Was it BC's FG in '93?

Matt Lovechio leaving for Indiana for some odd reason?

The fact that we haven't won a bowl game in 8 consecutive appearances?

George O Leary?

How's about the inept coaching our kids have been receiving from obviously inferior coaches since Lou left until CW rose and brought us back to relevance.

BC's FG in '93 was the biggest disappointment. Devestating. I root against them every game for that very reason, even in basketball. And I always will root against them. Forever.

Well in my lifetime as a conscious football fan, it would probably be that USC game from this year.

Think about it.. if ND beat USC, then USC would not have gone to the Rose Bowl (where they lost) and ND would forever have the credit for beating them, and getting it done in one hell of a football game, I might add. We came this close <-> to beating them.

I think I might have to agree....seems odd to pick something so recent though. And even stranger (or maybe not), the day after the USC game, I compared it exactly to how I felt after BC '93.

I felt the same too, but in '93 the loss to BC cost us a possible national title, and the only one we would have had in the 90's! The loss to SC this year would have only stopped the Trjojans from winning the national title. And that isn't a guarantee as they could have still made it to #2 in the BCS by the end of the year. It was similar in the way something seemed to be taken away from us.

Good point....but how painful is it to read this from blue gray sky top plays of the year? My hatred of USC (ending their unbeaten string would have meant more than possibly screwing them out of the NC game) goes far deeper than that of Fredo's:

6. Quinn for the (Almost) Win
Brady scores the go-ahead against Southern Cal
This touchdown would most definitely sit amid the pantheon of legendary Notre Dame scores had the next drive by the University of Southern California ended differently. The touchdown, with 2:04 to go, capped a dramatic eight play, 87 yard drive against the #1 team. Bedecked in a green jersey and under the watchful eye of Touchdown Jesus, the Fighting Irish player from Dublin (Ohio), former boyhood model, Brady Quinn, found the end zone on a 5 yard quarterback draw to give Notre Dame a 31-28 lead. Unfortunately, the run was later overshadowed by a fourth and nine pass, a crazy fumble play, and a push.

To me, the BC FG hurt more, because I was watching the game with a Rutgers fan who did not like the Irish. Since he was my boss, I couldn't really get too upset.

I think the most upset I ever got watching the Irish was during the 1991 Orange Bowl when Rocket's punt return TD was called back for a phantom "clip." I remember embracing my dad and jumping up and down when Ismail ran the ball back 91 yards and then collapsing to the ground when I hear the announcer say "there's a flag on the play."

After this year's Bush push, I picked up my son and we went for a walk outside under the stars. It got my mind off of the game.

I think that Boat Club not getting a new liquor license on Wednesday night was pretty damn dissapointing....

Gotta go with '93 BC and the phantom clip on Rocket's return against Colorado. I cried after those games

A good point yourself. It does hurt when the media keeps showing or writing about the Bush Push. Kills me even more to see the 4th down completed earier in the drive.

YIKES, The Boat Club, man that place was a dive. Hope the bulldoze it to the ground.

Ditto here, the Boston Cream Pies FG in 93. Still have night sweats over that one. Another reason I hate them is the trashing the locker room incident when they beat us at home. Cant wait to see them in 2007! If that's not enough their Red Sox fans also. That alone should be enough motivation for CW.

i would have to say BC in 93 as well. although i was a lad then, i cried for a couple hours afterward and pretended i was the kicker in my backyard making the winning kick for years after that.

BC in 1993.

To have such a great win against FSU the week before and come out so flat on defense...I'll never forget that game as long as I live.

And the best part? They came back and took the lead, crushing me even more. I'd have rather them been destroyed by 3 touchdowns.

Rick Minter had that Purdue Brock Spock "Deer in the Headlights" look on his face that day.

Hands up, who else said out loud...."they scored too fast"

THAT day? You'd better believe I did. They didn't stop Foley all day long. He kept hitting that tight end WIDE OPEN all afternoon.

Horrible memories here. I"m out of this thread.

Thank God someone else feels the way I do. I don't want to talk about the worst memories in Irish football. Let's talk about the good stuff. The BC field goal was the worst and that's it. Forget about it!

The game that Chris Zorich played in that Orange Bowl may have been the best ever a nose tackle has ever played. I cried as the cameras showed Zoro crying on the sidelines after the game. Still remember Corso trying to console him.

I can sum up this thread a little easier:

In general, quite a bit of the last 15 years have been a major disappointment:

1. 4-3 against BC in the last 7 meetings.

2. 8-7-1 against USC, a team I didn't know ND could lose to until I was 18. Then after I get out of college, ND can't lose by less then four touchdowns. Growing up is hard to do.

3. Hiring Bob Davie to replace Lou Holtz. No offense to Davie, but ND dropped the ball on this one. Davie was in way over his head (no head coaching experience) and it showed in the way he managed games (especially the clock).

3A. The O'Leary-Ty-Urban-Charlie ordeal. No comment needed. It was, however, the reason I came to Irishenvy.com

4. Kim Dunbar-Gate. Just bad. This broad was running around porking every player in sight, having kids with them, taking guys off to vacations. Bad, bad, bad. Davie took the fall for this when it happened while Holtz was coach

5. Haven't won a bowl game since a month before I got my f*cking driver's license.

And you all wonder why Jigga looks to the future instead of looking back?
