According to today's Weis presser.

As long as he doesn't return to the field for the bowl game. Thoughts?

Only way he stays for a 5th year is if he continues to have injury problems his junior and senior years and needs more time to prove himself to scouts. If he puts one fully healthy year together and continues to show how good he is, no way he stays. I could see him leaving after next season when Jimmy leaves.

I would be highly surprised if he left early. He went through hell to go to Cretin-Durham, he woke up early, rode his bike a ton of miles and washed dishes to pay tuition. The kid knows why education is important.

Agreed. If he gets hurt again he might need it. Its doubtful, but always nice to have in your back pocket.

I always thought he would be gone after his junior season. BUT, assuming he is completely healthy next year and plays 12 games, that will only be 23 for his career. The NFL usually doesnt spend first round draft picks on guys who havent even played 2 season's worth of games.

Weis said doctors have told him that Floyd coming back in two months would be "optimistic," saying there's an "outside shot" he could be back before a possible bowl game.

Weis agreed, when asked, that it is unlikely Floyd would seek a medical redshirt because of his NFL aspirations.

"I would let him make the call on that one, but I don't think that would be much of a call," Weis said. "I hope to have him two more years, let alone three more years. If you give me him for two, I'd sign up for that right now."

So thats that. Weis is hoping for 2 years.

I say "wait and see." If a player or players, along with adjustments to the offensive scheme, can replace Floyd's production and he's not critical to a bowl game win – keep him out of harm's way and get him the Medical Hardship Waiver.

Would he stay for a fifth (or even a fourth) year? It's his body, his future and his decision to stay or leave.

From those comments I would suggest that Floyd is gone after next year. We've seen him play not even a full season and I already miss him...

I can't imagine him playing past next year - I look at it his way: if he displays same accomplishment next as he started this year - I'd have to say to him: If you were my kid - I'd say go!

yeah MF using a redshirt would NOT be a good thing for ND... it would only mean MF had something go horribly wrong from now to there

Agreed. This isn't even a topic. He's goner after next year, senior year AT THE LATEST. CW even said it. He's too good for college. Phork, I missed him last year after the UNC game, and I wrote it then. He's the best we'll probably ever see (along with Timmy), and it's sad that we mhaven't seen him for a full year yet. The ONLY thing that would keep him is injuries, and tobe honest even that might not keep him (didn't keep Adrian Peterson). The scouts are already salivating guys...enjoy him while you can.

Would love to see him back for the bowl game. Makes it that much more confusing for the opposing d-coordinator considering he has 2.5 games of tape of our offfense with floyd and 9.5 without him

Q. Last thing. I know with Michael Floyd out for the year it would be an option to use him in the bowl game. I mean, how realistic is it considering his talent level that he would be around for three more years after this?

COACH WEIS: I think if we're playing in a bowl game and he were healthy he'd be playing because I think that is what he'd want to do. And I'm trying to be practical here. I would give him the call on that one. I'd let him make the call on that one, but I don't think that would be much of a call.

I hope to have him two more years, let alone three years. I'd be happy if you give me him for two right now, I'd sign up for that right now.

I do not see Floyd staying 3 more years. Maybe 2 because Notre Dame does bring back alot of seniors traditionally but why not bring him back for a bowl if he is 100%. Especially ifits a BCS game
