College can be scary that first semester. Stick it out Louis, you won't regret it.

Wow.
Possibly the ONE underclassman (not names Manti) we can't afford to lose.
Hopefully Coach Kelly changes his policy about talking guys out of leaving.

he has talked about missing home a lot...but at this point he is stating he is hoping he is making the right decision which states it being elsewhere

guys he is still a teenager, they change their minds all the time. it will be all good! if he leaves because he was not on the dress list maybe he wasnt meant to be @ ND??? maybe he should be looking in the mirror and trying to figure out why he wasnt on the list instead of crying on facebook? man up! i doubt very much that Kelly would leave that kind of prospect off the dress list unless he truely wasnt deserving...

Didn't Nix come in at some ridiculous weight? He probably isn't close to playing shape for this team.

i remember reading he was close to 50lbs heavier than expected...although kelly did state on an article on irishdaily that he had vastly improved

I wrote this with Shaq and I'll write it again: If he doesn't want to be here, then leave.

It's been awhile since I've seen Rudy, so refresh my memory on how the dress list works? Is it the top 50 players or something like that? Or is it by depth chart? And don't you get more for home games?

I hope and pray this is not true...i really really like this kid. I think its tough...for a star in High School to come in and have to work to the top.

I'm almost positive that I saw Nix on the sidelines in a uniform.

This doesn't make any sense though. He has a great chance at being a starter next season with Ian Williams graduating.

Nix has been on campus what a month? I think you need to sit down this kid and really convince him to stay. Tell him all the positives and sell him on the future.

Shaq had been here for a year. He had threatened to transfer at the end of last season. Clearly wasn't beating out upperclassman or players younger than him (Jones). I think he saw the writing on the wall and wasn't up for the competition.

The coaches are probably breaking his balls because he did nothing over the summer, and came in 50 lbs over weight. Theres a chance he would be playing if he worked out all spring/summer and entered camp in fighting shape.

Hes probably used to be babied, and has never had a coach lay into him.

Way earlier in the recruiting cycle, I asked why we were not recruiting a nosetackle for the 2011 class. Everyone told me it was because we were loaded and didn't need one. I thought: really? What if something happens to Nix? then you'd have a two year gap in your roster at that position. Well, if this goes down, I hope one of our recruited DEs can grow into a nosetackle. But @#%^&## I don't want to lose this guy.

I just don't get why ANY athlete in ANY sport expects to come in and play day 1. This kid needs to get his ego in check because he wouldn't be playing at any elite school the first day he steps on campus.

As much as I was totally supportive of Shaq leaving... I am completely disappointed in Nix. This is a very silly decision if it comes to it.

He's what 18? I know I was sure an immature little shit at that age. You are the center of the universe when you're an immature 18 year old. He's learning and growing at this point, I just hope it is in the right direction. You need good guidance during this period, and I hope someone is giving it to him.

I absolutely hated my first semester at ND -- I was homesick, didn't know anybody, and wanted to go back home. But I'm glad I stuck it out, and I wouldn't trade my ND experience for anything in the world.

So let's cut the guy a break. First-year blues are normal.

My first semester of college I was absolutely miserable. I had just broken up with my g/f from high school, my friends were ALL at different colleges or starting real life, and everyone that I knew from my hometown at college were asshats. The first semester flew by and by the end of it I had a new g/f, made all new friends, and even became friends with those people I didn't like from my hometown because away from there, they were different people.

If he gives it a chance, he'll probably end up liking it just fine. The problem is that some people never give it a chance. They mope and mope and don't try to make the best of it and when they end up looking back 10-20 years later, they have a lot of regrets.

In the end, I think Louis toughs it out. He'll see the field this year in some capacity and next year he'll see the field a ton once he's had a full season in Coach Longo's S&C program. By his junior year he'll be the man or a major contributor. If he is really as talented as we hope he is, he may even be the man or a major contributor next year.

i honestly dont know the specifics...BGIF is the one you want to ask about that. all i know is there is a list and if you aint on it you do not dress.

70 players can suit up for road conference games. Home and non-conference games do not have a limit on how many you can suit up, so since we're an independent I don't know what rules we would be obligated to follow.
