First off, I just want to introduce myself and say you guys have an awesome forum here for Notre Dame football. I am glad I can be a part of it.
---
I won't be able to watch the Notre Dame vs. Michigan game this weekend. I'm in Afghanistan and AFN (Armed Forces Network) has choosen not to televise it. There are three total channels that ever show sports. Oklahoma/FSU got one spot, Miami/Ohio St another, but what really ticks me off is that the US Open takes the third spot.

Suffice it to say, I'm severely disappointed. I can't really argue that it should be picked over the other two matches, because they are some big time matchups between ranked teams. Although I would much rather watch what is my favorite all time rivalry between the two winningest teams in history.

Anyways, I might have to live vicariously through you guys this Saturday.

Fighting:

1) Godspeed.
2) We'll, no doubt, keep you abreast of the game's progress here.
3) Good, Bad or Ugly.
4) Who do we contact at AFN to set their heads straight?

Stay safe, sane and whole.

The Armed Forces Network chose Tennis over football?

Did you guys do something to piss them off? Is this punishment for something?

Seems wrong to me, get online if you can.

I feel your pain. I'll be in the Czech Republic for the next 3-4 weeks, and don't want to miss any games. IrishnSyria gave me a few tips to try, so I'll pass them on to you.

Somebody WILL be streaming it online. Google "ND football live streaming" and follow links. Can take a little time to find good links, so give yourself time.
Try to have at least 2 pages open at once. Only have one going at a time, but if that stops streaming you should be able to switch to the other an not lose a beat.
Look at ESPN 360. If you're desperate enough to pay 15 bucks, they usually carry the games.

Good luck, and thank you for your sacrifice for all of us!!

Go Irish!!

Stay safe, and God Bless. God, Country, Notre Dame!

Hopefully the fellas above were able to help you out.

Yeah I have had two brothers in Afghanistan in recent years (one an OU grad, the other a Texas guy...lol) and one stated he was able to watch every OU game via internet hookups... the other missed the entire season last year b/c he was too far in and didn't have access to anything close to that basically...

anyway, thanks for your service man... stay safe.

I have internet access, it's just too slow to even attempt streaming video. My best bet is to hope AFN re-airs the game sunday, which is very possible.

I'll be watchin the other games to see some highlights, and I'll try to follow along with what you guys are talkin about.

I've been here for eleven months, so I only got a few more weeks I got to miss!

A couple of options (which you probably know already) you'll have to determine which best fits your internet speed.

The ND site, CBSSportsline.com, SI, etc run gametrackers that list play by play, down and distance, stats and such. Obviously no video but you'll know how the game is going.

There is radio access over the internet at WSBT Radio: News On Demand - wsbtradio.com

If you google ND football radio perhaps you can find something better than WSBT for you.

We have a GameDay Thread, http://www.irishenvy.com/forums/notre-dame-game-day/53893-sep-11-michigan-notre-dame.html where a dozen or two posters will be following the game. Problem is most of them are also watching the game so the commentary ("what a terrible tackle!", what was he thinking?") can still leave you in the dark with no video. If you're gonna log on to the thread maybe we can get people to comment in more detail to give you a "picture"

Hey, BGIF, would it be cool if we start a thread called something like "Irish vs. Michigan: Blow by Blow"?

That way, we could all provide more vivid detail for Fighting and anyone else who can't see the game so they will be able to follow along quicker and be able to keep up with the comments in the main game day thread?... Just a thought.

And they are really providing our fine service folks with tennis rather than Notre Dame football?! -- I will be talking to my congressman and senators!

Feel free to type in the play by play there.

If he has access to UND.com they have a LIVE blog up that does play by play with Mirko Jurkovic, Reggie Brooks, and Jack Nolan.

NBC Sports also has some kind of live feed I believe.

AFN ND broadcast

AFN ND broadcast

AFN is going to carry the game. I'm stationed in Okinawa and found the AFN Channel guide. It won't be on "live" but it will be broadcast on AFN Sports, channel 4 for me at 1600(local time GMT +9) this Sunday.

Smerky already passed on my advice. You should be able to find a live stream somewhere (assuming internet access) with espn 360 being the emergency option. But before I figured that out, I definitely followed a few games just based on 1)NBC's live blog 2)gamecast (NBC and ESPN will both have one) and 3)IrishEnvy's gameday thread. It's surprisingly fun to "watch" a game this way, though a little frustrating as well.

Stay safe.
