I also think it’s very possible we retain Burton because he just won’t get as much elsewhere after his injuries.

Haralson also wouldn’t have come here if we were paying him a fraction of the other big programs. I’m not buying that money is the big issue.
That’s Noie doing his usual “it’s not the coach” crap. It’s pretty easy to rev up the fan base against the administration but I’m not buying a non starter getting a million dollars.

It would surprise me if they left Holtman come back. He's a really good guy and a good basketball coach, but rehiring a guy who left you previously might be a tough pill to swallow.
Holtman did great at Butler which is why OSU went after him. When talks started, I thought it was a mistake for him to leave. He was a perfect fit for Butler, but you couldn’t blame him for going to the B1G and a significant pay increase.

I don’t think he will be Butler’s next coach, but I would expect him to get hired before Shrews.

What happens with Burton next year?
Undecided but the trending rumor is two more are leaving with one likely Haralson. Other is a "rotational" player who is being offered 1 million and we're nowhere close. I don't think there's any universe in which Burton is a rotational player so guessing its either Certa or Koehler.

Shrews is apparently staying. If we "only" lose four guys this is a "win" for him. Everyone who stays gets more money since Haralson was making a bundle.

Any chance Braeden Shrewsberry is transferring? To Butler? LOL

So he’ll be back to square one when he arrived at ND. Except this time w/o the hope & promise

That's 3 - I would call them all transfers that make sense even from a functional team. Frost seemed to be a dead-eye shooter - to my eye he was unplayable on defense - couldn't earn minutes on that team.

Still have no idea how they keep the key 4 in Burton, Koehler, Haralson, Certa. Being that ND was not a functional team and is cheap.

What would you take over/under 1.5 stays on those 4?

Under. Put the o/u at .5 and I’m still saying under.

Frost was the player I suspected to be in Noie’s tweet from last night.

As of right now, I’m taking the under on 1.5. Burton stays. That’s the only non-Shrews I expect to stay.

I find the timing of Noie’s tweet last night and the timeline of Butler picking a coach suspicious to say the least. Almost like Shrews found out he wasn’t getting it and immediately went into damage control mode.

Nored was on campus and got the job last night. Shrewberry either turned it down or didn’t get offered it, but he was definitely involved. They also wanted Holtmann first, as well as Steele.

Sounds like Burton, haralson, and certa are going to enter the portal based on this article. Jesus Christ this sucks

Coach keeps his job.
We lose the three players that would have any real value to the team next year.

It’s amazing how quickly things have changed since those fun Missouri and TCU wins only like ten weeks ago.
Two tournament teams!

What a complete disaster.

In a world where they kept the early season momentum this year and stayed healthy - went NIT. The players would be even more coveted and they’d be gone anyways.

If you can’t slow build and pay to retain - or portal spend. What do you do?

I mean even if Shrewsberry was a coaching genius ; he would’ve damaged his career by accepting this job, who would next? Grim

One thing that I really don't get is if Burton, Certa, and Haralson are leaving to get more money why would Frost leave for more playing time? There will be plenty if those three leave. And he must know what the other guys are up to.
Another thing-if you can't pay all three of those guys a million bucks can't you pay one (or maybe even two) that much?
Something doesn't smell right about this whole mess. Noie always defends the coaches but maybe these guys just don't want to play for him. Which begs the next question, why is he still have the job.

I’m sorry this is unacceptable. How are we meant to believe that we can’t balance both sports being remotely competitive

Why in Hell would ND pay a rotational player a million dollars. For that matter why would any school. That is not remotely sustainable.

So Notre Dame spent most of their NIL on a short, injury prone PG and an 18 year old that can’t shoot. Pat Garrity sucks.

Would I rather take an elite DL in the portal or a 6th man for the basketball program that I don’t care nearly as much about? The big donors are doing the same calculus I’m sure.
Exactly. I love that we are in a position where we are in such a good place with the football program that we are criticizing how to spend other people's money in other programs lol. I love NDMBB. Those Brey years a decade ago were electric. However...

I wouldn't trade anything for where the football team is now, though. All in for football > spreading the wealth in MBB and elsewhere.

People who (probably) don't donate asking the questions "WhY cAnT wE hAvE bOtH?!" Idk man but I don't work for Pete and I also know for damn sure that I'm not capable of donating enough to make a difference, either. But I'm damn happy with how things are going with ND Football. That's most important.

I'm a firm believe NDMBB will bounce back eventually. Maybe not until the next hire. But it is what it is at this point.
