$2B doesn't seem like a lot for a stadium these days. Curious to see what the bathrooms and escalators look like. The Bears still need to pay for the Soldier Field renovations, too. It also doesn't seem like it will be big enough to host a Super Bowl.

A lot of water carrying and political posturing going on here. The Bears are likely going to be in Arlington Heights, IL. A compromise is going to be met to get that stadium built. The Bears already bought the land.

It's going to play out. The Bears are jerking everybody around and the media is repeating the franchise's talking points.
Fairly certain I read that the Bears have paid off their portion, it's the City that owes money on Soldier Field. The Bears have been trying to get some sort of agreement going for a while meanwhile the state has only just started talking. This strikes me as pure posturing and negotiating just as you said. And everyone needs to play their part

Interesting take.

The proposed stadium site in Illinois is in the suburbs, land the Bears ownership purchased before considering infrastructure, taxes, etc. and the franchise is owned by the McCaskey family, not the City of Chicago.
My statement stands, Chicago is a horribly run city.

You are correct. The Bears have paid off their share of the 2003 renovations.

Soldier Field is owned by the Chicago Park District. The debt is tied to the state and the ISFA, with taxpayers paying off the liability.

The Bears' lease runs through 2033. They can leave early. And you don't pay $197M for land only to move to Indiana.

This is all about the infrastructure around Arlington Heights and getting money for that. Better roads, utilities, etc. around where that stadium would be. This is all political posturing at this point.

If they leave, let them. Indiana tax payers can enjoy a Chicago team and being fleeced for it. The Bears get stuck with a big piece of land in Arlington Heights they already own.

Whatever happens, I do not like Kevin Warren. At all. Dude can't wait to be standing in the background of the locker room speech videos after wins with his stupid orange tie.

The city has nothing to do with the negotiations. The Bears, the state of Illinois and state of Indiana are the players here right now.

Your statement is not relevant to the topic at hand. Yes, yes. Chicago bad. Head to the political forum.

Okay yeah, thanks for clearing this up. Honestly I expect Kevin Warren to bounce a few years after getting the stadium deal done.

I would like a football guy to be in his role overseeing the GM. Kevin Warren was brought in for this reason more than any other. The Bears really didn't think this all through when it came to the infrastructure, property taxes, etc. They snapped up the Arlington Park land and are doing the due diligence part now, which is ass backwards and not totally surprising. They're also using the media to parrot their talking points to the public and make the state out to be the bad guys here. Illinois and Indiana tax payers do not need to be making concessions to billionaire NFL owners, but that's how this is going to play out.

I hope he's gone soon enough, TBH. He's not a football guy.

Good god, way to pick the shitties place possible to propose a stadium. At least it would be enclosed so you wouldn't have to smell the refinery all game.

This is all bullshit, and it's supposed to be, because the people involved know how stupid the public are. Don't forget, it's the same public that put all of these people in Illinois and Indiana into office.

AH deal was Bears pay construction costs, state funds infrastructure, and the only sticking point was Bears want a prop tax cap that they refuse to give them, right? And now, it's gotten worse as state reps won't even discuss the matter?

If prop tax cap is the only sticking point, I tend to agree - they give them the tax cap and they build in AH. WHat do I know though.

I think in the end you are right and that's what is going to happen. It's going to get worked out. IL and the Bears reach some kind of compromise and they start building in Arlington Heights.

People are panicking like they're going to Indiana and it's a done deal. They are not and it isn't.

Soldier Field, Indiana, Iowa not likely. Maybe a floating barge on the middle of Lake Michigan. Otherwise, Arlington Heights.

Yep. For the loyalty this fanbase has shown over the last 40 years of garbage on field product to then be given the shaft like this...

On the other hand, nothing would put the bow on top of the McCaskey years of ownership incompetence quite like the chain of events that is unfolding: 1. doing a market study showing that your season ticket base is in the north, west, and northwest; 2. obtaining land in that area to build a stadium and entertainment complex to exploit that market; and then 3. building southeast of your current location instead.

At least the fans will be able to experience all that Northwest Indiana and the Chicago Southland have to offer, like a stop at Pope Leo's boyhood home to pray for a win and for the 80-90-94-294 bottleneck to not be a complete nightmare on the way home.

Ted Phillips screwed this up from day 1.

Yeah, not sure why this is even a story. I get trying to leverage, but I think it’s stupid for the Indiana legislature to waste any time on this. The first time Indiana was mentioned I laughed.

They seem to think it’s happening. I read one article mentioning how the Hammond mayor had tears in his eyes when it passed.

This is solid for Indiana. Maybe they can make that area worth visiting now.

That's an even bigger stretch. These are our elected officials falling for this. You would think there's at least one sports fan among them that can point to past history where owners of professional teams have used the same strategy to get what they want.

That's exactly why that dude is crying. The dude is letting his emotions rule. He sees what a significant impact this could have to the area, but he's not thinking with the logical part of his brain.

I think if you need to move your team's stadium somewhere you can get tax breaks, maybe you shouldn't have a team in the first place? Probably time to sell. You can't afford owning a North American sports franchise.

Especially when you paid $197M for land to build a stadium 30 minutes from your HQ but forgot to speak to the local municipalities before hand about tax implications. Wait, sorry, that makes you incompetent.

Also, one Super Bowl ever and it was 40 years ago. Sell the team.

Is Arlington Heights seen as a good location to the Bears Fans? As only a tourist to Chicago - Soldier Field seems like it's in a perfect spot.
