Hell yeah i would take Martin. I find it funny that grown men continue to bash tennagers on life decisions but i bet if he did not move to Colorado his recruitment would have turned out much differntly regardless of where he neded up. I don't think Notre Dame is in it but i would take Martin on this team.

Oh and the RKG thing needs to stop, it is just stupid. So if someone commits to ND that makes them a RKG because that is the only criteria i have seen.

Jason I cannot agree with you more. I would take Chris Martin and welcome him to the team. People tend to forget that these are 17, 18, 19 year old kids and they are going to make these decisions.

I think the term of RKG is way overrated, nice word, but over used!!!! So if Clausen and Tate decided to stay would they be RKG's??

I betcha Martin is thinking to himself that he should've never decommited from us.

I would take him in a second... he was a Notre Dame Kid, then the coaching staff he had grown close too was rumored to be fired...then actually fired. I can't blame him for getting cold feet, but now we have BK, and players will get better here..... Come back to the Irish Chris....awww you....I can't stay mad at you.

I would love to have Chris be part of the family. We exchanged messages and he was hilarious.

Just have a problem with someone that changes their mind so often that they don't even know what is next. He may be or may turn into a great player for whomever lands him but there seems to be a lot of maturing that needs to occur first.

Yep Rivals reporting that he is going to Florida. Chris Martin and Meyer deserve each other. Umm...with Ronald Powell, Shariff Floyd, Easley, etc... how does he expect to see any playing time?

He says he is going to play outside linebacker and sometimes rush the passer as an end....which means Meyer told him that now, and when he gets there he will hand him a burrito and tell him to get in line w/ Omar and the other DT's....Sarcasm, but I do remember seeing Trattou playing DT for them.

Did Cal release him? Or does he have to sit out a year....?

Answered in the Bill Hodge On The Trail ESPN update:

ESPNU 150 defensive end Chris Martin of Grandview (Aurora, Colo.), who signed with California in the Class of 2010, is transferring to Florida.
Martin (6-foot-5, 240-pounds and rated four-stars) originally committed to Notre Dame as a junior, but re-opened his recruitment after the Irish fired Charlie Weis as head coach. He then signed with the Bears over Florida.
A West Coast native, Martin spent three years at Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland, Calif.) before transferring to Grandview for his senior season.
He explained his reasons for leaving California, where he had enrolled in summer classes. Here is his statement released by the school:
"My decision to transfer definitely does not reflect on the football program or the academics at Cal," he said. "Rather, I feel like for me to focus and truly reach my potential I need to leave many of the distractions I have here at home in the Bay Area. I need to venture away from home and start my college career somewhere else where I don't have those distractions."
Head coach Jeff Tedford of California says he supports Martin's decision and has signed a release. Because he attended a class while enrolled at Cal, Martin will be forced to redshirt and sit out the 2010 football season due to NCAA regulations.

i guess he wanted to go where the money is.he'll be speaking to maurkice pouncey shortly.lol

That's a BS post. There's no evidence of that at all. If that's what he was after he had the opportunity to do last year.

In his press release he stated that he wanted to get away from "many of the distractions I have here at home in the Bay Area". If it's not the Cal program or classwork what distractions exist there that don't in Gainsville.

Here's what a Cal fan wrote on another board. Now, it could be BS for all we know but I'm just saying, this is what he wrote:

I haven't even published this on our boards (BEAR INSIDER) because some felt it necessary to trash a kid simply because he is leaving. That said, several weeks ago I witnessed an unfortunate incident involving street thugs and Chris, they semed like they knew him. Everyone was smilling at first until the smiles seemed to get sinister. It was really strange. It resulted in Chris making a quick exit from the area with another Cal team mate as two of the oposing males went to their car. I believe the other team mate was from North Carolina (I left his name out).

In my opinon, if it wasn't for Chris and his team mates quick thinking, he might not be here today. I'm not fearful of much but these guys were real bad ones (I watched the entire event from across the street). I immediately felt as if he had an ounce of intelligence he would leave the Bay Area, it appears that he has. I hate to say it, but I am relieved for him and his family.

It certainly gives you a new take on the situation, providing it's true. I still stand by what I said about not taking him at ND though...we went down that road and there was just simply too much drama IMO...

if that really is what happened then he deserves alot of credit. because alot of kids these days in those circumstances would either join those type of people and get in trouble, stand up for themselves and fight them, which would have negative results, or even worse be killed.

so if he was man enough to walk away and just leave the whole situation. then good for him.

he's a talented athlete that just needs the right guidance, he would have had the best here at ND. but its his decision

That is EXACTLY the first thing that I thought of when I read that he had mentioned distractions, especially after he left town to finish high school, no matter what excuse he gave. The thought that he was trying to avoid the bad crowds, or maybe he had gotten caught up with a rival group certainly entered my mind. But since I am absolutely clueless, I said nothing. That Oakland / Bay Area can be a tough crowd.

All speculation of course.
