Donovan Warren is a junior this season. You're thinking of Morgan Trent.

This is how I see it. Tate Forcier is going to make mistakes. Here's why. Think for a second:

- This will be Tate Forcier's first big game.
- He's playing against Notre Dame: a rival and the biggest name in the college football game.
- To add further pressure, Notre Dame will probably be ranked.
- He is playing in front of 110,000 fans, all of which will be expecting him to make plays.
- He is a true freshman. He will try to force things. Forcing a throw to our secondary, particularly Robert Blanton, is suicide.
- It is our secondary. Walls, Blanton, McNeil, McCarthy, Smith, and Sergio all kick ass.
- Jon Tenuta likes to blitz on just about every down. Forcier will be terrified, he'll panic, he'll make mistakes.
- If Notre Dame leaps to an early lead and Jimmy Clausen performs admirably (Jimmy makes some unbelievable throws), Forcier may feel the pressure to outperform him, leading to some mistakes.

Couldnt agree more. Most likely a lot could happen in what you mentioned. BUT its still a BIG rivalry and I dont see us blowing them out. Hell it IS possible we could lose this game too, not likely but possible. I say we win still but CLOSER than the experts think.

The 'experts' who are predicting a Michigan blowout (like me LOL) are all ND fans. The real experts, Vegas, has the line I believe at ND -3, which means they think that is the line that is proper and will get the most play from both sides. I think we'll win by double digits, but I'm hardly an expert...

Here are some of the biggest reasons we have the advantage in this one:

1. We have the experience.
2. We have an experienced offensive line going against a defensive line which returns one starter. We have a great quarterback, two great wide receivers, and a great tight end going up against a suspect secondary in which Donovan Warren is the only legitimate cover threat. Boubacar Cissoko, the probable starter for Michigan at the other corner spot, is 5'9" and will have loads of trouble covering Michael Floyd (Donovan Warren will be covering Tate, as he is the most explosive player on our team).
3. Tate Forcier, in addition to being a freshman, will be playing only his second game. Also, he's a goddamn stick.
4. Notre Dame will likely be rolling after a big win over Nevada.
5. This isn't 2007. Jimmy Clausen isn't a terrified little freshman. He's an experienced, confident (at least in interviews) junior. He doesn't have Smurfs for receivers. He doesn't have that atrocious offensive line, and John Latina isn't here, anymore.
6. The way I look at it, this looks to be a reversed version of the 2007 game. Just look at the comparisons:
- As we did in 2007, Michigan will be fielding a freshman quarterback with a terrible arm.
- As we had in 2007, Michigan has no experience at the receiver position.
- Michigan has no experience on the defensive line, except for one stud (Trevor Laws, Brandon Graham).
- Michigan has an inexperienced secondary.
- Like Michigan in 2007, Notre Dame has two big receivers (Floyd/Tate, Manningham/Arrington) going up against a suspect secondary.
- Notre Dame has an experienced offensive line, just like Michigan in 2007. However, the running back that will be running behind our offensive line is better and faster.
- Notre Dame will very likely put a beatdown on the freshman quarterback.
- Unlike the 2007 Michigan team, Notre Dame's quarterback during this game will be experienced and accurate (Ryan Mallett started that 2007 game).

Here are our disadvantages:

1. It is the Big House. A very tough place to play.
2. Michigan's other freshman quarterback, Denard Robinson, has blazing speed.
3. It is still unknown if our defense can stop the run, especially the spread option.
4. Sometimes our defense makes average players (Sam McGuffie) look like All-Americans.

The bold part is the only statement I disagree with. I think he was actually quite good. I don't think our defense made him look good, I think he just made our defense look bad.

I say we put 8 in the box to make sure brandon minor doesn't go all sam mcguffie on us.

Dare forcier to throw to our corners 1 on 1 with harrison over top roaming free

Putting 8 in the box is a given. With a freshman QB, even in the big house, we need to pressure and rattle him, which shouldn't be too difficult.

A lot of people think it is not smart to blitz against a spread offense. I don't share that opinion. I think we need to bring pressure not only because of the freshman QB, but because pressure will work against the spread as long as we don't use the same scheme evey time allowing them to adjust. We need to bring it, but in a variety of ways so they don't realize it's coming until it's too late.

Watch the Michigan vs Florida bowl from 2 years ago when they rushed the shit outta Tebow. He wasn't superman that day. Blitz many and often against a true freshamn qb running the spread option

Blitz to the outside. Forcier and company will be unable to use their speed to get to the outside. A panicked Forcier will use his weak arm to and get it past Robert Blanton.

Yeah...right.

ND '09 Schedule Got Tougher

ND '09 Schedule Got Tougher

Contrary to popular opinion ND's schedule is not a cupcake.

OSU fans won't be needling ND fans about Navy anymore.
LSU is happy to be out of Seattle. They didn't expect "a game" from a winless team.
WSU is still a weaker team but showed signs of life.
PU wasn't supposed to have much offense but they put up 52 on Toledo.
Barkley can play. As can McKnight despite comments to the contrary on this site.
Luck did pretty good for a frosh QB. He can throw and run.
Hiller threw for a lot of yards against UM's secondary but UM only allowed 7 points.

I'm happy to see Navy do so well against a top 10 team. They're a legitimate team. They've beaten 10 BCS teams over the past 5 years, and beat us obviously in 2007.

