Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Notre Dame junior wide receiver Golden Tate was awarded the Biletnikoff Award, presented to the top wide receiver in the nation.
Tate, who has already announced his intentions to forgo his senior season and enter the 2010 NFL Draft, caught 93 passes for 1,496 yards and 15 touchdowns for the 6-6 Fighting Irish. Tate also had a punt return for a score as well as two rushing TDs this season.
He is the first Notre Dame player to be awarded the honor.
The other nominees were Texas' Jordan Shipley and Bowling Green's Freddie Barnes, who led the nation in catches with 138 while amassing 1,551 yards and 18 total touchdowns.
Shipley finished with 106 catches for 1,363 yards and 11 touchdowns. In addition, Colt McCoy's favorite target returned two punts for touchdowns and had a 13.0 punt-return average on 24 attempts.

There was no doubt, he was going to win it. The only reason Shipley and Jones was there because you're required to have 3 candidates. Also shoutout to Eric Berry for winning the Thorpe, he's my favorite college player after Tate.

I love Golden and the strength he has for his size is flat crazy... but MF is a an absolute freak with the ball in the air...

I said all along I think MF is the best WR on the team... Golden is a hell of a playmaker though, can not believe a team with those two and Jimmy could never finish above .500

I live in Austin and I got alot of hating texts after Tate won. Many UT fans here think that Shipley is a better WR. I was like WTF..no way!

Tate is the man. You just know he is going to go all prima donna as a classic NFL receiver with drama. But he'll produce and make the Irish very proud. Helps with recruiting too! Floyd's on deck now!

It's going to be great to watch Tate play on Sunday's wherever he goes. Unless it's the Raiders.
