ND game in Ireland

Hey guys, I was just wondering if any of you have information about the the ND vs. Navy game in Dublin, in 2012. When will tickets be on sale, and where would one get them?

We played in Ireland about 10-15 years ago, didn't we? I remember the game being on really early in the morning on the East coast ... can't imagine what time this one will start out here in Cali.

I can't imagine they'd say anything about tickets until about 1.5-2 years before the game. If you buy your plane ticket now though, you might get a good deal I'm sure you'll be able to buy stadium tickets online even if you don't get them through the lottery.

Twas back in '96. It's a small stadium less than 40,000 seats but tickets weren't a problem. It's a travel game for ND and the Navy so you get the hard core travel fan, some that want to visit the Ol' Sod, and locals who were curious about seeing a live American football game.

I don't recall any advance ticket sale althougth with brokers today you might find someone who will take an order for advance payment.

Of course by then Archbishop Brady might threaten to excommunicate all Irish fans who consort with the "caricature of the drunken Irish".

its like a six hour time differnce so if the game is at one oclock there here on the east coast it would be a 7 oclock AM game. jeese thats pretty earlier

Yep, it's the same time zone difference between the east coast and London, as it is between the east coast and Hawaii.

I seem to recall, at least in Cincinnati, the game in 1996 was replayed later in the day. I know it wasn't too early, anyhow. but maybe I'm wrong.

Croke Park Dublin holds 80,000 and is a vey modern arena.
Hill 16 BEHIND THE GOAL is named such as they used the Rubble from the City following the Easter Uprising in 1916 as the foundations for the slope behind that goal

Croke Park has been hugely upgraded since ND played here last time & is now one of the finest stadiums in europe in any sport.

Páirc an Chrócaigh (i.e. Croke Park) holds 82K+.....would LOVE to go to this game but I have a major fear of flying. Not been to Ireland since 2001 (a work trip).....would take a lot for me to get on a plane. Last time I flew was a couple years ago and it was only a 90 min flight....was gripping the arm rests the whole way.

If I could arrange a needle of something to knock me the frig out, that would be ideal. I've been to Ireland many times; my wife hasn't...a trip for this game with our sons included would be a dream (and get her to stop yapping about going to Ireland).

BTW - All-Ireland Senior Football championship TOMORROW in Croke Park! Tyrone vs Kerry (these 2 teams have won the past 5 years.....Tyrone twice, Kerry 3x). Hope I can find a P2P site on the net to watch it....don't want to drive to the D.C. burbs and watch it in a pub.

I am looking forward to the game.I live in Germany and fly to Dublin quite often from Frankfurt on ryan air.I go visit family and stay the weekend and it costs about 50 euro round trip.I would like to buy tickets as soon as possible

Game venue hasnt been decided yet. It may not be Croke Park. Could also be at the newly opened Aviva Stadium which is on the site of the old Landsdowne Road stadium. More modern than Croke Park and more suitable for football.

Final decision on if the game will go ahead has not been taken yet. I think they are still waiting to see what the level of interest is like before making a final decision. While Navy has been in contact with the relevent sporting authorities in Ireland, they have yet to make a submission seeking permission to hold the game and no commerical arrangements have been entered into.

I know Anthony Travel in LaFortune was advertising trips over for the game in 2012 last year. That would be a total rip off if the game ended up not coming to fruition.

I was looking at some of the travel 'packages' being put together. Talk about total rip offs! Obviously they are targeting ND elite alumni when they came up with them...christ one package has you staying in a frickin castle for a night or two! Has anyone come across anything reasonable? I'm really interested in going, I believe its schedule for labor day weekend correct?!

I got to stay here [SAS St. Helen's] some years ago when I was over for work. Don't remember the cost....company paid for it. Was a real nice location with a not-too-long walk down a hill to the DART. Short ride into the city centre and would even be shorter to the park if they play at Aviva. The DART used to run pretty much right through Lansdowne Road Stadium, you could see into the park from the train. I bet this St. Helen's hotel probably cost damn near as much as staying in a castle.

If we end up going, we'll more than likely do the B&B route. Might even rent a cottage in Donegal for a week or two and just take an overnight trip to Dublin for the game.

I'd be surprised if it was Croke Park, games being played at the height of the GAA's championship season(I think) Landsdownes or Aviva as it's now called is my bet

I was just there for a week and rented a 3 bed 2 bath house(it was a beautiful house) for 650 Eruos. That's like $850 dollars for the week, wich isn't bad if you go with a group. You can find them online.

Some of the other travel agents are advertising the game as the "Shamrock Classic". I know for certain that the game will not be called this - too close to the Irish National Championship game which is called the "Shamrock Bowl".

Personally I think the game will go ahead. There is enough interest in Ireland and around Europe to make it viable. It should be a great event. I hear the biggest risk to the game not happening is Navy's tardiness in making the necessary arrangements.

I think Ireland game would be great! But Im saving for ND vs. Caines Soldier Field!!! Its an hour flight. A night game would be awesome!!!