Week one tells us very little about ND's opponents this season because they all played cupcakes. With the exception of OSU, everyone played a team that they SHOULD have destroyed. And, while OSU probably thought they would destroy Navy, they were humbled even in victory. ND on the other hand, played an inferior team, but one that was at least respectible.

NV Lost to ND 35-0; Only 3rd shutout of NV in 25 years under Hall of Fame Head Coach Ault

ND looked unstoppable. Their confidence will continue to grow from here and they will be a force this year.

UM Beat WMU 31-7; Forcier 13/20 179 yds, 3 TD; UM rush 4.8 ypc

Western Michigan. Why shouldn't Michigan win by 4TDs?

MSU Beat Montana St (Div AA) 44-3; MSU 5 TD Passes, 493 Total Yds

They let Montana St. score on them?

PU Beat Toledo 52-31; PU rushes for 315 yds, 535 Total Yds, 59 yd FG

Toledo scored 31? We will rag doll Purdue this year.

UW Lost to LSU 31-23; UW outgained LSU by 148 yds, Rush 5.3 ypc; Locker 15/45, 32, 1 TD, 1 INT

Although LSU may be a little overrated this year, I still think UW took a step this year.

USC Beat SJS 56-3; Barkley 15/19 233 yds, 1 TD; McKnight 145yds, 10ypc, USC 620 yds Total

San Jose State is one of the worst teams in college every year.

BC Beat Northeastern (Div AA) 54-0; BC rushed for 236 yds; passed for 205

Northeastern? Are you f-ing kidding me?

WSU Lost to SU 39-13; 351 yds Total O; Lopina 10/15 122 yds, 1 TD

Washington State just plain sucks.

Navy Lost to OSU 31-27; Navy blew 2 point try for tie. Navy outrushed Bucks 186 to 153.

OSU won't be dissing ND about Navy for a while, now, will they?

PIT Beat Youngstown St (Div AA) 38-3; Stull 2 TD Passes; PIT rushed 6.0 ypc

Div AA blowout is just sooo unimpressive.

CON Beat Ohio 23-16; Frazer 11/24 127 yds, 1 TD, 3 INTs

Maybe Frazier wasn't that big a loss when he transferred if he threw three INTs against the likes of Ohio.

SU Beat WSU 39-13; SU Freshman QB Luck 11/23 193 yds, 1TD, 0 AND 63 yd TD run[/QUOTE]

Wow, they beat WSU.

Washington played LSU (From the big bad SEC), and they looked very impressive. Locker always had the potential to be great. This team woke me up a bit wtaching them play.

I expected LSU to demolish UW. Locker is a talent but he doesn't have a lot around him. Sark is a definite improvement over the previous guy. UW looked signifcantly improved across the board compared to last year.

Amazing what a coach can do. 0-12 to compete with one of the better SEC schools in less than a year, and with Willinghams guys.

Sounds kind of like what Charlie did...

Except the 0-12 part the year before. And being able to compete with the better teams in the country. (With the exception of USC because it hasn't been close since.)

Who was coach at Washington before Sark? I forget...whoever it was, they didn't know how to win, couldn't recruit, and pretty much ruined the program for 2-3 years.

(please don't respond with this person's name...I'm being sarcastic and will projectile vomit if I hear it).

Reading as a UM fan, I would say most of the ND advantages you all are excited about are right on ... JC and the wide outs are the biggest threat and they should be able to do some damage. UM's secondary is worthy of questioning, but the LB corps look quite good and the D line will surprise you ... although it doesn't run deep.

Overall though, they looked light year's better than last year's team in the WMU opener ... good speed and pursuit, good positioning and good tackling. Greg Robinson appears to have sorted out the malaise of last year's god awful D.

However, where I think most of you are vastly underestimating UM is in the offense ... particularly Forcier. Whoever talked about inaccuracy ... you are smoking the curtains. His HS completion average was close to 70%, he hit 10 of 20 against WMU and he's been super accurate since spring ball. Better yet, he throws really, really well on the run ... and when he runs, he's quick and deceptive. The kid appears to made out of barbed wire and has an extremely cool head and makes quick decisions.

He is a freshman and may make mistakes ... but Forcier is vastly better than you imagine and than anything you saw in the UM backfield last year.

The bigger change is that the RichRod spread and shred is taking hold ... they now have a small army of blazing fast slot receivers, backs and wide outs and they are much, much better than last year at getting the ball to them. The O-Line is DRAMATICALLY better than last year with depth and talent ... if you spotted him scoring touchdowns and making Kellen Winslow style catches, Kevin Koger is a genuine threat at TE, as is Hemmingway on the outside.

I can tell in your comments you don't fear this offense ... you should.

I think ND should still be favored in this game ... but I think you are in for a much tougher oppenent than you imagine. And playing on their home field ... I would not even be mildly surprised to see a UM win.

cheers,
rob the UM realist ....

UM secondary weakness is more at the safety position .... B

I don't think anybody here doesn't respect UM in the big house - Toledo! Hey wanna hear a Syracuse story?
In my 54 years - I've been around long enough to not take a game there lightly - and I'm sure some UM fans can say the same with memories of Reggie Ho wafting through their heads.
But, we just hate each other and have to say the ugly things we do. The only thing worse than a UM fan is......well I'm stumped there, but, I'm sure you all say things similar of us. When we play them here, I will admit I'm a little more quiet when Jamie Morris is hanging around our motorhome.
