We all know we have the best Fight Song, but what other Irish songs do you hold near and dear? Not just songs from the band, but other Irish music, jigs, ND Glee, pub songs and such. As always Have At It Irish Fans!

Well this has nothing to do with your thread, but I just noticed you now have the title of "Degenerate Poster"; Congratulations!

GreatDayne 1000 VBucks if the next time you start a thread you don't type "have at it irish fans" for some reason it just annoys me

What's your favorite song GreatDayne? You never seem to respond to your own questions

Let's get off of GD's ass a bit, OK? If you have a problem with him, PM him or myself personally but the kid has done nothing to deserve the crap he's getting.

Thanks.

I wasn't trying to be belligerent in any way, he is a quality poster and I enjoy having him here. I just noticed the title and had to comment on it! I chuckled. In my estimation, if you have one of those fancy titles, you are regarded as being a productive member of this community. So Congrats GD!

Back on topic, I know it's cliche, but I really dig "The Blood of Cuchulainn" by Mychael & Jeff Danna; or for easier reference, that sweet song in the Boondock Saints. I also basically like any type of Irish music, there is just something about it. I also like Scotland the Brave, and since ACamp didn't link it, I'm going to do him a kindness.

An Irish Lullaby

"Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li, "

Heck, even this Spanish reindeer knows that song. Gotta go with the fight song (the entire song) and "Here Come the Irish." That song always brings moistness to my eye.

mgriff, your Scotland the Brave video reminds me of the Texas A&M band kinda sorta. The Aggies just marched up and down the field. I have only seen them once and quite a long time ago, but...

Here are some Irish singers singing a song. Does this count?

YouTube - Summer wine - The corrs and Bono (with lyrics)

Who doesn't love the fight song? My daughter got to see her old man sing it the other day. Rudy happened to be on so at 16 months, she got her first showing. We danced around and sang the song, did the speech, it was a great time. I always cry when I watch that movie, and when I looked at my daughter when he's getting told by his dad that all following dreams does is hurt the ones you love, I lost it. God I love that movie and the fight song.

***EDIT***Doomer, very nice. I dig it dude. Some famous people right there!

The Victory Clog.

It's always the background score to the epic camera shots of stone-faced fans at away games.

Well, I'll succumb to the temptation to bore you guys with history again. Back in my Dad's days, when ND scored a touchdown, the crowd broke into two essentially forgotten Irish [secondary] fight songs: "When the Irish Backs Go Marching By, the Cheering Thousands Shout Their Battlecry..." etc, and "On Down the Line", basically back-to-back. Giving you a flavor of those ancient times, a line in the first is: " And When the Irish Line Goes Smashing Through, It Sweeps the Foe-man's Ranks Away, for Notre Dame Men Fight for Gold and Blue, and Notre Dame Men Will Win This Day". --- When Dad wasn't crooning Danny Boy to whomever the youngest son of the house was in those days, he'd sing all three fightsongs. Pretty thrilling for us kids [the old man could sing, too] and obviously I remembered it. Mom, at 94, still breaks into one or the other of them when ND scores on TV.

Four Green Fields (there is a version by Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy on YouTube that is hard to beat) - "...my fourth green field will bloom once again said she"

The Fields of Athenry (Traditional or Dropkick Murphy's versions are both great).

Any song featuring Luke Kelly, the original lead singer of the Dubliners (Ronnie Drew also has some incredible songs and a really unique voice)!

GO IRISH!

Both here and in the old country!

Whiskey In The Jar
YouTube - Jerry Garcia-Whiskey in the Jar *

Bugger Off. A sad song: It's closing time.
YouTube - Irish drinking song - Bugger off

*(I know that Garcia has a thin reedy voice that's annoying to many, but I like this version. What can I say ... I'm a hippie.)

All good it's true! I would add "Foggy Dew" and maybe "Merry Plough Boy"; did you ever try The Clancy Bros version of "Whiskey in the Jar"?

and maybe "He Moved Through The Fair", "Sceal Na Gcapall", "O'sullivans March", "Bratach Bana", or "Brian Boru's March". Or maybe even "Roddy McCorley". I guess it depends on how "republican" your tastes are.

Never ever boring Sir, and so appreciative that you share the history. Geez. You and SirDishHands (Willie Nelson, I know that's you...) and BearGB and IrishLax, the Tate and JPham and Justin; GreatDayne sharing his stories to me in Pm's about his family's history in the area; you guys sharing insight is out of this world. It's kind of like reading about the recipe vs. sitting and eating with the chef.

GoIrish!!! and KPenn and NDinLA use umbrellas in the sunshine. Just sayin... (I digress)

By the way, I succumbed to temptation last year and was later sentenced to 444 "Our Fathers" by the local friggin priest. Something about the "church cracking down on sin." That sucked.

You Sir Neutered, are a classic original. You make me laugh on a gray day. I enjoy telling the old stories for you and Johnny and those who feel the whole of ND in both the now and the then. My data bank is limited, though--wish the Old Old Man was still alive--he would have loved telling his tales to you guys.
