Gotcha. Those are going to be tough to give blanket advice on because by their nature it depends on the individual game and how the dev set it up. You might just need to do what you're already doing and try to find a trustworthy guide. I had an easy time with the Majora's Mask recomp but the bloodborne demake made me want to pull my hair out.
