Scout has him as the #3 TE. Did they always rate him so high?

No, he was ranked #10. Looks like Smith dropped 6 spots or so.

Is it just me or does Scout seem to think more highly of ND verbals so far.

Scout has WR Smith at 21 while Rivals is 60
Scout has Lombard at #1 OG while Rivals has him out of sight

Mike Frank used to lament Scout's rankings. Now he's gone and ...

Maybe there's no trend as the sample is pretty small.

ESPN grades Welch as a 79 just shy of their 150 Watchlist.

Saw Elder playing on ESPN this afternoon and Welch looked real good blocking. He was owning the DE which was getting upset and started to take cheap shots at Welch. Welch has a nice little mean streak to him. Enjoyed seeing him play today.

Glad to have you on board Welch - good luck to you and your team this season.

Per Kurelic 12/1
QB Andrew Hendrix and TE Alex Welch who have committed to ND, are showing no signs of changing their minds after the firing of Charlie Weis. Hendrix and Welch both say they want to see who ND hires to replace Weis, but the two say they remain committed to ND and highly doubt they would consider any other school.<!-- end free preview text -->

Per Steve Wiltfong at ISD on his visit this weekend, he really enjoyed getting to know Kelly and had a great visit. HE also met with Swarbrick. His commitment is firm...

Feel terrible for him. Keep your head up though Alex - hope you can get back healthy, but if you can't, you have just become another player in a long line who will truly see the benefit of choosing a university and intuition rather than a football program.

For those that were saying we were stacked at TE, and had plenty of depth..... All of sudden, Golic is in the conversation. Definitely need to take 2 this year......

Yep. As Lax said earlier, having McNamara around sure would be nice right about now.

Seriously guys, there are bigger needs than a 2nd TE in this class. Its called balance at the positions, injuries hurt depth for a year, getting a 2nd TE would create bigger holes at other positions. If Golson or Hendrix go down this year, should we get another QB to go along with Zaire?

Besides, if we get a CAT player in this class, Mattingly could easily be shifted over to TE.
