I like Segun every bit as much as Parks but Segun is viewed as a long shot. Both are better prospects than Alexander.

Loy “felt good” for Sesay, Roman, Jones Jr, Parks, Simien, and Henderson. He’s likely gonna go 3/6, and the 3 he will get correct were essentially obvious layups.

This is what the final stages of recruiting are like in the NIL era. Teams save their best offers for the very end and wait to see what they have to come over the top with. Especially the Oregon, Texas A&M, Texas Tech types that aren't afraid to spend.

Fans really have to be ready for these "back and forth" movements down the stretch.

This month is still going to be a success because of the additions of Sesay, (hopefully) JJJ, and (hopefully) Roman. But damn they left a lot on the table.

To be fair, ND won every single one of these last year, and given the confidence signaled over the weekend, likely expected to do it again. I don’t think the sky is falling like the bedwetter/trolls will signal, but it’s fair to say this missed here more than you would like.

We just went through two off-seasons where the vast majority of stars that emerged for the Irish stayed with the Irish or went pro. The continuity of NDs roster is incredibly envious across the sport. Culture and money make that happen. Throwing money, perhaps more money than other productive players on the roster make, defeats both. I am all for being aggressive. But championships are made with continuous roster improvement and retention.

What is "some cash"? $100,000, $500,000, $100,000,000? None of have any clue what the Oregon offer is vs the ND offer and how much ND might have to blow their internal budget to get it done.

Also, I've always had the feeling that Parks likes Oregon more than ND and that his connection to ND is more his family and the people that surround him. IF that's true and he likes the Ducks more, and they have made the bigger offer, that'll be hard to overcome.

The funny, frustrating thing is Notre Dame had a bunch of money saved up because of losing out on other guys. Is that money going back into the rainy day account? It’s frustrating they’re not willing to spend on a top linebacker and a DT.

Yes, but it's also about who you're up against down the stretch. ND had more to offer as a total package than about 98% of teams in college football. But when it comes down to head-to-head battles against the likes of Ohio State, Oregon, Texas A&M, Texas and Miami, you're going to take some L's as well. Those programs have had similar (or better) success to Notre Dame recently and they are absolutely willing to spend on a fortune on their top targets. Going .700+ down the stretch for these types of guys, over that competition, simply isn't going to happen every year.

I'm guessing ND isn't panicking as much as us. For DT future we have Elijah Golden, Tiki Hola, David Folo, and Chris Burgess. I don't really expect Sean S or Dixon to factor in other than depth if we're serious about winning titles.

And I'm guessing since they haven't expanded LB board they're OK trying to retain KVA and Ausberry, and get a portal DT if needed.

This is more of a 2028 concern which is valid than 2027 roster.

IMO you guys are reacting too much over a visit that hasn’t happened yet. Of course Singer is less confident, he thought he was going to shut it down. ND is still gonna push here.

We all want the instant post visit gratification of a commit, and while that’s much more prominent these days, it’s not always the case. Let it play out

That's not at all how the money works. Like any responsible program ND has an internal budget and that budget is divided between the position groups based on the staff's opinion of the roster needs. They have a "maximum" slotted to spend at each position group. Of course, money is a fungible and at times they're willing to take a little bit from one group to land a special talent at another position, but they're simply not going to go crazy on a single prospect unless he's an absolute game changer.

My guess is that many fans assign a higher monetary value to Parks than the staff does. Personally, I think he's a really good player, but I don't see a Jordan Davis, Ndamukong Suh, Dexter Lawrence level game wrecking NG that is worth getting into a potential 7 figure bidding war with Oregon over.

My annoyance with the Parks recruitment is less about the level of prospect (I think he is very good and could be a disrupting NT) it is more to do with the time and effort they put into him with seemingly no joy. Maybe he hops onboard even after his Oregon visit but color me skeptical. I am still of the opinion that Oregon has convinced him he will play 3T there (he will not)

Also very important for people to keep in mind that the Transfer Portal is now an extension of recruiting. If needs fail to be addressed in high school recruiting because they couldn't be fullfilled at the pricepoint ND allocated to filling them, they can be re-addressed via the Portal. Yes, the Portal tends to be more expensive, but not in every instance.

Would you personally blow your budget and take money away from another position to land a Parks level NG who may not even really want to go to ND, when your functional depth chart at NG / DT going into 2027 is...

Francis Brewu (1 year remaining)
Armel Mukam (1 year remaining)
**Elijah Hughes (1 year remaining)**
Tionne Gray (multiple years remaining)
Chris Burgess (multiple years remaining)
Cole Mullins (multiple years remaining)
Tiki Hola (multiple years remaining)

** Hughes would have another year if 5-for-5 passes.

Even if 1-2 of those guys transfer out, you still have bodies you like that you can't even get on the field because of the depth. If Parks wants to much money, or likes Oregon more, move on and try to close on Tyler or Segun Alexander. I certainly wouldn't lose sleep over it though.
