I hope it wasn't Michael Floyd or Ragone. With one incident each this off-season...we're in trouble if they get another one.
Oh, and underage drinking? Please. Can't believe we have another weak-ass issue to deal with with the SB Police.
This makes me ridiculously mad. The whole philosophy of the excise police makes me furious - their sole purpose is to look for underage drinking parties... This stuff has to stop. You know what the most ridiculous part of this is: "All those arrested were held overnight in the St. Joseph County jail." WTF!! This is why I hate the Indiana drinking laws - you held kids overnight in jail for underage drinking? Are you insane?
All those arrested were held overnight in the St. Joseph County jail until their blood alcohol content had dropped to legal levels.
Story 31 Comments Photos Font Size: A party in South Bend was busted by police overnight, sending 43 people to the county jail.
It happened at a home on Washington Street. South Bend police were called in to respond to the initial complaints and the Indiana State Excise Police were called to the scene over underage drinking.
The excise police tell NewsCenter 16 that 43 people were arrested, and one was sent to the hospital for lacerations in his hand. It's not known at this time if all of the arrests were just for underage drinking.
Among those arrested are eight Notre Dame football players, including Nate Montana, the son of football great Joe Montana and back-up QB; Lorenzo Wood, a cornerback and 2010 recruit; Chris Watt, a sophomore offensive guard; Robert Toma, a 2010 wide receiver recruit; Nicholas Tausch, a sophomore kicker; Ta-iler Jones, a 2010 wide receiver recruit; Steven Filer, a junior outside linebacker; and Tate Nichols, a 2010 recruit.
Also arrested are Tim Abromaitis, a standout junior forward on the basketball team; Eric Atkins, a 2010 basketball recruit; and Steven Summerhays, a 2010 hockey recruit.
So far, there has been no official word from the University of Notre Dame regarding the players' arrests.
All those arrested were held overnight in the St. Joseph County jail until their blood alcohol content had dropped to legal levels.
We'll have more on this story as soon as the information becomes available.
Kind of ironic that I just read part of a story in the summer 2010 Notre Dame Magazine about the pleasant relationship between Notre Dame and the city of South Bend. This pisses me off. How about telling the partiers to quiet down?
I am not a big fan of present day police in any city... I'll be honest about that... many stations have become tax collectors and not much more...
but these kids broke the law... it's not like they were chewing gum drops... if you break the law, no matter what you do... you must be mature enough to know shit might happen... sorry, blaming the police here to me is weak.
With that said hopefullly res life stays out of this and lets kids be kids... though if they don't, who is really to blame?
Opening just 1 can of CARBONATED beer discharges approximately 3 g. of C02 into the atmosphere (dependent upon the temperature of the beverage). This is compounded by an additional discharge of methane some hours later. And I don't even want to get started on the styrofoam cups in which the beer is often consumed and how that impacts the ozone layer.
thats the way i see it, its the law to not underage drink, so a law is a law no matter how little it may seem. it's not like they are going to prison for life now, they had to spend one little night in jail.
not that big of a deal, it's just a matter of what punishment comes from Notre Dame now. it shouldn't really be hard on them, but only time will tell and hopefully a lesson learned
Fuck the police
Kelly has stated that he is still waiting for all the facts to come out and that punishment will be dealt with internally. I highly doubt ResLife will be involved to the point of suspending kids for this...as Steve Wiltfong reported that a few of the kids blew 0.0 and all were first time offenders. I'd imagine that Paul Longo is going to play the role of Res-Life in this situation...
