Doesn't matter. Lou picked us to win 12 and face Florida for the title last year. That didn't work either.

Prove it starting today.

I'm with BGIF...

HERE COME THE IRISH!

It's all good, if you go to ESPN.com, the first thing you see on the very front page is Kelly leading the team out. Let them say what they want. I'd rather come out as underdogs and beat every team than be heavily favored and possibly lose.

Dude - WTF - I am so pissed after seeing that. That was an attack. A complete Mockery. Who approved that to air. Only our play on the field can silence future attacks like this. But it was totally uncalled for. PLAY LIKE A CHAMPION EVERYDAY!

I love that everyone is upset about ESPN doing what they do best, be down on the Irish. I can't wait to see them start backpeddling as fast as they can now.

Seems like it was written by a USC fan, very "emotional" but far from the truth, yes there was a collapse, but we are witnessing the rebirth!

Very depressing, but the truth is hard to swallow. ND has got to get it together, and win. We have a good Michigan team comin in next week. Lets get this done ND.
Garbage....a total hatchet job. Even the guys on College Gameday seemed shocked by it.

yeah... it's far from reality... and as I pointed out yesterday, so is the ND fan who thinks we'll win a title a year from now every single year...

but this angle is just as far from reality.

as I wrote in the other thread, it was pure garbage...and even the guys on gameday seemed surprised at it.

Posted this on Rivals yesterday.

I do not think ESPN showed the entire video. The way it ended..makes me think they cut it right before it turned the corner into something positive.

Me thinks if ND is 2-0 going into MSU or 4-0 going into BC, those games will be on ESPN and we will see the other half of the video.

I watched the video several times and I am positive it was cut short. The prose of the author would not allow for such an ending if it followed the previous.

Watch it again...and you will see that right as it ends...is right about when the thing should turn into a "new day" and "new coach"...bit.

Now...will we ever see the other half? Depends on if ND wins.

That piece really did get me a bit depressed during a time of year that all fans should have optimism.....kinda bad timing by ESPN.

The guy is from Mississippi, went to Missouri for college and then worked as the LSU beat writer. Frankly, 90% of people from "SEC Country" think that:

1) The SEC has always been and will always be the dominant football conference even though that is not remotely true.

2) Any football team in the northern half of the United States might as well play in the FCS.

ESPN doesnt make money off of Notre Dame that is why they do it. The only reason they cover ND or UFC or NHL is because of te demand for it. Otherwise all three would only be footnotes on the channel. I really wish there was another option to force them to step up. I dont hate everything ESPN because they do have some quality journalist/ analysts but most of it is bs.

They're a business. I think they have some of the best journalists and analysts on TV. But, they have a lot of fluff that doesn't really help us to learn more about the game. Same is true of every media outlet. If it didn't sell, they wouldn't do it (e.g., "The Decision)

Take this as just one man's opinion:
I think a lot of people have been pissed at ESPN analysts for being right about Notre Dame in the last 10 years. We've been bad. Mark May is an ass. But, he's been way more accurate about us than Lou Holtz has been. We need to forget about all of that and just wait for the season to unfold.

We'll be back. It's going to happen.

Yes. The same could have been said about Alabama. But they won in 1992. Michigan won in 1997 (AP). Nebraska won the same year (Coaches).

It was a weird piece. I don't think I would have run it. But, I understand the sentiment. Notre Dame is the most storied college program in history. There hasn't been a title since 1988 (1989 or 1991 notwithstanding...).

We just have to prove them wrong. I, for one, think Brian Kelly will do just that.

Good points jayhawk, i also feel like it got cut short, maybe on purpose? I would like to see us 2-0 going into the first game on ABC against MSU. Which is entirely possible if we beat a now threatening UM team

Its perfect to be played over and over in the Gug, lockerroom, and on a tv mounted in every players apartment/dorm. That angered me and fired me up because there is some truth to it, and I wish I could be a part of the rebirth of ND.

Definitely felt like they cut it right before the new hope part. Whatever, if ESPN's going to be playing a eulogy for the Irish (and calling Lou Holtz a ghost), they'd better be ready to get a Dayne Crist sized boot up their ass...

Reminds me of Charlie's first season when they predicted ND would go 1-5 out of the gate.

I like this win more so then Charlies. This win looked real. The game was managed, and balanced efficiently. We did not rely on ANY big plays. It's a better sign then last years Nevada game where we blew them out on pure athleticism.

The only reason I watch espn is because it is really the only choice I've got. Man they piss me off. I know Lou Holtz says some dumb things, but when analysts talk down to him that cuts me deep. He has been at the top of the sport and those spoiled ass harvard grads have done nothing but write about the sport. I really wish I had a good alternative to espn b/xuz i would be done watching 'em! Go IRISH!!

The piece does seem incomplete like Dales5050 said. Also look at the title, "Another Season of Hope at Notre Dame." Either the author is trying to juxtapose the completely different themes, or it just doesn't make sense because it is cut off. With language like "Something has died here in South bend" and "Here lies a dynasty," this piece is about death, a eulogy, not hope. We can only speculate about ESPN's motivation for airing the piece the way they did.

Nothing will cure this other than going to the BCS or NC game and competing, which I think we will do within 2 years. Hell, I'd love to see the Kelly coached ND team meet Urban Crier and Omar in the NC game next year. My secret fantasy, and oh yeah, we wax them.

Fellas its not important just as they have become irrelevant. Like one of their football hosts always harps on so and so being irrelevant they have now become that. Its just a way to say hey look at us and the college games we air, they dont carry Notre Dame Football. The season will speak for itself and as for me espn (notice small caps ) is in fact irrelevant. Its like a bunch of fantasy guys talking football to show how much unimportant stuff they know. Really its funny 'bless their hearts they cant get out of their own way'. Look at the people who make these videos and statments not the Notre Dame Football program and understand it for what it is-a bunch of irrelevant guys trying to protect their @$#%$. Of course Notre Dame has a ways to go but to say what they said is beyond defending-man let it go and consider the source. Its tough when you hit your zenith because from that point its all downhill.
