From A few more details about the prospect of a 10-year series with Notre Dame - Orange Football Blog on syracuse.com

Syracuse, NY -- A few more details emerged this morning about what looks like an impending 10-game contract with Syracuse to play Notre Dame in football. The deal in discussion means that Syracuse will play five games in South Bend and move its five "home" games to Giants Stadium in the Meadowland

Looks like the Orange have snapped up the deal initially offered to Rutgers. While the Scarlet Knights refused to move their home games to an off-campus site, Syracuse has agreed to play five away games in South Bend in addition to five home games at Giants Stadium. While far from finalized, the series could begin as soon as 2010.

Not a big fan of this deal, but I can see why both teams would go for this. I have always wanted to go to the Meadowlands and this is the best way to go IMO.

What's so bad about 10 years of wins against the Big East... we'll have many chances for
marquee wins against high profile programs in this ten year period.

Ya I have no problem with this. Our schedule will be tough enough and barring any unforseen events, we will always be a big favorite in all these games. Doesn't look like a cupcake game either, like the games against Army, Air Force, Navy, Duke, etc. I'm more worried about the two game series against Utah honestly. Kind of a lose-lose situation for us there.

This is weak sauce. Why should we get to play home games and then force Syracuse to play at a neutral site (cough, cough) that is 250 miles from their campus? That will essentially be another home crowd for us. It makes us look bad for not playing Rutgers away.

Weak.

Obviously, there are always financial considerations.....but, the big advantage for us lies in recruiting. The Medowlands provides a great venue for potential recruits to see ND play.

You mean like how Arizona State "forced" ND to play in Tempe, and then in Dallas? ND is willing to play home games at neutral sites, why shouldn't other teams be?

You mean MIT, not UMass, right? No sense in overloading the schedule with powerhouses. ;)

Are you for real?

A. No one forces ND to do anything. We probably wanted the deal so we could extend recruiting to the Dallas area.

B. Get a map out. The Meadowlands is about 20 miles from Rutgers stadium. It is a 20 minute drive up the turnpike. Not agreeing to play at the Rutgers home stadium is a chickencrap move.

C. A game against Rutgers with all their momentum and recruiting classes would have been a great rivalry over the next 10 years and a good test for our team. Perhaps it would have helped us win some bowl games. Syracuse is a joke. It doesn't help anything but our coffers which are already quite full.

Rutgers recruiting class sucks minus Tom Savage. They will go back to the bottom of the barrel to 7-5 at best starting this year

That's not fair to say it sucks. they have 11 3-stars after Savage. it won't be a top 10 class, but it doesn't "suck". losing those two 4-stars hurt, but losing them didn't ruin the class.

They have had three top 50 classes in a row. That is a MIRACLE at Rutgers with their past horribleness. As long as Schiano is there, they are a much better matchup than Syracuse.

By the way, the have won their last 2 bowl games and have made 3 in a row in a pretty good conference.

I really consider beating ball state an acomplishment.

Just a warning, I hate Rutgers the most second to a tie between USC and Florida. Just a warning :)'

If we had to play any Big East team, make it Louisville. They usually produce winners, but it shouldnt be too tough of a game, or West Va.

A. Notice the " " around forced, in my post? Of course Arizona State didn't force ND to play in Dallas. Neither did ND force Rutgers to play at the Meadowlands. They had a choice, they chose not to. That's really the end of the story, except that a small but vocal group of malcontents and ND haters won't let it die.

B. If it is so close, then what is the issue with playing there? Don't tell me revenue. As the home team, Rutgers would stood to have made a killing by collecting the larger share of the gate, at a sold out Meadowlands.

C. Rutgers was a joke, until just a few years ago. Who is to say that Syracuse (who does have some football tradition) won't turn out to be just as good a test and rivalry for the Irish?

I personally think this is a good deal for both schools... just as Rutgers WOULD have been...

no issue... SU is a fine school

The ND - ASU game was originally supposed to be ND vs. Baylor, but the Big 12 wouldn't allow ND the rights to a home game for NBC to air the game. The ASU game couldn't be played in Arizona because the PAC 10 has a deal with ABC, so the Dallas game with Asu is a "home" game for ND. NBC gets the rights to air the game and both teams make out because it will help both of them in recruiting.

HUH??? What does the PAC-10's deal with ABC have to do with it? ND already plays USC and Stanford, every year. I mean, was there ever any discussion about ND playing a home game at ASU?

The neutral site game cannot be played in any state that the PAC 10 has a team in. ABC owns the right to televise any PAC 10 game within it's jurisdiction. My point was that ND wants the game to be televised on NBC.

I'm sure there weren't any discussions about a "Home" game at ASU. But I don't believe there were any discussions about a game in Tempe at all.

Here's something to chew on, at the open practice for fans, Coach Weis announced that Syracuse had turned in the remainder of their allotment of tickets to this year's game and gave these tickets away to all the fans in attendance. Sounds like there might have been quite a few tickets the Orange were unable to sell, though I doubt any of you will find that surprising.
