Wow nice buzz kill! :) Can't you just put aside your feelings and let people be excited. We need something to get us through until next season.

not saying i dont think things will be better under the kelly regime. i am optimistic they will. just saying the presser was predictable and in and of itself did nothing for me.

Same here...Nothing special...just a typical, new coach press conf....I'll wait to see the product on the field before I jump out of my seat gushing about BK.

I liked the passion that Kelly has. Sounded like one of us, lol.
Correct me if I'm wrong..I don't recall Weis saying "This is where I want to be"..."My life long dream" when he was introduced as coach. I just feel that's what Weis lacked. Passion about the job, don't get me wrong, I know Weis loves ND. But I don't think ND was ever CW's ideal job.

Whew... a few quick thoughts

1) the media eat him up and like him. you can tell. even the cinci guys.

2) he's going to bring the passion and motivation charlie's personality lacked

3) chuck martin is going to accept a job on this staff after saturday night

4) i like how family oriented he is. notice ethan johnson sitting next to his son?

5) he told the players to get away, go home, relax, and come back ready to WORK

6) he thought the reception area in the football office was his office. it was hilarious, but i like his humility

Who in the hell is Chuck Martin?

This guy is obviously thrilled to be here. He's said the words "Notre Dame" about 412 times in half an hour. ...

Probably spent half of last night saying Notre Dame over and over like the multiplication tables so he didn't answer a question out of habit with, "I glad to be a Cincinnati!"

I haven't seen the PC yet just the highlight on ESPN.

You don't win on Saturdays with "Xs" and "Os"!

There's a new era clearly demarcated.

"we are gonna have a tough nasty football team"....... I've heard it before. I am excited that BK is our guy and not Edsall. But lets see what happens....

Grand Valley State Head Coach speculated to Kelly's new DC.

Kelly has asked him twice to be his defensive coordinator, at both Central Michigan and Cincinatti.

He has said that he would not turn the job down if offered.

Why am I indifferent about this? I am kind of numb and I don't really care right now. I'm not excited about this yet and I really didn't see anything in the PC that got me all charged up. I don't know. I think I am just tired of all the drama. Nothing against Coach Kelly, I am just not that enthusiastic about this whole thing right now. I am going to just wait until National Signing Day and then move on to Spring Practice and see where it goes.

Hopefully we see Dayne Crist slinging the rock in spring practices.

oh yes, you have heard about being "nasty" before.

“Playing with fire, playing with passion, playing like the game is all-important to you, playing as if you dread failure—that’s nasty. I believe that if you don’t have a nasty streak in you when you’re a competitor, if you don’t have that fire inside of you—if you’re pinning your chances of being successful solely on ability, without including temperament—then you’re not going to win.......I’m also looking to win football games with a bunch of tough guys."-Charlie Weis, Spring, 2005

that is why words do not mean jack sh*t to me. show me something in the results.

Someone said something about Dayne being interviewed, anyone got a link to that?

South Bend local TV.... WNDU... the Godfather of local sports... Jeff Jeffers was in the back of the room and interviewed a few people - Crist being one of them. Didn't see a link on WNDU's website.

He looked good and said his recovery was going fine as he was following his Dr.'s instructions. No time was given as for when he might start running - no limp or crutches.

Press conference had a really different feel to it. Very measured I thought. I think Kelly was very careful to not get overly ambitious with the words.

He knows all about "decided schematic advantage" biting Charlie in the ass to this day.

Things I really liked hearing was he said the goal was to compete for national championshipS. Plural.

But again it was said matter of factly and not in a way that was pie in the sky.

Another point I really liked was hitting the ground running and not a lot of dwelling on bs

I would definitely agree with this. If you have heard Brian give a motivational speech, this seemed like almost a different person - but not in a bad way. I think he is very, very excited, but I'm sure he also acknowledges the importance of this hiring (to Notre Dame and to his career/legacy). I thought he probably went in trying to be very measured, however I think we got to see more and more of the true fiery Kelly during the question and answer session. Not that this is an excuse or anything either, but he has had a long, long couple days as well. Can't wait to see this man go to work, though. He is a driven, driven man who I hope will do wonders with the good foundation which Charlie has left him with.

Just got done watching it on UND. Listened to it earlier at work on the Chicago AM station that was posted. They didn't play much of it & kept cutting in to insert their own rhetoric. I was slightly annoyed.

Anyways....

I liked what I heard but I agree talk is cheap. I agree with some of the comments that it was a typical "new coach presser" They say all the right things etc etc... However it gave a real insight into his personality. He seemed very genuine, honest & straight forward. Weis & Willingham always seemed to be forcing a persona they wanted you to buy (Weis the hardass, Willingham the professional). With Kelly it really seems like what you see is what you get. Not attempting to cover for any character flaws. I think he truly believes what he's saying rather than telling you what you want to hear.

I also saw part of the Crist interview. He basically said he bought into everything Kelly said & couldn't help to be excited. He seemed like he was ready to go right now!

Kelly wasn't might top choice but I'm happy he's here.

Everyone sitting in Mom's basement criticizing Kelly's words already, and comparing them to Coach Weis et. al. is forgetting some things: The man played linebacker at Assumption a small school in MA, he got dirty and he got wet playing for love of the game, he has been on the sidelines in Div II, and lower tier BCS schools earning his way. He built every where that he coached and he has already shown what he can do: Elevate young men to play above their potential.

He could be the deal, but trying to break him down before he sets foot on the field is weak. Have mom bring you some more cheesie poofs and relax!

What was the point of this? You reported a post with bad language earlier. Someone could report this for insulting other members. Chill out.

I must admit that I did indeed cringe when Brian talked about a "nasty" football team.

You are going to have a hard-working, intelligent...nasty football team. - Charlie Weis, 2004

Loved the PC. Having kids, I am a sucker for "Daddy's Little Girl" kinds of stories.

Hope he is everything he seems to be. On a mission for Purdue tickets. Can't wait to be there to support Notre Dame. Please don't tell me to sit down.

I don't recall a "nasty" comment. I do remember him saying he wants "tough gentlemen." ... Players who play hard through 4 quarters and who are gentlemen off the field. All this talking doesn't mean anything anyway. I'm ready for them to show it.

"Kelly takes shot at ex-head coach Weis"

I am glad I am not crazy. I heard that and thought wow that is harsh the whole Burger King, X's and O's thing. Direct shot at Charlie. I mean yeah he was over weight and probably had too much fast food, but the reason he was unsuccessful was not because he didn't work hard. He gave every fiber of his being, and in the end hired the wrong defensive coach and that was his un-doing.

I am a huge Packers fan and Mike McCarty is one of those offensive guru's, but they struggled over the past few years on defense. He went out and hired the best D-Corr. he could find and now they are 9-4 and in position to make a run at it. That's what it takes. Wrong hire on defense and he too would be up for an Offensive Coordinator job in the NFL.

I hope it was not a shot at Charlie. If it was it was unprofessional and completely off base. I am otherwise very pleased and optimistic and I am glad he is in his words, "excited for the challenge of finding the RKG's"

I highly doubt it was a shot at him. He said eating Burger King wouldn't help your 8 AM workout. We all know Charlie didn't work out.

^Now that's a shot at Weis. Sorry. Love you Charlie. lol^

The only thing I heard that might've been a shot at Weis was when he said a Head Coach better know what's going on on both sides of the ball and not just offense or defense.
