But more importantly for the Irish, Hardy gives Notre Dame an athletic playmaker in the secondary with safety one of the biggest needs in this recruiting class.
"He's on the phone with the (Notre Dame) coaches committing right now," said father Bill Hardy.
Hardy is the 11th verbal commitment this Irish recruiting class and the third from Ohio, following linebacker Jarrett Grace and defensive end Brad Carrico.Like those other two Midwest prospects, the Irish moved on Hardy early, offering the Central High School prospect in January.
The safety also held offers from Michigan State, Cincinnati, Arizona, Iowa, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others. Ohio State and Michigan had expressed interest.
Hardy ended up taking multiple visits to Notre Dame, returning to campus most recently last weekend. It didn't take much longer after that last look for the safety to realize he could call South Bend home.
Look for more on Hardy's commitment later today on Irish Illustrated.
