I love the way he is not praising anyone and at the same time not knocking anyone, previous coaching staff included. Coach Kelly is bringing to us what we've been needing!!!! I cannot wait until kickoff this fall!

Wow, Floyd has dropped nearly 20 pounds. Camp Kelly is getting them ready for 4 quarters!

I really like the fact that he actually stands at the podium instead of sitting back in a chair.

Ha!!! I agree. I like how he is energized and calls everyone by their name as he answers their question. A couple of times I thought that he was going to jump out from behind the podium and go thru some of the drills himself.. Love the energy!!

Anyone reminded of Lou Holtz I am so excited its not even funny we gonna be good and he is going to push them

Floyd lost 20 pounds suprising I thought that one of Floyd's strengths was always how big he was

Either Floyd gained weight in the offseason...or he now weighs somewhere around 205 pounds. I always thought Floyd's giant size was one of his biggest strengths.

it sounds like the coaching staff sees Chris Stewart as a leader, at least on the offensive side of the ball....lets see how the team reacts

What I've gleaned from this presser:

1. Kelly likes consistency. He constantly reiterates that they are constantly evaluating the players at all times. Unlike Charlie Weis, it appears Kelly doesn't have favorites. As Weis loved Robby Parris, for instance, and used him in lieu of more explosive players like Deion Walker once Floyd was hurt. No longer shall we see players like Golden Tate get benched after putting up a 3 catch, 104 yard performance. Inconsistent players will get benched.

2. Practice seems improvised. Seems like they work on whatever they think they need to during the week, and drills and scrimmage techniques should be widely varied from week to week. Nice.

3. This video game simulation program is incredibly interesting. It seems to have worked with Tony Pike.

4. As stated before, he's standing up at a podium. He's exuberant, energetic, excited, passionate. THIS is the man who will fire up the players and have them ready every single down. I love it. A huge step up from the sitting, lazy, bored press conferences Weis did.

5. He also stated that he won't take any trash talking ("B.S.", as he called it) or fighting from the team. Robert Blanton is completely screwed on the former.

6. Floyd was 233 pounds when Kelly arrived. He is now 216.

7. Harrison Smith is a safety, not a linebacker. Kelly basically said there is no way in hell Hayseed would ever be a linebacker in his system. He did, however, mention Hayseed is working extremely hard to improve.

8. 5 AM snow runs? Yeesh. Man, our players are going to have great endurance.

9. CHRIS STEWART!

10. He mentions he believes we will have a "dynamic" special teams unit.

I'm so PUMPED.

Floyd played at 220 will 3 pounds make that big a difference?

I assume most of us simply assumed Floyd still weighed relatively the same as he did in the fall, which rarely happens.

He's about the size he was his freshman year, now.

Did you also assume he didn't break his collarbone and missed most of the season?

There's consequences to being injured.

How much weight training and conditioning did you assume he did following surgery?

Have you ever tried to run with one arm immobilized against your body or in a sling?

Athletes can lose 5 to 10 pounds a game when they're playing. Then can easliy add it when there no playing - or training. Floyd wasn't playing for most of October and November. Then there was no bowl game practices to keep fitness honed through December. Then the coaching staff including the conditioning coaches were fired. No training table. No weigh-in. No monitors of any sort.

Oh and it was Christmas time when most of us gain a few pounds.

Kelly said, "233 when we got here". It was out of season when "we" got here, wasn't it?

I didn't find anything in the transcript stating Floyd's playing weight had been 233, did I miss it?

There's a significant difference between being overweight in the off season and reporting overweight like Kamara did as a sophomore.

The conditioning for Kelly's hurry up offense should be beneficial but it's not going to turn Floyd into Rocket.

BK is easily the most charismatic coach we've had in quite some time. His enthusiasm is just infectious, and really complicates my attempt at not getting on the BK bandwagon. I, like many others, have been hopping on them since Lou left, but this guy is the easiest to get on board with. I have a good feeling about him but I just can't let myself hop on the bandwagon yet.

This so bais and unfair to say. Robby came up big in a few games last year to lead the Irish to scoring drives. Who says Walker wasn't inconsistent in practices? Did you watch every practice? No!

Does anyone have trouble with the CBS viewer making their browser and eventually their whole comp crash?

Sometimes there's no trouble but 1 out of 5 or 6 times this happens for me.

Is there something I should do? Is it microsoft lashing out at me for using firefox?

I don't have the problem but saw this note posted by the und.com video crew when the posted their Pro Day clip,:

Check out the und.com feature on Pro Day today - as always, if you don't want to follow the link to the WMV/Silverlight video, it is in Flash on the front page of und.com and the football page...

We've had people post here about problems following the basketball games
on Gametracker due to Silverlight problems. Sorry can't help you there.

My take on the PC was GREAT! With BK saying Manti was not good last uear set the tone for me. He was a great attribute to the team I think. Great player, I did not say that he was amazing, great player is what I said he wasn't . ND will make no excuses and will fight like they use to do.

"Clearly, Brian Kelly's resume is not all that different from Tressel and Meyer, both of whom went on to win championships at their next stops. Indeed, Meyer was a big risk, big reward type of candidate when he came to Florida (and was clearly our #1 choice 5 years ago). Kelly has been coaching longer, had sustained success for longer, played in arguably a better (or at least equal) conference than Meyer did at Utah, and had a similar level of success."

I took that from someone else....

Pace is different and the team will be different for it. I am nervous. I will admit, its all or nothing for me. I expect greatness from BK. He has a proven tack record of success and with the athletes at ND I don't see why we cant be GREAT right away!? Time will tell and I will say that if we finish better than 500 and the next year see BCS bowl WIN... why should I not be happy? I may have lower standards than most but a 2 year standard I feel I stand strong! Agree to dis-agree I say is the only argue....

I too am excited, I have always followed the rule in atheletics as well as my professional life, once is a fluke, twice is a trend, three times is a habit. Whether, it concerns players or coaches; college or professional. I am not ready to crown BK as King, although I do like what I see and what I am hearing. I do hope he is extremely successful in whipping ND back into the Fighting Irish we all expect to see every year. He has my respect and support
and I can't wait for the season to start.

I have been following the Irish for a long time and I have to agree with everyone that this is an exciting time in ND Football. Kelly seems like a perfect fit, but only time will tell. I really hope that he is able to add the consistancy that he has been talking about to our offense without making it predictable. I think that our biggest challenge will be on the defensive side of the ball. If we can fix the issues of the past years on D, then I think BK can be successful right out of the gate. I look forward to a very exciting season.

Go Irish!

Though I cannot wait for the 2010 football season to start, I am not going to get myself caught up in the hyperbole. We seem to have collectively done that before (say five years ago). All of these posts are deja vu to the advent of the CW era.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I'm on the Team bandwagon each and every year. Crammed right in there with the current crop of players and the coach du jour.
Regardless of my assessment of the coach or the players I always don my rose colored glasses come September and hope that all will be well and that the Irish will be undefeated national champions.
Some years it's a matter of trusting the players and the coaches to live up to expectations. Other years it's a hope that the coach will "scheme" and motivate less-than-stellar players to excel and perform above their "star" ratings. All years I anticipate that individual players will step up and shine with a mix of intensity, pride, humility and satisfaction for a job well done, regardless of who is head coach.
Bottom line: We are the Irish of Notre Dame!
