.

I'll be rewatching this week with my notepad to critique the crew. I have to admit, I had two wild animals (3 and 6 year old) running around during the game so I may have missed some context. I know I heard him call Stewart, Thorpe b/c I replayed it about four times saying WTF each time. I am sure I missed just as many flubs as I caught.

It was a pretty good broadcast for NBC's standards. Nothing too much to get excited or angry about.

While they were annoyingly chipper on Michigan,

This is, by far, the best opening line in a post on
this board in a very long time. Reps to you...Tom

The guys on The Score in Chicago were saying that Mayock was being a homer Saturday. Mostly because he wouldn't admit that TJ dropped the ball before the goal line. I don't mind the broadcast. How much of a homer can you be the last 10 yrs? ND has lost a lot of home games. They have to criticize ND when they are playing poorly or whats the point of having commentators??

Didn't Mayock say it looked like he dropped it before the goal line? I seem to remember he was agreeing with the replay that clearly showed TJ dropped it early.

It's one of those instances where if Mayock doesn't flip shit and throw a tantrum for 15 mins that it was the wrong call, then he's being an ND "homer".

Mayock was saying they had better snap the ball quick on the PAT or else the TD would have been overturned. I highlighted it a bunch of times and said TJ absolutely dropped it before crossing the line. Apparently he is a homer for not throwing the replay flag from clear up in the booth.

Yeah the Chicago media is moronic. I think Mayock was saying you couldn't tell from the angle but it looks really close. And the guys on The Score were saying that he dropped the ball on the two. Either way it doesn't really matter.

Here's a better question...

Why would you listen to sports talk radio at all? 90% of the people in sports talk radio are morons who never played a down of football in their life, or shot a free throw, or tossed a baseball. There some nerd who got beat up in high school for being in the AV club and couldn't make the teams. The other 10% are the actual former players and coaches who are hired as the resident experts.

Listening to sports talk radio is just asking to get annoyed if you ask me. You might as well pay someone to punch you in the junk for an hour to see if it hurts.

As far as the NBC broadcast goes, NBC and ND don't want to seem homerish (google Hawk Harrelson) and are trying to attract a national televsion audience. As long as they don't have broadcasters avidly rooting against them as Haden and Hammond used to, I don't see a problem with it. That's my 2¢.

Anyone know if I am going to be tortured by Musberger on Saturday night? There arent many big games nationally before 8 PM on the abc family of networks...

Nebraska/Washington
Texas/Texas Tech
Clemson/Auburn

Hopefully, he takes the week off.

Yeah, it's a pretty dull week. Especially after the great matchups we had on Saturday.

I can't stand Musberger, but I don't mind Herbie too much.

Herbie is alright in my book. At this point, they need to pay Keith Jackson one billion dollars or whatever it takes to get him back. Musberger is falling well short of Keith's legacy. I still hear him saying "WHOOOOOOOAAAA NELLY!" on certain plays. I miss him.

Also about NBC,
1 They always cut off the Fight Song...and sometimes don't even play it after a score.
2 Mike seems almost against the Irish at times.
3 They never do anything pregame on TV! This time it was frikin Golf up to Kickoff! ugh

But I do like the shorter adds don't you all?

From a relatively 'objective' point of view, I can tell you that NBC's broadcast is certainly, and at times annoyingly, pro-ND.

Funny how they don't prescribe to" fair and balance" in anything else on display at the network. I would rather listen to musberger then hammond.

Doesn't Hammond look like Bruce Jenner and Phyllis Diller had a baby?

Hammond-eggs, aka "The Big Giant Head" (I mean, just look at his melon compared to anyone else in the booth) is a botched medical experiment.

I mean, it's just creepy the way he leans in on Mayock during the pre-game show. He keeps that up, he may smear some of his mascara on Mike's suit.

Musberger is annoying with a capital 'A'.

Not that I want to cast any aspersions... but I get the sense when being subjected to those two, that Herbie is Mustardberger's little "love bug". Just sayin...

This was the story before the game, everyone thought Notre Dame would win the game and the coach under fire much like espn and negative journalism is always their favorite story ( see Charlie Weis ). Mich just didnt cooperate and we reinvented 'Red Grange'. Its the same old stuff but I do like the new guy and did I for heavens sake hear him sound like he was a little pro Notre Dame? You guys know I always listen to the radio but Georgia was playing and I had to put up with NBC.
