Is life worth living when you have lost everything you love? Does anyone else feel hopeless, or just utterly sick of their pointless life. somebody tell me why I shouldn't just jump off a cliff.

This is pretty heavy stuff for Internet message board fodder, but I'd suggest seeing a therapist ASAP.

Every time you feel your life is pointless just smoke some weed and chill bro. No life is pointless no matter who you are. Dont jump off a cliff because no matter how useless you feel, you DO have a purpose. Some people just have to wait a bit longer to figure out what your purpose on this earth really is. You ever need to talk, just pm me or stop by and we can smoke on it.

Step 1. Get off the computer. Get outside even if you dont feel like it, make yourself. Sunlight has shown in studies to be able to make you feel better, and lack there of, well, makes you feel worse.

Step 2. Exercise. Yet another thing that will make you feel better and will help combat depression. Also helps distract the mind.

Step 3. If your on anti-depressants, STOP taking them. (Warning: A known side effect of anti-depressants is suicidal thoughts. Thats a big effing S/E if you ask me.) Go out and be with friends or aquaintances, as they will help you through this tough time in your life.

Step 4. Eat better. If you fuel your body with crap, your gonna feel like crap, mentally and physically.

Step 5. Notre Dame's next NC season is just around the corner. That alone is worth living to see.

Hey brother... life is worth living. You know that. I know that. Why give up the greatest gift you could ever have? Each day's a new oppertunity to start again. It sucks losing a loved one. I had a very close friend of mine take his life and Lew's comment about you going ahead and killing yourself really pissed me off.

Talk to me brother. Tell me what is wrong. If not me, tell somone: friend, familyh, priest... Life is worth living. Let me help ya get back on the path.

Private me and we can chat brother. If you need me, I'll be a cell phone call away.

I'm almost 100% positive that IrishLew didnt really mean it. He was more than likely joking but at the same time its kinda not a joking matter. Sounds like a cry for help and anyone that needs help at a time like this I'm going to reach out as far as I can to do my best.

have to second Quinntastic on this one. You need to talk about and a therapist is someone who will actually listen. i don't know how old you are but you can go to any college or university and find support for this kind of stuff.

Life is the most important gift you could have bro. Not to belittle your pain, I have been there as well, but let me put a little perspective on it for you. My mother-in-law passed away just over a year ago she was 58. She had no choice she was sick her whole life, but there is nothing she wanted more than to see here grandkids grow up. My wife is still dealing with this as her mom was her best friend.
You have a choice, there are many things that you can do. There are many people who will miss you. There is lots of pain right now dood, but all I can say is tie a knot and hold on. It will get better.

I have been there many years ago my friend. The worst thing to do is to sit around feeling sorry for yourself. A good thing to do is get out and meet new people, try new things. Even try to find people who are worst off then you are. Helping them will give you joy and your life won't seem pointless anymore.

Has anybody heard back from Echo yet? Has he sent a PM to anyone?

I havent heard anything as of yet. Maybe he just needs to be with his family. I dont know if someone close to him died or what. He may just need to be alone or something. Lets just wait and hear. In the meantime lets all just keep him in our thoughts.

Life sucks at times. I had times a few years ago where I'm not sure where I was going. I was unemployed and depressed. I stuck it out and am now happier than I've ever been. It's never as bad as it seems.

That's great man. Hang in there. Everyone has times in their life when things look bleak. I have to be honest, I have been unemployed since March and it has taken a toll on me. But, I try to always look at it like things will get better. PM me if you need to talk privately. Keep the faith!!!

I'll be praying for you. I see plenty of others will be as well.

After a crushing defeat, I believe to OSU in '95, Lou Holtz was asked by a post game interviewer, "After such a devastasting loss, how do you feel?" Holtz looked at him and replied wryly, "At least I'm on the right side of the grass!"

Words to live by.

Did he lose someone close, remember i was on a timeout for a few weeks. If there is a background i missed i apologize, if there isn't, suck it up be a man life's hard.

Impressed by this board...

Echo,
I know bro that life can be a kick in the teeth at times. I know it is hard to believe but everyone has hopeless moments at times. The trick is to find something that makes you feel like you again, whatever it is. I played ball and had a horrible injury that ended a professional chance. I honestly felt my life was over at the time, but it turned out to be a blessing, made me stronger, and forced me to become a better person. I honestly believe I would have never made it through my best friends death, and my divorce (all within two weeks mind you) without the tough life experiences, and the support of other people. "Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up!"

Lew, the reason I negged you is that this may be Echo's only outlet right now. Anyone saying "Do it" is not going to help that person regain their mental abilities. You Negging me back was not called for. Never even joke about having someone kill themselves if they are asking for help.

Plus, one of my friends did this a year ago. It is a terrible thing.

Well said Wabash, and BestBIrish47 as well. Everybody goes through it in their lives, the true test of character and will is how you bounce back. My fiance's dad lost his younger brother, his dad, his mom, and a nephew within a year. None of them expected. She flew back to SB/Michigan for 4 funerals in a year, and 7 in 2 years. I don't know anyone lives through that much sorrow, but her family has done it.

Meanwhile, all I have lost in the last probably 10-15 years in terms of death is my grandma last year, and she disowned my mom when she got divorced from my dad, so I couldn't stand her anyways. I read about some of the deaths you guys have gone through, plus my fiance's family's deaths, and I'm in awe of your strength, and wonder how I'm going to deal when death inevitably affects my life. Not to get sappy, but I'd flip if my fiance got sick or died. I'd be a mess. Mad respect for all of you who respond and get stronger under such adversity.

take solice in the fact that you are not alone. Ppl have tough times everywhere; I've felt this hopelessness you talking about.......I felt this when my friend died, when she was only 35. I had genuine feelings of hopelessness, I never knew what hopelessness was until that time. Best thing to do is talk to everyone that will listen to you about it, even repeat yourself to others, who cares what ppl think of you. I have found that just talking about it, to lots of ppl, anyone that will listen, will help you sort it out on in your head.
