One thing you have to remember is that in 1987, ND was a running team not a passing team. That's one reason Brown's receiving numbers are way down, + they didn't have a good passing QB like Jimmy Clausen. I just watched the ND vs. Michigan State game yesterday. Brown ran 2 punt returns for TD. One was for 70 yards, and one for 66 yards.

I think Brown was a better return man, When there was a hole, he hit and then he was gone. Both Tate & Brown are strong runners after a catch......They both are fast & strong........

Just goes to show how team record and team respect now stop people from getting an individual award. Tate should at the very least be invited to new york but he wont but Tebow will even after playing like garbage in his conference championship game. Im not hating Tebow or saying that maybe we couldve done bettwer or that tae shouldve won it outright but....he should be invited to New York

call me when Tate has almost 1,100 catches in the nfl and is enshrined in Canton.

Tim Brown with this years pass heavy offense would have been ridiculous.

The NFL and college arent comparable. I didnt give an opinion, I just posted the stats and facts. Personally I dont think Tate is as good as Michael Floyd and if Floyd had a full season this year his stats at least match Tates. Floyd is a much better NFL prototype.

I actually think Tim Browns yardage in that era is incredible because it was different back then. All football back then was triple option, run heavy or pro set. Now you have 5 wide sets, spreads, etc. It is pass happy.

Gordie Lockbaum, from Holy Cross, also finished 3rd in the Heisman voting, that year. That tells you how weak the year was.

Tate is up against White Jesus (Tebow), and a host of other studs.

Seems every time ND has been a challenger, individual records don't exist. Look at the team's record when indiviual records are broken. Often from losing teams.

yeah those 2 guys are really not comparable. i understand the post and what was posted i just dont think that you can judge today and 20 years ago.... jesus its been 20 years... together.

golden tate played great this year, he didnt do the amazing things on special teams that tim brown did and he didnt set himself apart from the rest of the world either. that has alot to do with team, it has alot to do with people getting behind him and pushing him towards a heisman.... lets face it anyone who was thinking about heismans was thinking about clausen at the beginning of the year and they marketed him they didnt pay attention to tate and that was his downfall. just around the time that people started talking about him the team started to lose. and there went any kind of interest in getting juice for the kid.

now if he stayed next year he would definitely be in the discussion... as for right now he didnt measure up and didnt get the hype machine behind him. thats life. hopefully he does well for himself in the nfl.

it's nice to look at but it's a different game and a different season... apples to oranges imo

...seemed that way when they were both healthy...in fact Tate had some drops etc.

But the only thing I can say about Tate is, he nutted up HUGE when the team needed him to after Floyd went down...I can't recall a guy who just willed his game to another level like that...
